Who is taking walkie talkies??

First off: Walkie Talkies in Disney= Disaster awating to occur!! The resons behind this is because there are only a certain amount of stations and you will get the same line as more the 1 family.
Secondly: Walkie Talkies can interfer with some other peopel and you might not get the message clear.

My suggestion: Buy cell phones. I do not know how many people are in your party but you can buy T-mobile To Go phones from $45 on up and you can put how much you want on it.

I am not trying to bash on you or anything this is just my advice! I hope that you have a good time! and 12.00 is a great deal!!

We've used walkie talkies for years, long before they were widely used at Disney. Yes it can be frustrating to get someone else on your line, but it's never been a "disaster". We've never had more than one family on our line, and we've usually been able to find a frequency that was free. We have fun code names so it is pretty easy to know we've got the right person. Plus with the newer walkie talkies they have so many channels that it's not nearly the problem it once was.

I agree with this...I haven't been to Disney yet but I have walkie talkies and they are the 10 mile ones...sometimes my 111/2 year old son doesn't like to run an errand with me so if it is just up the road I will take one with me and unfortunately the farther away you get the worse the reception...I didn't like this at all...lots of static and interferance...had to repeat yourself alot of times too. I just put my cell # into the memory on my home phone and now if he needs me he can call my cell. He knows the rules of not answering the door...AT ALL...and when he answers the phone, if it isn't me, daddy or is sister, he is to hang up immediately. I know 11 is young to let home alone even for a few minutes but I think you have to start getting them responsible at some age. My daughter took the babysitting course at this age and was babysitting at age 12, so he isn't that far ahead of giving kids alittle leadway. He is a good kid and while I am gone he just watches TV, plays on the computer, or plays Nintendo. I'm gone 30 mins tops!

Anyways...back to the walkie talkies, I am still bringing them with me for the hotel...never know what I might want them for...better to bring them then leave them behind and want them.

Just my 2 cents here!

I agree with the first response. Every single channel we were on had other people on it. I would just go with cell phones.

We will be taking ours. We only have 1 cell phone and I am not about to spend at least $50. plus for each person to have phones for a week! With the radios everyone can have one, you don't need to dial any numbers and if they get lost oe ruined by getting wet(my goofy sister) it's no big deal. Also as soon as you push the button you hear it so if it was really an emergency and your child paniced all they need to do is push it not try to dial.

We used ours at Easter 2 yrs ago in MK when it was so crowded they closed the park and we had no problem only 1 time all week was anyone on our frequency.
We also have a back-up code to change to if needed - use the youngest's birthdate so he can remember he's 7- but have only had to do that once and that was at an airshow not Disney. Take them they really save time when you split up. We found it helpful if my DH ran to get fastpasses and found a small standby line to call and say I got the passes but come over and ride it is only a 10 minute line.

We used friends walkie's last fall...it was great, but we used them sparingly. My wife and I split the group, she would take our 2 year old to Fantasyland and I took the boys to Splash or Space Mtn.

We would give each other a specific time window to turn on the walkies to conserve the batteries...

There were always people on the line but it wasn't really a big deal.

Cell phones for us was not an option...as a Canadian our charges for calling each other in FLA. were going to be astromonical! And if you left your phone on you had to pay roaming charges as well...way too much $$.

If you have a plan that doesn't charge a roaming fee, and your long distance charge is reasonable...cell phones are fine...if not use the walkies!! :thumbsup2

To the OP I don't mean to burst your bubble but walkie talkies do not work that good in WDW. It's better to have them than to have nothing at all. Just be warned that all day long you will constantly hear other peoples conversation. We used them on our last trip. For our upcoming trip we are on the Cingular Family Plan so calling each other is no charge. Feel good that you got such a bargin. If they don't work out so well for you on vacation at least your children will have fun playing with them.
