I'm going in April 2006 with my husband and daughter but I really want to know how it feels to go solo....I get lonely quick....a definite people person. For those who go solo, how do you do it?

My DD now 22...was on the College Program, and DH couldn't get lots of time off from work, so I would go down by myself to visit....stayed in Disney Hotels (Value) and also off-site. Did get alittle lonely, but also enjoyed the quite times...eating what I felt like eating and when I wanted to, sitting by the pool and swimming without having to worry about someone else and what they wanted to do or not do. I enjoy being by myself sometimes, and also enjoy being in the company of friends and family. Daughter recently graduated college with a degree in elem. ed and moved down to Orlando, where she is currently looking for teaching positions, while employed by dis full time. Planning to go down in Jan with DH, DMIL & DSIL, DH driving since DMIL won't fly, so I'm flying out the day they start the drive and staying in WDW by myself for a day and a half. Will see DD when she gets off from work, but during the day I go to the parks, restaurants and shops by myself. When the rest of the family gets down their we'll all be together doing things together. on the other hand my DH would never go down there by himself. I guess everyone is different.

not a problem.

I like being alone.

you can do what you want when you want it. no one to complaint we are doing this again....I want to do this instead.

and the one I hate the most 'I am tired when are we leaving' - it never occurs to them to leave without me.

going solo you can have a great time!!!

How do I do it? Just pack my bags and go! :goodvibes I enjoy my own company, so loneliness does not enter the picture. :earsgirl:

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. I NEVER get lonely in the parks, especially Magic Kingdom. Only time it gets a tad lonely is at DTD having dinner. But, I still enjoy it. When I go solo, I stay at a Value Resort where there's tons of people around, and the bars outside are ery inviting. Every night of my solo trip in September, I would go to the bar at night and talk to all different people.

Last December I spent a few days there by myself and loved it. It was so much fun. I loved sitting and people watching. I loved doing things at my own pace. Now I can't wait to go back.

I went to Disney 3 months ago solo and i am planning a September 2006 trip to! :cool1:

I did it for 4 days this Sept. I had a blast. Maybe because I wasn't there too long. I'm also part of a big family, so most of my life I've been surrounded by people, so I love my alone time now! I've gone along with my brother & his family & my sister & her family, but I didn't want to keep butting into their family time, so if I wanted to go to WDW, I had to try going solo--and I loved it!

My last trip I wasn't technically solo but the friends I went with just didn't get it and would always leave the parks very early. Needless to say I spent a lot of time on my own and absolutely loved it. Actually, I almost prefer it. I can't wait for my first true solo trip. That is of course providing I don't find someone special to share it with.

I have to agree with all of you. While it's fun to have someone to sit and have a meal with and talk to, it's so much more fun to not have the "I don't want to go on Soarin' a third time" talk, but be able to do what I want, when I want, however many times I want. I went solo for the first time in August 2004 and am doing another solo trip, staying at the POP, in February 2006.

When will you be there? I'll be there the 10th to the 19th.

Although I love going to WDW with family, I LOVE going solo as well. I'm a pretty independent person anyway, so doing Disney World solo is no big deal. I never leave the property, so I don't rent a car. Once I'm on Disney property, it's either a boat, bus or monorail trip to where ever I want to go. It may sound selfish, but I get to go where I want, when I want. Dine where & when I want. Go on an attraction 10 times or skip some all together when I want. I love doing early entry into the parks, not necessarily for the attractions, but to really take in all the sights and sounds the parks have to offer. I love to read, so I always have a book in my backpack. Out it comes when I am waiting for a parade or show to start or when I'm dining. I find that the CM's at the various restaurants I've dined at have been very nice and respectful of my dining alone and have received excellent service most of the time. The characters are great too! When I went in 2003, I went around and tried to get my picture taken with as many characters as I could. No problem waiting in line with a bunch of kids. Just nicely asked the CM that's with a character if they could please take the picture and the CM & character were great! I've seen all of the parades, so I skip those, except SpectroMagic. Another plus at going solo, is the singles line on some of the attractions. I LOVE Test Track and went on like 5 times in a row. The CM's got a kick out of it! I love strolling down Main Street, looking up at the windows, listening to the soft music playing in the background. I take a ton of pictures everytime I go. Helps remind me of the great trip I had and makes me look forward to the next one. When I was waiting for Spectro to start in 2003, a nice family sat next to me and we had a great conversation. So you can still strike up conversations with either other guests or cast members if you like. I guess I just like the freedom of going solo.

