who packs light for the parks?

I was just wondering who packs light when they go to the parks. I know that I normally carry what I keep in my pockets everyday. I would bring a small digital camera and would keep it in case that I would like a belt. I am going to actually get a smaller camera so I can just keep in my pocket. But does anyone else NOT travel with a backpack or some kind of bag?

I would consider myself a light packer. I wear a fanny bag with my camera, eyeglasses (dont' you just hate getting old!!), id card, credit card, park ticket, etc and some cash. That's it. DH will carry a water bottle when he is with me. That's it. I don't like carrying "stuff" with me.

I can say Finally I do now. Having a waist/fanny pack on everyone in the family vs. the backpack made a huge difference.

I've even thought of carrying a business card holder with my ID, check card, and AP (when I get one later this year), and some cash so that I can make some extra room in my front pocket! It is all about being the light packer! I feel like it makes a difference when trying to get from ride to ride. The less stuff to drag around, the easier it to move around. It really makes the day even more fun when you don't have to worry about what to do with a backpack on rides.

I never bring anything really, besides money. Sometimes I wear my Stitch backpack, but he's more of a fashion statement than a carry along. :teeth:

That depends. If is just me and DH, I wear a fanny pack and only carry my credit card, cash, tylenol, a poncho and hand sanitizer. If I'm taking the kids, I take the backpack so I can carry extra water, snacks, & meds.

If it's just me and it's warm then I'll use a fanny pack. The last 2 times I have gone it's been a backpack. I get cold easy so in December I bring a warmer shirt/jacket for the evenings and the day if it's chilly. I've had my mom along with me the last 2 trips though and she uses an ECV or wheelchair so she gets to be the pack mule. :teeth:

Newbie here! Along the lines of having a bag, do most rides allow then on? I am thinking of using a small purse that I'll wear over my head and around my body - not sure about pickpockets in Disney, just got used to this "defense" method of carrying my bag from Hawaii vacation. I've heard the water ride in Animal Kingdom has a center until for storing your bag???

We've gone to the parks with just our ID, check card, room key, pass, and my inhaler before. All fits snugly in our pockets!

They have these great things at Bed Bath and Beyond that are hard plastic cases that fit credit card size things, room key, actual carkey, etc. It's wide enough to hold a car key if need be along with a few plastic cards, but thin enough that it still slides into a pocket easily. Anyways, it's watertight and hardsided so it doesn't bend anything, and I'm tempted to buy one next trip out - they're $5.

We've never had a problem carrying bags on with us - some rides have places to store them in front of you or under you, while on other rides you can just toss it near your feet.

Now, if you're hitting Universal, they don't allow any bags of any kind of many of their rides.

nope, my mom packs everything possible. she wears this big backpack on her back, and it's embarassing, sorta... but it does come in handy sometimes... like one time we were in line for peter pan and my little sister and brother got h ungry, and the line for the ride was really long! my little brother and sister where complaining and everything and we didn't want to get out of line so my mom just pulled out some fruit snacks and finally shutted up!! but when ever we went we never had problems with pick pockets (knock on wood) every one there seems too busy and having too much fun to steal ( i hope)

edit-- yea, and it depends on how many people with you. When we went there was 7 people with us

We pack light. The only extra is a camera, now a small digital, and maybe some snacks, like a few bags of peanuts. Never could understand bringing a backpack to the parks.

DH and I travel especially light! My lipstick is the only thing we bring to the parks (besides money, of course). So straight through the no bags line we go, off to enjoy our day in the park! Ain't life with no kids grand?

I can and do get away with everything in my pocket or on my lanyard. I attach my ID, cash and AP to the pin lanyard and anything else in the pocket. That way I don't have to go via bag check.

Usually just a fannypack now, if that. If the weather is iffy & I need a warm layer to start out the day, then I bring a little woven daypack thing. But if I can avoid it, I do.

Mom of two here, sling bag with sunscreen, meds, ponchos and cell phone. THe one time I left the phone in the room we needed to change PS' and had to find guest services :( Kids usually swap off carrying th ebag since it's mad of Disney fabric :)

We've been twice, once when my boys were 3 1/2 and almost 6 and again when they were 12 and 14. All I ever took anywhere once they were potty trained at 2 1/2 was a fanny pack with tickets, camera, sunglasses, sunscreen and money. My DH had his wallet. It's a heck of a lot easier to buy snacks, etc than cart that stuff around. We were also on a tight budget, we just didnt' buy them everything they asked for and we ate a lot of counter service meals which for kids is the most economical. The fact is, most people don't need 90% of the stuff they haul with them. We also didn't use a stroller anywhere past the age of about 2. They walked everywhere and we never had a problem. I didn't want to add to the traffic jams and can't stand getting run into by kamikaze stroller parents. No one took naps, we just made sure to get them into bed by 9 each night and they were raring to go the next day. It just made our vacations extremely relaxing to just basically get up, shower, eat breakfast and go. No packing anything, hauling a stroller around or renting one, or worrying that something was forgotten.

What do you do with all that stuff? :rotfl:

In our family, I'm the only one who ever needs to go through the security check in because I'm the only one carrying anything. I wear a fanny pack with all the tickets, my wallet and car keys. That's it. Sometimes I'll carry a small digital camera. My husband and son go in with what they have in their pockets, their wallets. If we carry ponchos, we each carry our own, looped over belts or the fanny pack.

I hate to lug around so much stuff. On our trip in June I saw so many people lugging what appeared to be the kitchen sink with them. Each one carrying a back pack. The diaper bag (supersized), and even more stuff. With the heat and crowds, it just seems like overkill.

No bags for me! I can't stand the though of having to lug a backpack around the parks or even have a fanny pack around my waist. I just take my room key & my lipstick - bare essentials! Sometimes I'll take the camera, but not often because I don't like having to lug it around.

I'm with you 100%. If I can't fit it into a pocket (although I usually wear cargo shorts that have good sized pockets), I don't take it.
<flame suit on> I hate fanny packs. Ugh. Can't stand the way they look.
