Who here uses CM's SBC+ for digital scrapping?

Hello!
I've popped in here a few times mostly because I'm so impressed with your work and with SBC+. Sadly, I'm a Mac user and am patiently waiting for CM to come out with a Mac version. In the meantime, I play around with iScrapbook but admit I'm not getting very far. :confused3

ANyway, I have a generic digital question that I thought you guys might be able to answer. I'd like to make my daughter's graduation open house invites. Can I use a scrapbook program to do it? How would you go about such a project? Any info greatly appreciated!:thumbsup2

I use SBC+ on a Mac and so does Dawn Oldham, CM's resident digital guru.

I have a feeling that since she is so successful at it there is not much hope for a native Mac version. I talked to her about it last week and she seemed to think the current situation was working out fine.

I did tell her that I was still very interested in a native version.

She runs windows using VM Fusion. I use Parallels but think VM Fusion is the way to go (I'm a pre-VM Fustion, Parallels user.)

Never heard of VM Fusion. I looked at Dawn's website. It looks like we Mac users have to spend a lot more to use SBC+. Oh well. Sounds like VM Fusion is the best option.

How do you get your iPhotos (and other things you might have) from your Mac to the PC side? I am so PC-challenged!

I recently just purchased a new MacBook. When I bought the computer I also bought VMFusion, because I knew I wanted to run SBC+. Can you tell me what version of Windows you/Dawn have installed. I need to purchase a Windows program, and I would like to know what others are using. Thanks.

I would absolutely buy XP - Vista is just too resource intensive. If you are going to run Vista you'll need at least 4GB of RAM. I run XP on 2GB and there are times it is slow but I also don't have a lot alloted to my Windows partition.

I use a clunky drop and drag method so I can still use iPhoto. Basically everything goes into iPhoto and then the pics I want to use are dragged onto my Mac desktop. Then I move them to a folder on the Windows desktop and import into SBC+. It is NOT ideal at all! It can be time consuming but now that I've done several books I'm used to it so I'm not terribly slow.

Dawn Oldham uses Memory Manager on her Windows side and stores photos there. She is using a Mac Book Pro with a 500 GB hard drive and has most of that allotted to her Windows partition.

When this thread first started, I had only done storybooks with CM with the free program. Recently I got the recipe digi kit and have been working on getting all my favorite recipes done, print them out and put them into my 8 1/2 x 11 recipe book. It was a nice project to start using SB+ with.

I've now read thru all these posts which I feel enables me to understand more than just the basics. The layouts posted are just gorgeous. My next step will try using some of the great templates posted though I am thinking, Jan, we need to get together again! For now I think I am sticking with the CM kits. Off to order the Wishes and Dream CM digi kit. That is gorgeous. Cottage Garden is really pretty too.

You name it - time and place. I'll be there. :teeth: Of course, I won't tell my DH that I'm running away... :lmao:

I'll send you a pm tomorrow...

Thanks RadioNate. I had forgotten about Vista using so much memory. I will have to put XP on the list.

Where can I find that memory manager upgrade for $9.95? I think quiltymom mentioned it, and then when I started Storybook today there was a link in the "update" section, but it didn't lead to the download. :confused3 Have any of you gotten your hands on it yet? I'm excited about the possibility of memory manager being linked to storybook!

I checked online with Dell directly if my laptop could be updated. There is a chat section, I went there. The rep told me I could install two 1 G memory so I ordered those, $17.99 ea. Now to see if I can install it on my own. LOL

It is a May release so it should be there tomorrow!

Ok, I'm jumping in here! I am a paper-scrapper (with piles and piles of supplies to prove it ;)) and probably, I'll continue that--especially for DS's books. But, I think I'd like to try the digi (through SBC+) for maybe our family albums or just some smaller albums. I saw the download is $59.95. Here's a really stupid question--can I put it on my PC AND on my laptop or would I need 2 downloads (which probably wouldn't happen!!)?

SIOH, you can only put the program on one 'puter. I have my on my laptop rather than my desk top. I like that option because then when I am at one of my crops or on a business trip, I can work on my digi scrapping. Right now I am sitting on the couch with my laptop, two feet from my desktop but i am going to work on my recipes while DH watches racing.

I actually have two copies of SBC+ - one on my laptop and another one of my old laptop that my 7 year old uses to scrapbook. I have had several customers and a fellow consultant put the program on their external hard drive and run it from there so that they could use it on both their laptop and their desktop. ALL of them have had problems and have had to uninstall and reinstall on just one computer. I am not a computer expert - but I am sure that someone know why it messes up running from the external.
With that being said - I have been able to move SBC+ from one computer to another - but it makes the old one un - upgradable.

So what happens if I get a new computer and want to put it on there?

They will let you transfer the license to another computer. I have done that twice already. Just call Cm customer support and they will help you out!

Question I know you'll have the answer for, ladies~!

What's the easiest way to get my elements that I make in Photoshop into the Storybook CM software? What file type should I save the individual elements as? Gif?

In the interest of full disclosure, I should point out that I don't yet own SBC+ (though I hope to soon), but I do know a little about Photoshop. If you save your file as a PNG-24 (and make sure the Transparency box is checked), I believe your files should work with the CM software. You can do this by clicking "Save for Web" or "Save for Web & Devices" depending on which PS version you have.

If this isn't correct, hopefully one of the experts will step in and let us know.

I have a few questions. If someone could help me out I would really appreciate it!

- How do I use a template? I recently downloaded a template that I want to use. I extracted it and then put it into SBC+. How do I put the paper, embellishments, and photos in the place of the layers?

- I put a tag on a page and wanted to import a photo into the tag so that it would be the same size and have the rounded corners. How do I do that?

- How do I split a photo over 2 pages?

- Is it possible to look and/or work on two pages at once for a 2 page spread?

Thanks so much!
Jen