I just got back yesterday after my first solo trip and it was AWESOME! I am a single person who lives alone and I do many things on my own. But I felt slightly lonely a few times. Like staying in my hotel the night before my flight to Orlando, I felt a little sad because there was no one to talk to about the trip/plans/excitement. I also had a WAVE of emotions when I first walked down Main St. in MK. I always get a little teary when I first see the Castle, but I there were actual tears running down my face - both from loneliness and sheer happiness (yeah, it was weird). So I bought a balloon and called my parents when standing on the corner opposite Casey's. Yes, I'm 32 and a responsible adult, but I knew that my parents were a little weirded that I wanted to take this vacation alone, so I wanted to reassure them (and myself, I guess).
But, for the most part ... like 99.9%, I loved being solo. I did what I wanted (TOT about 4 times, Splash Mnt. about 5 times and Jellyrolls 3 times!) and I loved every minute of that.
I say, if you feel comfortable in your skin, DO IT! It can be a blast!

I just returned from my eighth solo trip, so I guess that means I really like it! As far as being lonely, I was an only child, used to being alone. CMs are always especially nice to me, and often I find a CM who wants to know about being solo at WDW. On this last trip, my server at the Sci-Fi (which I recommend for solo dining, BTW) was very interested in my dining solo. She admitted that she didn't think she could be as comfortable as I seemed solo! There's only one little thing I have to do to avoid loneliness without DH-I have a "solo resort". I have a feeling I might feel lonely if I stayed at the same resort I stay at all the time with him. He's never stayed where I stay solo, it's just MY resort. It's probably just a strange little quirk I have. I love to people watch-last week I sat on a bench for hours, when it was about 50 degrees, and I watched to see how many people came by in shorts and tee-shirts. Like others, I love to sit and check out shoes-someone admitted they like to see how many people are wearing high heels. Solo trips are so fun and relaxing.

You know everyone, its nice to know that in February when I go next (solo), there are alot of people in the park just like me that enjoy doing it alone too and that its just fine. You dont have to feel like an outcast while surrounded by families, inline at a ride or at a restaurant. I almost feel sorry for everyone else.

I Went at the start of november by myself for a week, my first trip there and it was amazing it was the best part of my 5 week USA trip.

The place is so magical and i never felt lonley or sad i just didwhat i wanted when i wanted which was so great!!!

id go back on my own in a heart beat.

It was so worth the 25 hours in transit there :)

Ditto on goin' solo.
I went September 2005 and had a blast going solo. Spent a week on my on schedule and had fun!! The last time I went was back in 1989 with my family, there was alot of new stuff. You have alot better chances of getting last minute dining on stuff you'd normally need ADR's for (although its still a good idea I managed to squeeze into the Nordway Pavillion castle for an early dinner but didn't get into the Sci-Fi Diner). I started out saying I wouldn't go all "Disney" just going to play golf & chill, but by the second day I was in the thick of it.
Anyone who has the opportunity to do it I would highly reccomend it.

I went on my first solo trip two years ago and loved it! I have travelled alone in the past and have never had a problem. I enjoy the solitude of being in a hotel room by myself and there are always plenty of people to speak with in the parks and restaurants when I want company.

The thing I loved best about a solo trip was the ability to just sit on a bench and take everything in. Whenever I go with someone else, it is always commando-style. This allowed me to enjoy the park in a different way.

Thanks for all the info, I'm looking to go for my first solo trip, after loosing my co-Disney Nut, best friend and Mother, we have gone to WDW and DCL together every trip listed below. She passway last Sept. at the airport while we waited for our flight to Orlando to do WDW/DCL/WDW.
I was not sure I could go back solo and have fun, but after reading all your post, sounds like I can.

Thanks
John :thanks: :disrocks: :figment:
