Who is going to WDW for the first time?

DH & I are going in December! I was there many, many years ago and DH has never been. He cannot understand why I am planning all the time. He asked the other night..."and the whole planning thing is supposed to be fun?" My reply "In order to have a Magical time, planning is a necessity!" He doesn't really want to go, but I know once he's there it will be a whole different story! Oh yeah, this will be his very first time flying too....and he's in his 40's. Boy, I have my hands full

This sounds like us a couple of years ago-- I was the one that planned everything-- made the reservations, booked the flight, bought tickets, made Pses, arranged the towncar-- Nikkie just showed up and enjoyed it. Actually, come to think of it, it still works like that now. I do get input from her about what she wants to do, but she lets me handle all the planning-- of course, she knows I truly enjoy planning like crazy.

This will be the very FIRST time me and DD have EVER been to WDW. I remember sitting in front of the TV on Sunday's when I was 5 or 6 yrs old watching the Wonderful World of Disney on TV and when Tink would fly over the castle thinking-I just HAVE to go there sometime. My dear Mom - who passed away 7 yrs ago at the young age of 52 - would be on the floor with the 6 of us and tell me "one day you will get there Princess" and she would have this really sad face and you just know it tore her up they couldn't afford to take us.
Fast forward 30 some odd yrs and I will be taking my miracle baby in December for our very first trip to WDW!DH has been once about 12 yrs ago and hasn't a clue why this means so much to me. DD will only be 20 months when we go, and I know she won't remember most of it, but in a way I feel like I am taking my Mom along with us...........

Its my first trip to WDW in a couple of weeks. I have been Disneyland Paris a couple of times so i'll be interseted to see how it compares. I think the whole thing will work better in the US than France. The CMs in Paris dont seem to really dig the whole Disney vibe and I found they can be quiet rude and sullen. I also got mugged at DP and Disney werent too bothered so that kinda sucked.

MY first trip was an amazing, unbeleivable emotional mess, hadn' a clue when we got there, hadn't done any planning or even read up much about it. Just 'winged' it but boy, was it AMAZING now enjoy the planning just as much as the hol but the first time is definately the best.

This will be the 1st time w/ my 2 children - my DH & i were there 15 years ago before we were married & cannot remember a thing because we aimlessly walked around all day without a plan. I am making sure that does not happen this time. Thank you for the DIS boards. I am so much more prepared!!!

It will be the first time for my family in 322 days. DH and kids have a bet on when I will cry. The planning is so fun, and the kids call me the Disney Drill Sargent.

DH and I are taking our DGS in December. This will be the first time for al of us. I've been wanting to go to WDW for years but couldn't talk DH into it,so I just kept lurking on these boards soaking up the info and wishing. One day, out of the blue, he says, "You've been wanting this for a while, why don't we go to Disney?". Then he suggests taking DGS with us. Knock me over with a feather, but you don't have tell me twice! I went out and bought the UG and another guidebook (I can't remember the name, but it was just one big ad for WDW with no real or valuable info) and I've been planning ever since. DH teases me and calls me Minnie, but he doesn't understand the importance of planning. I won't know until next August the exact dates we get to go. I'm a teacher and I can't put in for personal days for next school year until then. I'm going to try to beat the Christmas vacation crowds. Wish me luck.

I'm helping my sister and her family plan their first trip. She and her husband, two boys and my mom are going in late May. Helping someone else plan their trip is quite fun. I didn't think I was going to go this year because my son $tarts college in the fall, but my SIL called and said it wouldn't be fun to go without us so they are springing for 5 nights at Yacht Club!

I have been to WDW once in 1991 when I was 17. We are taking our three kids (11, 6, and 2) for the first time in July and I cannot wait to see their faces (it's a secret )

Oh no reason to cry and I am sorry! My mom was a very very special lady and I see my mom so much in Katie. We never had much growing up and the thought of ever going to WDW was impossible for Mommy to even phathom.The 5th of us, Mark, was born with neuroblastoma (brain cancer)and 30 yrs ago it was fatal, but the 3 yrs he lived impacted all of our lives financially and emotionally. My folks were very proud and they spent the next 15 yrs or so paying his medical bills and supporting the rest of us. Mommy was a SAHM and wouldnt dream of going to work and my Dad would have been ashamed if she had, so our vacations usually amounted to visits to the lake 15 miles away. Don't get me wrong, we had little, but I think I had the best childhood!
Sunday nights were always spent with the 8 of us on the floor watching the Wonderful World of Disney and I remember me and my sisters wanting to go live it that castle, and when they would play the music Mommy would sing the song.........so Disney kinda was part of my dreams going up.
My Mom never saw my daughter, and Katie is named after her. In a way I feel like I am taking my Mom-because I SWEAR I see my mother looking at my thru those eyes----so its more of a celebration of Mom and Daughter than a sad story.........sorry to bore you all!

This is our first trip also. Well, my wife was there when she was a little kid, but our kids and I have never been. I grew up going to Disneyland at least once every few years and I've taken my own kids to DL 3 times. Since we are in Oregon, our DL trips have always been driving trips and we never thought we'd be able to afford a WDW trip. But we got a nice tax refund this year and realized that we could do it.
I can't wait.

Katie's mom, your story is so similar to mine! I am one of six kids, and my mother always wanted to take us to disney, but we could never afford it. I too remember watching the wonderful world of Disney as a child and wishing we could go there. My mother passed away at 47 from lung cancer. Although it has been 15 years, it seems like yesterday in so many ways. In exactly 3 weeks my two DD's 4 and 6, DH and myself are going for our very first trip! I have planned it for over a year, and I really hope I can keep my emotions in check. I can't wait to see their sweet faces when they see the castle for the first time!

I went as a young teen the first summer WDW was open - which, of course, was just MK. We were there one day - we went to the luau - I wonder how my parents knew to make PS (or whatever they were called back then.) Haven't been back since.

Our family went to DL in 2003. DLP in 2004. WDW in about 48 days!!!

First trip ever May 10-14th. Ive been planning for 9 years! And everything has always stopped us from going. We finally found a window of 5 days. The resort I wanted was already full and all the ressies for Cindys lunch and dinner are already taken. But I am smiling cause I am finally going to get to the WORLD!!! We'll be at POP.

I am so excited that I am looking into a surprise 3 night cruise for my family in nov 2005.

Oh I could tell that from your story - but I am a huge sap and got all emotional over all of it
