Who is addicted to vinylmation?

I admit that I'm totally a secret Vinylmation addict. Bought one last Feb, and when I went back a couple of days later during my trip they were all sold out GRR!. So with DH out of the pic to reign me in for my solo trip in Oct, intend to go Vinylmation crazy when I'm at the mouse. I've got a small china cabinet that has too much room. And I want to send one to my friend in Aussieland for Christmas.

I may be the only person on the planet but, I just don't "get" the Vinylmation things. Piglet in the shape of Mickey? Sam the Eagle painted on Mickey's body? I have never understood them. I am glad there are people who love them because it is fun to have a collection, but I just don't "get" them. Am I the only one?

I like the ones that are themed like attractions in the parks. A park ride/attraction in the shape of mickey.

There really isn't anything to "get." They are just artsy collectables.

I have a couple of the pins but most of my vinylmation pins were traded away, I think I kept 2 of them. :) I also have 2 figures as do the girls, we resisted until they released the cutesters and we each bought 2. They are super super cute! I also have a purple vm keychain that I love. :)

i had the exact same experience, i saw someone trading and was like ill give this a try, bought 4 of the having a laugh series and got 2 of the same ones, so i traded for some different ones, i was instantly hooked, they are so cool, i wish if you bought a whole box though they would give you a break on the price, but oh well.

P.S. you can also trade at the gift shop in tomorrow land.

I'm with you Disney Dreams. I'm glad they make people happy but I don't get them at all. I guess that's a good thing because the last thing I need is something else to collect and trade. :lmao: I'll stick with my pin obsession.

OK.....I have been hearing a lot about these. I just checked the Disney site link above and they have a VOLLEYBALL figure. I have been coaching and playing volleyball for the last 25 years or so.

Can I buy this in the park? Anyone know? I assume many are in closed packages so you don't know what you get until you open???

You can buy them in the parks and WoD - most gift shops sell them now. Most of them come in 'blind' boxes so you don't know what you're getting - which is part of the fun of collecting them. But the Sports series with the Volleyball one you're talking about actually comes in a 'window' box, so you'll know exactly what you're buying!

The very first time I saw them I didn't "get it" either - but that was several years ago and they were trying to look "tough" or "urban" or something.
Now, I think the ride themed ones and the movie character ones are cute and I LOVE LOVE the Cutesters! :cutie:

They have a few different "Urban" series Vinylmation. I don't really care for those. They just don't seem very "Disney" besides the shape.

You're not the only one. We looked at them this past week and found a Donald Duck one my son would like from the "Make Me Laugh" collection but not being able to see what you're buying makes no sense to me. I think the kids would play with them for a while, but then end up on the floor of their bedrooms. Otherwise, I can only see them as something I would have to dust. No thanks!! I'll stick to my pin collection. :)

no no dreams i dont get it either..
im sure the vinlmation people dont get pin trading .. but yeah i see what you mean and i just dont understand the concept...

There really isn't anything to it. It's just like any type of collectable. Some people collect stamps. Some people collect dolls. Some people collect Vinylmation. Etc. Etc.

I'm the same way. I don't get it. Then again, my friends look at our 100's of pins and mickey ear collection (among other things) and shake their heads, not getting "it" either.

Yes, Vinylmations will probably be worth something some day, just like pins. They discontinue each series after a while.

And like any collectable item (pins included), it's basically worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Just recently I saw a Vinylmation (series 1 Yeti like the one I posted a photo of earlier in this thread) go for $62 on ebay. Not too shabby since it's only a couple years old and they originally cost $10. And earlier this year I saw one sell over around $110.

The trading just started about a month ago, I think it is awesome. My cousin and I are addicted to them, they have so many that are neat.

Before we leave, I need to write down where we can trade so I remember while we're there.

There are a couple in the newest Park Series that I seriously do NOT want and with my luck, I'll end up getting them.

I don't really "get it" either, but DD sure loved doing it! After chatting with a boy while we waited for WoC and hearing his story how he traded his vinylmation all day until he got the epcot one DD had to buy one. She ended up with 3 of them, which I thought was plenty. Can't imagine buying 20 at $10 a pop! LOL!

Many of the stores that sell them have the plastic case of 3 that you can trade. We had a harder time finding the mystery boxes much to DD's disappointment, so before we go next time we'll have to research where to find them.

So, in addition to pin trading, which we didn't do much this trip, we now have vinylmation trading! Disney sure knows how to build excitement in kids over "stuff". :)

We just bought the baseball one at WDW (clear packaging) for our youngest son, and all the sports ones come with a vinylmation junior that is in blind packaging. It was great - he knew he was getting the baseball AND had the fun of opening "junior" one that comes in the box with it. Here's the link to the volleyball one you can purchase online: http://www.disneystore.com/vinylmat...-1-1/2-vinylmation-jr-figure/p/1264571/70998/

All three of our boys love vinylmation - as a reminder of their trip, to display and to play with like action figures (perhaps not what the creators intended - but fun!) The trading makes it a whole new deal - they are more willing to buy now, and having lots of fun with the trading. I even bought a Series 2 keychain to hang from my plaid mickey backpack. (Can't trade those, but I like almost every one in Series 2 - got the donald duck one and love it.) We just returned from WDW yesterday, and this was a big part of our trip.

Would love to hear about additional trading spots at DL so that I can make a list for them for our trip in August!
