I've been away from the boards for a while due to random business :laundy: but wanted to connect with others who might be running next weekend at Marine Corps.

We will be down there doing the kids races on Sat and the full on Sunday

<-----

Urban Dare on Saturday (Amazing Race type scavenger hunt/obstacle course throughout the city) and the full Sunday.

I leave DC Saturday to head home after we get the new Nike store opened in Georgetown. Ran Army 10 miler yesterday. Wish I would have planned better. Good luck to all those running. Hope to see you at the new DC Nike Women's Half in April Can't wait to come back for it.

I wish I were! I was supposed to run the half last year but ended up being away, and I'm away now. Good luck to all who are running!!

I will but I have to admit that I am a little nervous about the forecast weather reports. I have never run in the rain that long and the wind gust they are projecting for the race are between 10 and 30 mph.

Stay safe guys and try to stay dry.

Sending up prayers for the storm to be slower than they are forcasting and the rain and wind to be non existent for the race.

I will be doing a 10K race saturday in the rain but here in the Pacific Northwet we are used to this and don't have the wicked winds attached.

We got lucky with the slow moving hurricane and only had to deal with some occasional wind gust. It was worst towards the end of the race when the wind really starting picking up. I am so proud of myself for completing this race it was definitely something on my bucket list. I look forward to doing it next year with my friends.

Great job! :thumbsup2 It definitely got colder as the morning went on and after Mile 15, I was over the gusts of wind. But, it was a great race, with Marines everywhere you looked! :) I like the snack box contents that we had at the end better than the choices that Disney goes with. It was pretty good and went together a bit better. I really can't think of one thing that the race needed to improve...maybe more cashiers at the Expo. That line was long, but I met a lot of interesting people waiting so it made the time go by fast. We were definitely in great company...so many first-timers, and so many more running for something more than just themselves. Not sure if I will do it again next year yet, but I highly recommend it.

I have to agree with you that it did get cooler as the day progressed. I too met some wonderful people that where supportive and encouraging.

If I had to suggestion some improvements or changes I would say that at the expo (I went on Saturday) a lot of sizes for clothing where sold out with the exception of XXL or XS. I also thought we should have received a tech running shirt instead of a cotton running shirt. I did like the design but the shirt.

I hadn't orginally planned on participating in this race next year but since my friends had to defer from this year as a result of injuries I really would like to run with them.

The race was also very emotional for me for several reasons. I have never been to Washington DC so seeing all the monuments/memorials was inspiring; being a former Marine this race had special meaning for me; looking up at the Iwo Jima Memorial at the end of the race made me cry; and at times during the race reading posters of those fallen Marines and seeing shirts and signs of fellow runners who where running for someone who had passed really brought some deep emotions to the surface.

That is a bummer about the shirts. I have so many tech shirts, that they end up getting donated now, so it was nice to have a regular shirt with long sleeves now that the temperatures have started to drop. But, I can see the disappointment as most races (especially large ones) have tech shirts. I don't see how one person couldn't get emotional during that race at some points. I was so inspired by the Achilles Athletes staying at my hotel, and it really brought home the point that so many sacrifices have been made for all of us by those who serve and have served our country. To see them on the course made me so proud.

What an amazing way to visit DC for the first time. It is definitely something you will treasure forever. I was pretty much numb by Iwo Jima, and was so focused on beating the bridge that I asked a spectator if this was the bridge every one we crossed and when we finally got across it with plenty of time to spare, it was such a relief. A big part of me wants to do this again next year so that I can focus more on the surroundings and hopefully better weather. I didn't bring my camera because I thought it would rain. Live and learn.
