We tried for several months to get President's Week at FtW. The best we got was a site beginning Tuesday. So we are "forced" to stay the first 2 nights in Animal Kingdom Lodge
Looking forward to visiting in February. Have heard it is very busy. Obviously since FtW was booked up President's weekend, it must be.
I also heard that people come that weekend not only for Disney, but also for NASCAR in Daytona that same weekend. Some campers use FtW as their base for the races.
Hey I am willing to suffer 2 days in AKL, I guess.

does that mean your camper will be in the AKL parking lot? Sorry, I could not resist! I would still keep trying and still go there and ask in person. I was told that April 8 to 15 was booked solid, but managed to book it yesterday! I originally had reservations for the cabins, added a night to the campsite and still managed to save $775.00!
Hi campincarters, there are going to be lots of carters in Fort wilderness because our last name is carter also.We have a grandgathering of 4 parties of carters.

Yes our RV will be parked at AKL. Since it is a Class B Van Camper it fits into a conventional parking spot without a problem. I have used it to commute to work a few times when our car is in for service or the wife and I need to go our separate ways for work. I wouldn't use it everyday because of the gas mileage, but certainly it could be.
We are trying to get more days at FtW. However its reaching the time when we need to face up to a split AKL / FtW vacation since we need to pack a suitcase in addition to the RV. It forces some trade offs from our normal WDW / FtW vacations. We have to reserve a kennel for the dog since we can't take him this trip. We also can't bring our own golf cart / Gem Car with us. BUT we will get much better gas mileage not towing the trailer and should be able to make better time too. We will spend more on lodging, but the trade off is not buying park passes.
I am just wondering if the valet parking CMs at AKL will be able to handle parking the RV?
Just wanted to let you know our experience with valet parking and CMs.
We traveled cross-country in our class A motorhome in 2004. I of course had to get a trip to Disneyland included in our plans, so we had to "suffer" staying at the Grand Califorinian Hotel for a couple of nights. (There are no campgrounds in close proximity to DL) You should have seen the eyes of the CM's when we pulled up to the valet area. We unloaded our overnight bags and the CM then followed my DH in the Motorhome to their remote parking area. It worked out fine. They even took me back to the motorhome when it turned out that I forgot my contact lens solution and gift shop didn't have any. We felt more comfortable having DH drive the Motorhome.
