Do you like them, and why? How much do you pay per month?

I am looking for a new provider because I'm not happy about the price I pay. I'm not on the internet alot but I like the fast connection. However, I'm willing to sacrifice the fast connection for something cheaper. (I'm paying $39.99/month now).

Thanks for any input!

We originally got AOL years ago when we first got the internet. When Road Runner finally became available in our area (approximately 3 years ago) we switched to that, but we were so used to using AOL that we also kept AOL. So we use RR and pay about $40 a month....I am not really sure, it is rolled into our cable bill as well. We also pay a modified rate of something like $10 to have AOL and use it through our highspeed connection. I am very happy with RR, as far as AOL...I think it has gone down hill over the years. If I wasn't so attached to my email and some of the AOL features I wouldn't feel the need to have it at all.

I made the switch to Netzero back in August and I have had no problems at all. I switched from AOL $23.90/month to Netzero $9.95/month. This is for unlimited service. It connects fine (dial-up) and believe it or not it is faster than AOL. There are no banner ads or pop-ups. It is local for me so there are no additional phone charges. We also use the FREE AIM service which the kids mainly use because they can IM their friends.

If you just surf the net and don't need chatrooms and stuff then you should look into Netzero.::yes::

We have both RoadRunner(cable modem) and AOL. We get AOL for only $3 month(GM employees), thats why we kept it.
For RoadRunner it is $29 month, because DW is a teacher, we get $10 off the $39 total. So for $32 month we get both RR and AOL.

We have been on RoadRunner for 3 years now and would "NEVER" go back to dial up again.

I have bellsouth.net . It's a excellent. Plus it's dial-up. But i'm dieing to get dsl high speed internet.

Unfortunately you are limited as to DSL providers in your area, In Dallas we have SBC (everyones home telephone company) and COVAD (another place that subs from SBC). Covad will do some things that SBC won't, the have co located equipment.

What I am saying is that you might be stuck as to your actual provider.

As far as what we have, I have a Business DSL line (I pay $200/month for)

I would contact Mind Spring, I used to use them, they used Covad and were willing to make the extra effort for me.

Net Zero, is another good one that is cheap.

I would also try Directtv
(Internet Service#1-866-819-0166)
(New Service #1-888-238-7177) they have a Satellite link that was reasonable.
(I just called, it is $59.99 a month; it is a little more expensive than what you have...Sorry)

We went with cable a few years ago and I was paying for AOL too. Last spring I called AOL and found out I could get AOL email account, (keep screen names) for $2.95 a month. Great money saver.

I switched from dial up (17.95 per month) to Cable on Tuesday (29.95 for 6 months, then 49.95) I would NEVER go back!

We just went back to Comcast High speed...I missed it too much. We pay 29.95 for the first three months and then 42.95 there after. We had peoplepc for a dial up service and never once did have a complaint. Never got knocked off line, never got a busy signal. It was just too slow fro me after having the cable modem. We paid 9.95 a month for the peoplepc account.

I have ComCast cable modem. I think it costs about $50/month. I don't care...it's worth it. Don't tell them I said that, I don't want to pay more ;)

Karen,

Do you have that DSL price under a contract? Because Verizon just lowered their DSL prices to $34.95 a month. New users get the first month free, then $29.95 a month for 3 months, then $34.99 a month. I know all of this because I am seriously thinking of getting the DSL.

Also when you have another ISP, then you can use AOL for less, it is called "using your own provider" or something like that. My friend does that - she also has Adelphia Cable. I think that she pays maybe $10 a month for her AOL.

Also, that same friend has several computers networked and had somehow figured out how to have more than one person on AOL at the same time under 2 different screen names. I have NO IDEA how though.

:)

MSN DSL through Qwest. $35/mo. Had dial up for many years; I don't know how we suffered through the dial up that long! I much prefer DSL! Very happy.

Earthlink dial-up for $19.95 a month - they just came up with "earthlink accelerator" which increases the speed 3.5 to 4.0 times faster. I'm only on the computer at home an hour or so a day, so just can't justify the additional cost for DSL -- I have it at work and honestly sometimes my home computer is just as fast.

We are looking into the SWB thing . We bought a Gateway computer last year and they gave us one free year of AOL . the year is up so now I must rid myself of the one who does me wrong ........ AOL.....

Wishing everyone a Tagged night

We have cable and pay $30 for regular speed. (high speed is $20 more:eek: ) It's OK most of the time. Certainly beats our old dial up service!!

We have InsightBB (high-speed cable modem). Only pay $8 per month since I work part-time for the cable company!

WE have a high speed cable modem through Mediacom. I think it is about $40 additional to our cable bill. When we move into the new log house, we will not have access to cable, but we WILL have access to DSL, so that will be what we do then.

I pay $40/month for DSL through my local phone company. I am very happy with it. I would never go back to dial up.
