Who knows about the Poly?

I posted this question first on the resorts board, should have done it here first! I have read that the wheelchair accessible rooms at the Poly are all in the RapaNui longhouse. I am wondering if all those bathrooms have roll-in showers, or if some have tubs? My DS-14 still does better in the tub... thanks for any information about this specific question, or any other wheelchair observations made about the Poly...

We have stayed at the Poly many times. We always requested a roll-in shower but we were given a handicapped access tub on at least one occaission, which was diff. for us. However, I know that they were renovating all rooms & converting at least some of the tub rooms to roll-in showers. We have always called the hotel directly (sorry don't have the ph. # ) and spoke with someone who works in that hotel. I would recommend doing that, of course they won't guarantee that they'll give you what you request. We usually call again, right before we arrive & try to confirm our needs. Hope this helps! CMs who work at the resorts have written that calls to the 'individual resorts' actually go to a call center and not to the front desk of the hotels.

The place the WDW has set up to work with special needs is Special Reservations at (407) 939-7807 - option 1 (NOTE: When I checked the WDW website Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities, this number was no longer listed; they did suggest calling Resort Reservations: 407-939-7807 (TTY: 407-939-7670)

Anyway, the ADA requires hotels/resorts to have 2 types of handicapped rooms. The largest number of rooms have to be 'handicapped accessible and might inckude a tub with grab bars. A smaller number of rroms would have roll in showers that are fully wheelchair accessible.

Since it seems he does better in a tub, the roll in shower question seems moot. I went last year with a rented ESV and didn't say anything about it when asking for a room as it was the first time I had ever used something like that but had hurt my back and couldn't walk long distances or stand for long. The rooms at the POLY are so big you can just roll into the room in it and park it and charge it up and not have it be in the way...
