The first aid clinics see so many people every day that I imagine it would be impossible to call every single person the following day.

I agree, it would simply be hard for them to do a call back for every single person that has an accident, even just the ones where there is really no blame, it would be a nightmare for them to call back every person that has stubbed their toe or twisted their ankle because a step or grade in the pavement didn't have a sign on it that said "There's a step here".

Not attacking OP, this is just MY feelings on it. I can just understand how they wouldn't be able to call everyone back.

safetymom, do you know if there is a warning posted somewhere (I'm thinking over by the bridge between France and UK, or possibly on the park map). I know I've heard or seen a warning but I can't think where. When we did an IllumiNations cruise, our captain certainly warned us. I do remember that. But I'm pretty sure I heard or read a warning somewhere in the park as well.

I don't think anyone is blaming anyone else on this thread. I think we're actually blaming no one. Accidents happen. Hopefully Disney takes appropriate action (and in this case they did treat the girl). No one is to blame for something like that and I don't see any posts here placing blame on anyone.
I thought I was pretty sure they announced something about smoke when I was there a couple of weeks ago, but I don't remember if there were any other warnings. It was something about this is an exciting display of fireworks and effects and smoke may blow. I'm not totally sure, I just know in my head I went "aha I had read on the DIS Board that sometimes Illuminations Cruises have been ruined by smoke/fumes blowing at people"

Just wanted to say hope your daughter is 100% better now.

Just got back this monday, and the guys on the boats at Epcot were all saying, don't stand downwind, you'll get soot in your eyes from the fireworks.

To which my dad with the very dry sense of humor replied, "well, duh!"

Dude, you got PARAMEDICS to come check on your kid! Disney could have just had a castmember squirting an osha bottle of water in his eyes and have been covered.

There's a doc in the box right outside Crossroads, and the Celebration hospital (very nice, been there for a tummy bug picked up at disney-their fault?) is right around the corner. I would have taken your kid to one of those rather than relied upon on-site paramedic tx. They're NOT doctors.

I think the best bet to ensure no one in the family gets hurt is just to avoid the fireworks. If anyone wants to stay to see the fireworks, then it's the risk they have to take. Of if you want to see the fireworks, just watch it from afar. We do. We watch it on our way out. It's not the best view.. but hey, we're closer to the gate and the wait for the bus will not be long, we'll be the first few people in line. :)

I'm a CM and working at Disney really brings about a certain responsibility. Hey, I want MY vacation to be Magical just as much as I want YOURS to be Magical. Sadly, we all know sometimes that can't happen.

Disneymommie, definitely write to the email address mentioned above or write to:

Walt Disney World
Guest Communications
P.O. Box 10040
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830-0040

And this is for everything, complaints, compliments or anything in between. Hope your daughter is MUCH better now!

Not to say that your daughters injury is not important, but do you realize how many vacationing guests have parametics look at them daily? Sadly, this is not a mom&pop sort of operation. I totally believe that WDW cares about a little girl. That is why they didn't charge you a co-pay to deliver medical attention. If this was in some way a fault or an accident that was a potential law suit with merit, I fear that you would have had a call back. To that end, I think that WDW did what was required for the incident.
While checking in to our Wilderness Cabin last Feb., our toddler tripped over a bag that the CM put on the top of the porch steps and he fell down the flight of stairs to the feet of the CM. The CM was horrified that he helped cause this accident and he called the parametics. We were thankful to know that our baby would be okay, and that WDW cared enough to make sure he'd be okay too by calling the parametics. We never recieved a follow up call. We went on and continued our trip, and our little baby had bruises. I didn't expect a follow up call, because WDW did help right away. Accidents happen. Personal responsibility is required on a vacation. We took responsibility for our child being too close to the CM to begin with which caused the accident. There are many things that seem so ordinary that can hurt our children. We all take risks every day, no matter how minor.

Hope your daughters eye is better! I totally undestand what you are saying.. I would have thought they could have at least called you! I see your point!

My daughter is doing just fine. Thank you for all who cared. I will take what I originally wanted from the post ...the address, and leave the rest alone. I am getting more upset sitting here being bashed for simply wanting to notify a company of a problem we had while on their property. It was not a wind issue it was an issue with soot from a blast 15-20 feet in front of us. I would NOT have stood there had I know we were that close to a discharge. It is NOT about not getting a phone call it is about not having warning that fireworks would discharge that close to us.

The following night our last night, we did go to see Wishes and we got seats at the train station FAR FAR away from the castle. Mainly because said daughter was VERY scared to see the fireworks again, for fear she might get injured again.

