Who still takes your video camera on the rides?

My dad always used to take the camcorder on attractions. Are you still allowed to do this? We have a whole video of us on the Winnie the Pooh ride. Any of you guys have videos of the inside of a ride?

Don't take it on Dinosaur. I was sitting next to this obnoxious guy that was trying to tape the whole ride, preview and all. He stood right in front of everyone during the pre-show so that he could tape it. I was "lucky" enough to sit next to him in the front row of our time rover. The CM told him that he had to put his video camera away. Of course he ignored her and we had the lovely bright light from the screen from the camera taking away from the dark ambiance of the ride. Not even 1/4 of the way through, someone came on the load speaker and repeated over and over, "turn off your video camera".

I hope that he was embarrassed. We missed part of the audio, because they had to make the announcement.

We videotaped PW and ToT. We also videotaped Fantasmic!, Ill., and B&tB, and parts of Indy. Video taping on rides makes for great home movies. It's fun to hear everyone's reactions and see the ride how you saw it. It's like experiencing the ride all over again.

I've taped most of the E Ticket rides at WDW. Splash Mtn comes out particularly well. I get myself in the back of the log to catch the reactions of the family and to lessen the water risk. My camera can be operated without the bright LCD screen open and there's no tally light to give me away. In general, I find that tapes on the WDW boats, monorail and horse drawn Main Street carriage seem to capture the moment for us better than the rides. We boarded the carriage at the start of Main Street on the first day of our 2001 trip and filmed up to the castle. That footage always takes us back.

When we were there last September, there was a man sitting 3 seats ahead of me on BTMRR holding his camcorder in the air to tape the ride. All I kept thinking was that we'd hit a bump, he'd lose his grip, and the camcorder would fly back and smash into my head.

I asked him nicely to put it away and he told me to "Bleep Off."

I certainly did not enjoy that ride.

Doesn't anyone else see the danger of using a camcorder on a thrill ride or it is just me?

That's hilarious! Sorry you missed some of the audio though. We also taped some of Mr. Toad (I think), some of IASW (you're right, it's extremely boring on tape), and at Disneyland, Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin (another ride they should have at WDW). When I was really little, my dad taped Splash Mountain and Snow White, because I was too afraid to ride them, but watching the tapes made me not as scared, and I love them today! *That's a good tip when trying to have your kids go on scary rides.*

Several years ago when the bigger video cameras were all the rage, my DH tried taping the ride in Space Mountain. Big mistake. To make a long story short, the strap broke and that was the end of our camera. Never tried it again.
