So last night around midnight our phone rings and it says 'private number' (of course...) and this guy on the other end says: 'Hi I just shot a firecracker out of my butt happy 4th of July'. Who does this anymore? With all the new video games and other stuff for teens to do they are still bored enough to make prank phone calls :confused3

Well Happy 4th of July to me I guess..

*sigh* I accidentally called the wrong number this morning thinking I was calling a restaurant only to find out that I was calling a families house. I realized this after the guy on the phone said "This is a family. We do not have take out food."

maybe he thought he was calling a friend???:confused3

but I agree people are very immature when alcohol is involved!!!!;)

I think prank phone calls are still funny to some immature people. Heck the radio show I listen to does them but they are called phone scams now. Still not funny to me.

I love caller ID. I never answer if it shows private or it's a #800 number.

You would think with caller ID these days that folks wouldn't be doing this, but I guess you get idiots everywhere. I will say we never pick up the phone for "private" callers, because none of our friends or family register on our ID box this way and definitely no hospital or police department will show up that way either.

Our phone number used to spell BUTT at the end. So, you can imagine. I'm sure kids would sit around and think of how many vulgar words they could think of that were four letters. I suppose there were much worse than butt, but we had our share of calls. We got to where we would just *69 and call the parents.

Yes some police dept as well as 911 centers will show up as "blocked". With the many phone lines in the building they do not want the public to try calling in on numbers that may not be answered 24/7.

Our school shows up as private. That's why I usually answer the private calls, because I'm assuming it's the school. One of my best friends is a teacher, and she calls me on her breaks. I am also involved in our PTO quite a bit. If I ignored the private calls, my life would be a lot less hectic. Maybe that's an idea :)

Thankfully we don't have an issue with our local police or schools, both show up as the township police or a particular school. I look at it this way, if per chance it is a legit call they can talk to my answering machine after 4 rings. Funny thing is that on a rare chance we get a private or blocked number, its never that important where they leave a message, so problem solved.

on april first we me and my bff do prank calls all day its our little april fools party.

I will sometimes answer the unknown name/number calls because the number we got when we moved here previously belonged to someone who apparently never paid her bills. If I don't answer and tell them she no longer has the number, we'll sometimes get a bill collector who will call and call and call and call again.

We got a scary call last night with a weird number on the callerid. Turned out to be a reverse 911 announcement.

I probably would have responded..."No wonder your head is smoking!".

Seriously, I'm with Erica on this one -- can't they find something better to do?

Believe me, it's still a popular thing! I work for an answering service, we answer for doctors, lawyers, service companies, ect.... we get prank calls ALL the time! :headache: It's really fustrating too, most of our lines are for emergencies, so if it's a prank, we still have to talk to them and make sure it isn't an emergency, plus they are tying up the line for a real emergency call
that might be coming in.

We have two doctors that get ALOT of prank calls.
Dr Blood, an oral surgeon.....and Dr Toosie...a podiatrist
