Do I leave Jacob's social security card unsigned, or do I sign it? When I was young parents didn't have to have social security numbers to claim children on their taxes, so I didn't get a card until I knew how to sign my name.

I had my DD sign hers when she learned to write her name, before that I left it blank.

mine was left blank until I signed it

Well since dd's handwriting is so bad - I am not going to have her sign her until you can actually read her writing - she will be 12 in May - and could care less about her handwriting now

DS's isn't signed. He'll be 10 in April. Not planning on signing for a while.

Our kids are unsigned and in the safety deposit box. They can stay there until they are ready to get that first job.

We waited until DD could sign it herself.

I just left my kids' blank until they turned teenagers and had nice handwriting - well..... at least the DD does!;)

I have left Nathan's blank for now.

I will probably have him sign it when he gets to be a teenager.

Just leave it unsigned. There is really no need to have it signed at this time. Like someone else stated when he goes for his first job then give it to him to sign and use for an I-9 document.

mine was unsigned until i was about 20.

I've left DD's blank. She'll be twelve in June. I don't expect her to need it, therefore sign it before she's 16.

I signed both of my kids SS cards. My mom did mine when I was younger so I just followed what she had done. Really never thought to leave it blank. I guess when they get ready to turn sixteen I could order new ones and then have them sign their own.

Both of our children's SS cards are unsigned and in a safe place for when they are older. There is no need for a signature on a child's SS card.

I signed mine when I was 4- its a bit embarassing now ;) I really need to get around to getting a new one!

DS's is unsigned and in a fireproof box in my filing cabinet. I will probably have him sign it when he is 16.
