Who makes the better looking pins, WDW or DL?

IMHO, I believe that the DL pins are better looking and that the art is more thought out. WDW pins (again, IMHO) are sometimes a bit gaudy... ex) most dangle pins look kind of cheesy and even the slider pins look that way.

It just seems that the DL pins are better themed and the WDW pins are produced to make the quickest buck. I could be wrong and my wife tells me I am wrong most of the time.. lol.

What do ya'll think?

Dude

I would vote for DL pins, in my limited experience, not having seen all pins from all years.
I think the DL , DCA designs are more imaginative and creative. Just two examples - compare the 2 pins released for Daisy's 65th Anniversary/birthday ( WDW vs DL) and the same for Groundhog's Day. In both cases, I like the DL design better.
IMHO

What do the rest of you think?

Hi Dude!

I have to agree that the DL pins are far nicer! I just got back from the Princess Pin Event and saw a preview of the DL pins and they are much nicer than the WDW pins. I never collected DL pins before but they are so nice now that I make the effort to trade or buy those now. Their CM pins are much nicer too - bigger as well (ie. Hitchhiking Ghosts, Sleeping beauty Castle with drawbridge).

JMHO,

I have thought of this a lot. I always thought that the DL pins were far nicer than the WDW. But then I looked at the WDW ones and relized that they too were just as nice. The differance was that WDW has a lot more pins to pick from. But the most hard to find and ones everyone wants are almost always WDW pins... What I think the problem could be is that WDW has made to many pins and DL has not. Sorta 4 parks to 1... Just a thought.

I agree w/ you ... to a point and I should have included it in my first post. IMHO... it seems like the really cool ones (that appeal to me) come from DL. BUT.... it could be that I don't have as much access to DL pins as I do for WDW pins (lucky to visit 2x yr). WDW probably does produce more pins than DL but instead of so many produce visual quality pins (imho :) )

I feel that DL has made more well designed pins than WDW. I agree that WDW has produced more pins than DL but in general the pins I wish to add to my collection are from DL. Maybe it's because they make more Villain pins :D but when comparing say the 1 year pin trading anniversary pins DL's is a better design IMHO. Not that the WDW is bad or ugly, I like it too, but if I was making the decision and was presented with these 2 designs I would have chosen DL's. On the flip side I have not seen too many DCA pins that throw me. Not sure if it is Grizzly Mountain or what but there are not many DCA pins in my permanent collection.

The biggest factors I have seen in poor design are usually poor color choices, too much detail and over reliance on gimmicks. I have seen many dangle pins that would have worked just as well if the dangle was attached to the bottom of the pin. I have also seen excellent use of these features like the new DS Cheshire Cat and The Roger Rabbit dangle from the millenium series.

All in all it comes down to personal taste. I know there have been pins that I thought would win an award for the ugliest pin on the planet that someone else was ready to give it the Oscar for pin design!

I have always thought this as well - DL wins hand down. I think Dom hit it on the head analyzing WDW design as well regerdign the colors, over-detailed, and over-gimmicked. And, while WDW has higher output, they also have a much higher percentage of the Fab 4-5-6 (how many are there, really?) or Pooh Pooh Pooh and Friends. Doesn't that bear ever hibernate?

And, just to add my 2 cents, I am a big fan of the DCA pins - even the Grizzly! The CA map pin is a lot of fun!

As DL is my 'home' park, I am pretty partial to DL pins. But I think that I would say that anyway. I don't see a lot of WDW pins that I like. There are some that I really feel like I HAVE to have, but it's more because it is a character that I collect.

I collect Tinkerbell (what a surprise), and I loved the Lenticular Tink. Really a nice pin, so I traded for it. The new Tink Slider is also one that I would try to get, and the Walt with Tink is good too. The new Mystery Tink just does not look as attractive to me as so many of the other Tinkerbell pins. Even the pixie dust doesn't do much for me. When considering the 'dust' factor, the Gold Dust Mickey from DCA looks like a better constructed and better designed pin. From a Tink fan, that is not saying very much for the Mystery Tink pin! I am not saying that I wouldn't want to add this pin to my collection; just that I wouldn't pay more than $20-25 for it or trade any higher than that either.

We have also been flooded with Tinkerbell pins lately, so that might be influencing my decision.
But I still like the DL Tinkerbells more than the WDW. I can only think of one other Tinkerbell pin that I didn't want to add to my collection, and that was a WDW pin too.

Do they have different designers for each side of the country or what?

JMHO.
