Well the ignitor on my oven just went. Just ordered the part and it cost $165.00. Dang that was my wive's xmas Nook present money.

Well I have been ovenless for about a month now. Don't have the $$ to replace the long dead one right now. But seeing as everyone thinks they're coming here for Thanksgiving I better get one pronto!

You still have a couple weeks to save that $$ for the Nook!

I haven't had an oven for almost 2yrs now. It can be done :rotfl:

I cook mostly with an electric skillets and griddle. :thumbsup2 Believe it or not you can actually boil water and cook spaghetti even. I do it to conserve propane for the water heater. Helps it last longer at nearly $90 for 100 lb tank. :sad2:

Thankfully my mom has a giant roaster pan that is electric(bought for the reason above when she was living in this house) that cooks turkeys and whole chickens etc. but it can definitely be done.

I went almost a year and a half without an oven because mine wasn't that old, but out of warranty and I hated to buy a new one. I did find out you can cook a holiday meal for 13 using a toaster oven, roaster and crock pots plus the stove top! Not something I would want to do again, but it can be done!

wow, you guys are incredible! I'd be lost without mine. OP, sorry for the issues. It sucks that you had to use christmas money. maybe you could get the nook for valentines day. hope it all works in the end.

That really stinks, I'm sorry! At least it wasn't a whole new oven needing replacing!
I love everyone's ingenuity~ we did without a microwave for 9 months. Don't know how we ever did it as kids without one!

OP, I'm sure your wife will enjoy her Nook whenever she can get it.

How much do you pay for internet and cable monthly? Maybe you could find a few more places to save a little money and be able to cook and make the wife happy. You ARE the cook, right?;)

Me too!! My big toaster oven is my friend. It would cost almost the cost of a new stove to fix my oven and so I am saving up to get a fancy commercial stove with iron grates. :)

Are you talking about an electric ignitor for a gas oven? The ignitor on our gas oven went out a couple of years ago. We just light the burner with a match or an aim and flame.

Can you cancel the order?

Eight years ago my former sister in law blew the new oven money on something frivilous instead. Brother blew his stack and refused to give her more money for another one. She spent years using the toaster oven instead. Now shes gone but the lame oven is still there. I think she took the toaster oven. :lmao: Just a thought but you can limp along with a toaster oven for a while if you really want to.

I'm sorry for the unexpected expense. I just thought it would be funny to share that when I first moved down here I had a tiny apartment and since I couldn't (ahem.. can't) cook anyway I used my oven for storage. :rotfl: It might have been broken but I wouldn't have known because I never turned it on!

ohhhh I hate when those things happen! Maybe look for a used one on ebay.

I personally can't live without mine. I cook every night and when mine broke, it was a week to get a new one ordered and I was miserable. I HATE cooking with the microwave.

We tried a flame. The gas valve wont open if the ignitor doesnt get hot enough to ignite.

Thanks for the ideas & replies. I can say the timing is bad for this to happen but really when is a good time for something like this.

We've needed a new stove for awhile and just missed the 30% Sears had last week because we kept going back and forth over which stove to get. By the time we put it in our basket at 11pm it went back to full price:sad2:

Save the $$ for the Nook and fix the oven later. My oven was broken for a year and a half, and between the toaster/convection oven and the microwave, it became nothing more than a fancy pot-storage unit. :thumbsup2 Now if my microwave broke, I would be :faint:

I was without a working oven for several years. I used a large toaster oven and grill for most everything (and my microwave and a crock pot as well.) I cooked a turkey in a roaster oven that I bought too, and between all of these things didn't worry too much about getting the oven fixed. You can cook a LOT in a nice size toaster oven (including baking brownies, cookies, etc.)

An oven is a necessity where as a nook is a want. IMO. We just spent $3000 to fix our cars and it sure would have been nice to use that money for a vacation but we need cars to get us to work.

I thought the oven was a place to store dirty dishes when unexpected guests knock on the door!:rotfl:

OP, sorry to hear of your misfortune.