I am glad she is ok.....and I am sorry she was nervous about the Wishes fireworks the next night.....who can blame her....I say right the letter...It sounds like a Disney issue to me not wind....Like one poster said it could be the direct result of people being way to close to the cannon....I understand that you dont want anything in return and just trying to protect potential visitors, my children for example from getting hurt....I say Kudos for caring about your family and others and at the same time supporting Disney....Disney should have something marked, I agree ,saying cannon will be shot from this area please stand with caution....nothing wrong with that....

YUH THIS WEEKEND WAS A GREAT WEEKEND to be in WDW longest i waiting in a line was 20 mins for aerosmith ride on sunday. But we had to switch rooms 3 times @ pop and i was treated rather rudely by bill the rent a cop security guard @ the MK gates for wearing a french connectin shirt.

Ok, what I want to know is what's wrong with wearing a french connection shirt???????

It's just we've come to a time, and we see many posts, where everyone wants to send a letter. Usually, not always, but usually the intent is to "get something". If not, then why really bother? Everyone claims it's just to let them know. Well, most likely they already know of the incident or whatever happened. I'm going to assume it just makes some people feel better. So, take it for what it's worth.

I honestly can see how it would be too big a job for Disney to check on every guest that may of been injured (irregardless of who's fault it is). Especially when 99% of the injuries are related to incidents that are really beyond Disney's control.

The logo on french Connections shirt is: FCUK. Some people find it offensive.

My son had his eyes burned badly from the quiet pool at POR. He swims all the time at home so it wasn't a case of just red eyes that many people get when they swim. His eyes were blood red and hurt. He could barely keep them open.

All we could figure out is that the pH wasn't correct in the pool. We went to first aid at MK and were given some eye drops and he was pretty miserable for 2-3 days. We never got a call back nor did we expect to hear back from them. I did inform them at POR that they might need to check the pH of the pool.

Sorry, but this is not naziland, you should be able to wear a french connection shirt if you choose to - taste and freedom are two different things.

The OP's question has been answered and if she would like the thread locked I will keep an eye peeled for her request to do so.

I have been doing a bit of research and cannot find anyone who can confirm there are fireworks blasts at Epcot that are anywhere near a 15-20 foot range of guests, but it is very common to have soot blown at guests, sometimes in rather large pieces. The firework launches are located in the middle of the lake, (some have been or still are launched from pavilion roofs) not along the shore where guests would be standing. Even so, the OPs daughter suffered from the soot and perhaps a letter will make the OP feel better.

My intention, and I suspect the intention of other posters who said a letter is not likely to reap results was mearly a gentle warning to the OP not to expect much. I didn't mean in the way of 'compensation', I simply meant Disney are not even likely to respond to a letter. I certainly was not thinking the OP was asking for compensation, I just posted hoping to hint that she isn't likely to get the satisfaction of an answer or apology.

The final result is, her daughter is ok. That's a good thing. No one wants to think a child has suffering of any kind at Disney, but unfortunately it is a daily occurance (many times over!) due to no fault on anyone's part. I would hope we can all agree we're glad the little girl is fine now.

I know what you mean about getting flamed. Once on the Vacation Club board I posted about our hide a bed in our 1br at OKW was broken (it was obviously broken just looking at it), and having discovered it at bed time (we threw our stuff in our room when we checked in and off to the park, so we didn't even look at the bed), by the time it was fixed (there was prompt attention by engineering, it just took a while to fix) it was after 1:30 am. I asked on the board if anyone would have said anything to OKW mgmt? I didn't complain or even say anything at the time, was just curious what everyone thought. I wasn't looking for any free nights etc, but thought maybe one of those immediate fast passes for our trouble would have been nice. Man did I get flamed. You'd have thought people were thinking I expected our whole vacation to be paid for. I just got to a point like you and said the heck with it. Ask a legitimate question, get flamed. Seems like it's a rather common occurance on these boards.

Regarding being 'flamed', I wonder if those who have been on the boards for many years and heard many years worth of guests thinking they should get 'something' for their discomfort/inconvenience/sorrow at an attraction being closed during their stay/dislike of the counter service food, etc., some posters may be a bit jaded when they read about a situation they think has been settled sufficiently but the person asking the question still feels they are due some compensation.

Obviously that is not the case here, other than the OP wanting an apology. Fair enough...anyone can want an apology. Hopefully, you can read all the replies offered and see that some agree, some disagree, and some just wish you well and hope things turned out for the best. :)

Cleo...

I have been here for a long time, do not post often but read all the time. Have seen many case were people are looking for something, that is not my intention, again I am going back to Disney no matter what. NO expectations from them except to alert them to the situation. Maybe I am mistaken about the range of the fireworks but they seemed to have come from the bushes area by us.

Again thanks to all...now I think we can call it case closed and close this post.

THANK YOU!!

Disneymommie, it's pretty clear you weren't looking for anything more than an apology. I'm glad your little one is ok. :)

I'll close the post for you.
