We just got back from a week at Disneyworld with our 2 yo. Our older two kids went on a trip with their grandma, so we decided to surprise the 2yo with a trip to his favorite Mouse's house. We arrived early at Magic Kingdom Monday morning, in time for the opening ceremonies. Our 2yo had no idea where we were (although this is his third trip to WDW, if you include time in the womb ...) until Mickey came out off the train. That was a great moment.
We walked up Main Street, heading for Dumbo, but got sidetracked by a nice cast member who took me by the arm and insisted we ride the Pooh ride instead. That was fine -- we were the first people on the ride, I believe. But the 2yo is not a huge Pooh fan, so it was probably a bit over his head.
Second ride, though, was Dumbo. THAT was a thrill. A flying elephant? What can be better than that. Then we dipped into Philharmagic, which is my favorite 3-D movie at WDW.
: Love love love it. I only wish they did less clowning around with Donald during the magic carpet ride sequence -- I love the flying sensation and wish there was more of it.
Next we jumped on Peter Pan before that got insane. And when we were done with that, it was just past 10 a.m., when Toon Town was open. So we headed over there, puttered around Mickey's house (again, a thrill for the 2 yo) and then tried to stand in line to meet The Mouse. But the line was already insane. Not moving. Hot. And lots of cranky kids. So we decided to leave and try to grab Mickey another day someplace else. We came out just as the train was arriving, so we dashed over there. Another 2 yo thrill. He would've been happy to ride the train around the park a few times.
Instead, we got off in Frontierland, and as we were trying to decide what to do next, we spied Goofy taking pictures with some folks. So we got in line and waited. The 2 yo was thrilled. He was waving and yelling "Hi Goofy!" And then it was our turn. The 2 yo took a step towards Goofy, and Goofy took a step towards the 2 yo, and it was all over. First the 2 yo yelled, "No!" and started to run away. So Goofy took another step towards him, and the 2 yo started shrieking and screaming and running as fast as his little legs would take him. (I know this makes me a horrible parent, but it was really quite funny.) I picked him up and consoled him, and as I did that, Goofy went over to the fence and sulked. It was very cute. He acted as if he was scared of the 2 yo, and we all stood together for a few pictures. And then Goofy tried to give the 2 yo a high five, and the screaming started again ...
For the record, he's not scarred. We got it all on video and now is favorite movie is the Goofy video ...
So, in an attempt to calm the little guy down, we did the Country Bear Jamboree, took a Jungle Cruise, and then went into the Hall of Presidents. I quite liked the Hall of Presidents show, but it put the 2 yo to sleep. So it was officially time to head home and take a nap!
More to come!
