I can not remember who it was, but someone was cruising to SE Alaska in June... I was wondering if you had gone and if you've enjoyed our beautiful weather...??

Me!!

Got back Sunday. It was wonderful.
We came home to the same nice weather....much better than when we left ::yes::

Ohhh you missed out all time high of 90 which I believe was Saturday or Sunday. :D I remember thinking "I hope that gal has nice weather when she's here" because at the time we had kind of icky weather.

We're about to hit an all time high of high temps for X amount of days in a row.... ;) Suppose to be in the upper 70's to mid 80's through the weekend which is unheard of in SE Alaska.

I think it was about 75 or so when we hit Juneau.....that was last Wed.
It did get into the 80s by the end of the week.
We're getting the 80s here too.....pretty unusual for us too....but not as much so as for you ;)

We didn't need our coats or umbrellas at all. It was very nice.
Some people (especailly on the buses) were complaining of it being too hot....and these were east coast people :rotfl:

I loved that part of Alaska. Beautiful! Hope to cruise a different route in a few years.

You should have arranged a meet :teeth:

I said to wave to me when you were in town LOL

A meet would have been cool. In the past I've met ppl off the msgs boards and taking them on private tours (places you might not see being on the buses). Out the road, a different access point to the mendenhall glacier, to the salmon farm, out north douglas :D

I laugh at the tourist wearing parkas or heavy coats... Never fails, you always see them downtown. It slays me.

I didn't wear a coat :) But then living in WA, we're used to cooler too.

I had the whole morning free too. DH went on a float plane tour and I just roamed the streets.....well, and shopped ;)

You didn't get out of downtown?? You poor thing.
Local's do not even go downtown LOL. Seriously. I've been to the Thane Ore House a few times, but we haven't driven through town once in probably a year.

Man had I known I would have been happy to pick you up and take you out and about.

I did get out of town.
I roamed town while DH was on the plane.
We later took another tour.......town, the salmon hatchery and the glacier....drove all around. Including the college there ;)

I read you are moving. Where to?

Hey Rachel!

What can you tell me about Juneau?

My husband and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary on the Princess Sapphire roundtrip from Seattle, stopping in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Victoria. We're leaving our DDs with my parents in Ocala, FL (and then taking them to WDW when we return :teeth: ). This is our first vacation without them.

We have booked a fishing trip in Ketchikan, a helicopter glacier trek in Juneau and a wilderness safari in Skagway all through the cruise ship tours. Any suggestions for other things we should do or "out of the way places" that are not to be missed?

Thanks for your help. I can't wait !!!!

We saw the Sapphire Princess docked by us in Juneau (we were on the Ms Amsterdam).
Pretty ship.
You will have a great time!!
It was unbelievable.

Oh good Merri! I thought maybe you got stuck down town. That would truly stink :)

Hi Mary!

When is your cruise??

Make sure you see the glacier. (Of course!) See if anyone drives out the road... especially the Shrine of Saint Therese. It is simply... breathtaking. North Douglas and Sandy Beach are nice (you can see Sandy Beach as you come in to dock... it would be on the left side of the ship).
If you can make it to the Thane Ore House (go for LUNCH, dinner, they jack the prices up).... GO!! They THE best seafood and at a fairly decent price for seafood. They give a lot and it's filling!!

Are you going to Skagway as well?
If you go to Dyea... the Trail of '98. My aunt and uncle own the beautiful bed and breakfast (Chilkoot Trail Outpost) about 1/4 of a mile from the trail head. Say hi for me (Fred and Kathy Hosford are their names). My parents own a house out there (past the bridge).

some photos... make sure to click the achieves

Rachel,

Your pictures are breathtaking. We're cruising July 11-18. I can't wait.

Thanks. I'll let you know if we have other questions.

Mary:D

I believe you'll be out in Dyea... are you doing the pony rides?? If so when you drive out there... you turn on this dirt road. To the left is the ponies and to the right my parents house!

We're cruising on the Holland American Oosterdam the week of July 3-10th. I absolutely love Juneau. Also, did the Alaska cruise last year and Juneau was my favorite port!

We just got home from Seattle and California tonight. After we got off the Diamond Princess on Saturday June 19th, we stayed in Seattle overnight, did the Space Needle, the Ducks Tour and ate two meals down at the waterfront.
Sunday we flew to Orange County California to go to Disneyland. We stayed at the Paradise Pier Hotel.

The weather in Alaska on Tuesday and Wednesday was hotter than California. We brought so many clothes that we didn't need. The Alaskans said that we had the best cruise weather in many years. People were actually sunbathing on the ship decks...
We went dogsledding on a glacier in Skagway. Highlight of my trip. It was amazing. We booked the 2:45PM tour directly with Princess thru Temsco and we were the only tour that actually was not cancelled due to weather. We had our own team of 12 dogs, along with the dog owner. We acually stood on the back of the sled and had to brake when the driver said STOP....Going up hill was ok, going downhill on the ice was a little scary.
Amazing trip.
You have a beautiful state.

We are leaving soon as you can tell by my countdown and will be cruising up the inside passage on HAL. I do not want to overpack, I was wondering if it is enough to bring light weight jackets, and a couple of sweatshirts for each of us, I do not want to pack coats if I can help it. (I have lightwieght raincoats and ponchos) We will be stopping in Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway. In Ketchikan we thought to see the town on our own, we did book the lumberjack show as the kids were interested in that. In Juneau we are taking a helicopter to the Mendenhall glacier, and in Skagway we will be going to a miners camp. What other things do you recommend, we will have DS's who are now 12 with us.
The week after that we will be driving up to Denali.

We also have one full day in Vancouver before the cruise, does anyone have any must see recommendations for this city?

TIA
