I love the outdoors! Hunting, fishing and camping. Friday I went fishing on the bay and had a great day and caught a lot of fish. At about 11:30 I noticed a snake swimming across the water towards my boat. I had my digital camera with me so I took a picture and afterwards noticed it was a four foot diamondback rattle snake. I kept an eye on it but was distracted when I hooked a fish. As I turned towards the back of the boat the snake had used the motor to climb into the boat. :(

Now I've been around all sorts of snakes but they still scare the **** out of me. I used my net to catch him and attempt to throw him back in the water but he got tangled up and I could not get him out. So I wound up chopping his head off and took him home.
My wife did not apprcieate that to much but now I have a great fish story. I also have the skin drying and asked her if she wanted a snakeskin belt for Christmas. She said no.

Oh no, oh no....I knew rattlesnakes could swim from living in Arizona but I didn't know they would swim in salt water :(

Yikes. Now I remember why I hate Texas! Poisonous snakes. Had a run in with a copperhead at Girl Scout Camp near Ft Hood

Don't they have water moccasins, at least, in Florida, Lisa? I thought they had venomous snakes in Florida, too.

I lived in Texas briefly as a child and water moccasins scared the "you know what" out of me. Gonna have nightmares now...:(

We've had water snakes here too for as long as I can remember.

Most or many species of snake swim. Floating snakes and floating mounts of fire ants are two of the big things to watch for when it is flooding.

Yes we have poisonous snakes here. I am terrified of them. I won't go near a snake if I can help it. I have gotten brave enough to touch a boa but not hold one.

I would have FREAKED OUT...
Now about that belt...;)

Oh my goodness!!!   I would have flipped out!

I've never heard anyone say that snakes can't swim. ??

My cousin was bitten by a snake while canoeing on a creek in rural Mississippi. He was airlifted to the hospital and wound up on the front page of the local newspaper. Big close up of his TOE... how proud we all were.

Why oh why oh why did I open this thread? I am now completly FREAKED OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to have nightmares now. Why would the snake crawl into the boat? WHY???????????

This is worse than the thread about the snake looking in the window while the poster was Dising:eek:

Why do I open snake threads? WHY??????????????????????

DITTO!!!!

Swimming snakes are my freaking point......
