Who Remembers: Papeete Bay Verandah??

Yep, sure do and you're right about breakfast. Preferred the place to Ohana actually.

Wasn't there another restaurant at the Poly..around the same time.
Over near the game room and Capt. Cook's?

The other I remember was Tangorra Terrace in the building where the Neverland Club is. But I have a very vague memory of another one in the GCH, probably 1970's, but just can't come up with it.

There was one where Kona is now, Garden something or other I think. It had an open airy look, lots of green with white lattice work.

We used to eat at Papeete Bay Veranda every first night. I thought I recalled that they weren't open for breakfast and we would always have breakfast at Tangaroa Terrace or the place where Kona is now.

Edited: Wait wait wait....It was the Coral Isle, (or Island), Cafe.

I remember the Coral Isle well and it was a great place. I just have this vague memory from way way back of another restaurant but can't place it.

There was breakfast at Papeete at one point, I can remember being in there but only 1 year. So I'm thinking it might have been when Tangorra Terrace closed. Maybe someone else's memory is clearer on that than mine.

Anyone????

One of the best breakfasts on property.
Those were the days!!!

I do! I was just a kid, but I know my parents and grandparents really liked it and we went there several times for their breakfast. I seem to remember eating a lot of pineapple and some little muffins - almond, maybe?

Oh I sure do!!
Great food, hula dancer and a 3 piece combo entertaining at dinner. My first meal at WDW was at PBV--Pigs and Prawns. Three large slices of pork tenderloin along with 3 jumbo Tempura shrimp. YUM!!!

Can't recall that they had breakfast there--we always went to Tangorra Terrace for the buffet.

And Coral Isle Cafe looked exactly (or almost exactly) like Kona does now--a coffee shop rather than a restaurant.

I remember eating at one of the Poly restaurants back in... 1980 or so, maybe. I feel like the restaurant was where 'Ohana is now, and I remember that I ordered the Mt. Fuji Salad. Am I thinking about the same place you are?

We definitely have fond memories of Papeeta Bay Verandah, and Tangaroa Terrace was where I first experienced Tonga Toast!

DEA: If it was before Ohana--yes. But PBV changed from what it was originally to a mostly Chinese type place before it closed. That was in the early 1980's. I think it shut down entirely in the early 90's(?)

The "original" restaurant wasn't doing a good business so they "dumbed down" the menu, at first eliminating the hula dancer, later eliminating the combo, and lowering prices. That failed..they did even less business than before.

One of the sad sights I recall was--after the menu change--the manager standing out in the lobby area with a stack of menus, trying to get people to come in.

I remember eating at the place that was now where Kona is in 1978. We ate there every morning before going to the parks* - my favorite breakfast - balls of cantaloupe in a martini-type glass, with coconut milk and shaved coconut on top. I know I've posted this before here, but I loved it so much my mom got the ingredients after we got home so we could make it ourselves.

* LOL - 1978 - make that "park".
