Who wears running shoes and socks in August?

I would say at least 70% of the people at Disney wear sneakers and socks at any time of the year.I know sandals, flip flops and crocs are popular but you walk at least 7-10 miles a day at Disney,I know I'm more comfortable in sneakers than I would be in sandals walking that much!!!

I absolutely have to have the support provided by sneakers with orthotics in them. However, if rain is on the horizon, I take my Tevas along with me. I can get by with them for a few hours without pain.

My whole family does--or sometimes DH and I wear our Merrill hiking shoes which are cool and comfortable too. As others have posted, running shoes with good socks are a great way to avoid blisters. I also like that my toes are protected from the masses of people and strollers in the parks.

Now at home, I never wear running shoes except when I'm running, and I never wear socks from about March until October, but WDW is its own animal demanding special attention!

Do I hear that it's Cool Max socks? Are they available at most stores?
Thanks!!!

That's DH, all the way. The only place I've ever seen him wear sandals is poolside - otherwise it's runing shoes with socks. He has to wear orthotics, so good support and actual shoes are a must. In fact, he thinks sandals are uncomfortable and can't understand why anyone would wear shoes without socks. (of course, I spend my summer in drugstore flipflops....)

To each his own!

This describes me perfectly. There are some things you can do to wear running shoes and be comfortable:
1. only synthetic fiber socks!!!! no exceptions to this rule
2. you can get ventilated running shoes- reebok ventilators are ones i use
3. you can get HYPERCARE prescribed by a dermatologist. It is an antiperspirant for the feet and hands. You apply it every night before bed for 2 weeks before you leave on vacation. Your feet will not sweat for about a month and VOILA- NO MOISTURE, NO BLISTERS!

Are you sure you aren't living in Oklahoma instead of Chicago? :rotfl2:
I never set a foot in my running shoes from March to mid October but when visiting the World you better believe I do.
As for the wet shoes and socks......I bring my crocs....They will do for a couple of hours till the mid day showers are over. To us it is worth the hassle of renting a locker to keep them in even if it isn't going to rain so we can change into them for the evening hours.
Personal preference only.

Tell ya what ... all that airing out your tootsies wearing sandals stuff sounds good. Right up to the point where one of those double rental strollers takes a detour over your foot.

I always wear cross trainers and never regret it.
