Godsmack, Green Day, and Nickelback? Gag me with a spoon.

MCR is one band I can't get enough of these days.

Godsmack is one of few good metal bands today. Green Day is one of few "alternative" bands I can stand listening too, and that says a lot, and Nickelback can do it all. Soft stuff, Hardcore stuff, medium stuff. Not to mention they actually have something called skill.

I'm not totally dissing Green Day. I love their older stuff, but this new political stance they've taken lately has really started to bug me. "When September Ends" is a very good song though.

Nickelback... hardcore? ..... No.

Godsmack might not be metal, but it's still hard stuff, and when you look at rock, really when you get down to the nuts and bolts of it, there is only three catigories.

Hard Rock - This is where you find your Metal, and just other really hard stuff.

Rock - This is where most rock is found. Ranges from Poison to Simple Plan.

Soft Rock - This is where you find your Elton Johns of the world.

And don't give me any of this, "Alternative" stuff. Alternative to what? It's still rock.

I couldn't care less about what Green Day's political stance is. I like Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and American Idiot. I like their music, and that's all I care about.

Have you ever heard "Never Again"? Listen to that, and not just the lyrics either, the guitar, the drums, everything, and tell me that Nickelback isn't hardcore. Sure they arn't like that all the time, but that can be a good thing.

Classic Rock- AC/DC, KISS, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin...etc...

Pop Rock- Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, (new) Green Day...etc...

Rock- System of a Down, Velvet Revolver, Avenged Sevenfold...etc...

Alternative Rock- NIN, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins...etc...

Adult Alternative- Modest Mouse, Tori Amos, Radiohead...etc...


Alternative IS a category, and although broad, it was made as an "alternative" to mainstream radio.
