Okay I’ll admit I don’t tip MouseKeeping. I have never tipped housekeeping at any hotel (except on cruises), it just never occurred to me. I’m normally a very good tipper (20%) to the traditional people that get tips because I know their hourly pay is lower and tips are a big part of their income. I don’t think MouseKeepers are considered tipped positions. Not to say they don’t often deserve a nice thank you and reward for a job well done, and I certainly can’t fault anyone for showing gratitude to the person that took care of their family during a vacation.

So that’s the question for the day; Who Tips Mousekeeping?

I try to leave a little something no matter where I stay. I have 3 kids, and that usually adds up to a little added work. I leave Mousekeeping 5 a day, except when we left on Christmas Eve- we left 20 as a Christmas bonus. We checked out an hour late and I am sure most people would like to leave on Christmas Eve as early as possible, so we tried to make up a little for that.

We do! I do it mostly because I'm so grateful to have someone else cleaning up after my husband and kids for a change!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Seriously though, I think we've had some really good Mousekeepers in the past. They go above and beyond their normal duties. Their special touches make our vacation even more magical. I think they are very often overlooked as a big part of the Disney magic!

We do.
We leave a tip everyday and they don't even have to make our beds (we use our own sheets and blankets). But they always have done a great job for us. :)

I always tip the housekeeping staff well. It always comes back to you exponentially. You will get extra towels, extra smiles, extra work setting up dolls and stuffed animals, etc. And they are not as likely to turn you in if they find you have too many people in your room, if you leave the whips, handcuffs and lingerie lying out, if you criticize the government, etc.

hahah, kirk...you are funny! Thanks for the chuckle.

Yes, I tip housekeeping (at other hotels) and mousekeeping (at Disney hotels) a few bucks every day. It doesn't hurt to spend a few extra bucks a day, and it can really add up for them. I didn't use to...I grew up with parents that never did. Just something I started in the past few years.

We always tip mouse & housekeeping. Usually we tip 3-5 per day.
I'm not by any means sure on this, but I THOUGHT, I read somewhere that they don't make minimum wage. Does anyone know if this is true?

In the past I've always tipped housekeeping (mousekeeping, whatever), but I've only it on our last day. Now I know that there are different people each day so I will start tipping everyday. I'd like to do $5 a day, but some days I may only do $3 or $4. The standard is $1 a day per person. I understand some don't tip because they are not making below min. wage like many waitresses, etc. But are they making that much more ABOVE min. wage? The housekeeping staff I've seen have always been very hard working, often older women, who are probably trying to support their families. I know I hate to clean so I want to give them a little something extra.

We I was a young teen I helped out a friends mother clean at a hotel for a few weeks. It was hard work and nasty. Some people are unbelievable slobs and we would encounter so gross stuff. Don't get me started on the details! Since I have walked in there shoes I tip generously.

I always tip, even though I'm usually alone and don't make much of a mess...

We always tip, $1 per person. :teleport:

I always tip whether it is at Disney or someplace else -- pleasure or business. I am always amazed at my collegues who give no consideration to tipping the guy who brings the bags to your room but think tipping housekeeping is over the top. I think the housekeeper has earned a tip (especially for some of the rooms I've seen).

We always prepare the Mousekeeping envelopes with our DD. She understands what we are doing and why we do it. I think it helps her value the work of others.

I always tip, no matter where I am staying. Plus, there is the added incentive of leaving a nice tip for Mousekeeping equals them doing cute things with our souvieners or towels, etc!

We have always tipped except when we stayed at the Poly in Oct. 03. The (lack of) housekeeping was so horrible that Dh refused to leave a tip. In over twenty years, I have never seen DH not tip! :earseek: He was that upset.

i always tip.ANd i have found that i get extra towels, soaps etc,,coffees,,teas,,whatever compared to other folks in our party that stayed in other rooms and did NOT tip.I also try to keep the room from being too out of hand.My brother in law is a SLOB on vacation.I am suprised no one has used his toothbrush to scrub the toilets(he is also rude to housekeeping) ugh

Lurker de-lurking here. :)

Aren't there little cards in the AKL that say not to tip? Do people tip anyway?
