A teacher sending out a letter to their new students?

DS just received a post card from the new principal of his new school(he starts kindergarten in 2 weeks). It mentions about looking forward to starting school and that DS should be an expert because he attended the "Get Ready" program in June. Also tells DS to invite his parents to a coffee hour on the first day of school at 8:15. I thought that was really nice that this guy took the time to write to the students.

the school my nephew goes to (private) the teachers all make a home visit before the school year starts and gives them their list of needed supplies and tells them a little about the up coming year

We just got a letter from DS's K teacher. Very nice stuff.

Also, had we decided to go with the town Public K, his teacher would have come to our house for a visit. I think that's kind of cool.

My DS got a postcard from his new teacher and a welcome packet with some neat things in it. DD who is going into 2nd grade this year missed getting a letter..poor thing!

Guess I'll have to send her one!

when my kids were in elementary school, every teacher wrote a note to them every mid August or so , to let them know how exiting class was going to be , how much she/he was looking forward to having them in her/his class, and some of the neat stuff they were going to do. They always looked forward to the letters from their "new" teachers. when they were going to start middle school (6th grade) the outgoing 6th grade students, wrote each kid (names were picked out of a hat) and told them all about the middle school and enclosed a map, and tips for getting around. It was one of their last writing assignments of the year and I think they enjoyed it as much as the incoming students. It alleviated alot of stress of going to a new school, and since we have 7 elementary schools that merge in 6th grade, it gave them a chance to meet other kids from the other side of the township. My dd really liked that part of her writing class when it was her turn, and looks forward this year to finding her "school pal" that she wrote to last year.

When I taught and where my kids go now, class lists don't come out until 3 days before school. Unless the teacher is looping (keeping the same class another year) the teachers don't know until then either. My son whose teacher is looping did get a postcard in the middle of the summer.

Last year my DS got a postcard before school started from his soon-to-be teacher. I thought it was a really nice gesture. The same teacher left the school system because of a move to OK and the other day she sent my DS a letter and 2 pics from his class last year. :) :) :)
