I can get SOOOO sleepy during the day. Then, when it comes to bed time, it takes an hour or more to get to sleep- and that is with 2 benadryls.

Who else has a problems going to sleep and what do you do? I have NOT been taking a nap during the day, either. Well, sometimes I do on a Saturday.

I have this problem, which is why I almost never allow myself to take a nap.

I'm going to be in big trouble tonight....I ignored my rule today! ;)

I don't get sleepy during the day.

I have always had a difficult time "turning off my mind" at night, so I can go to sleep. It always takes me one or two hours laying there before I can fall asleep, I take a couple of Benadryl too and it doesn't help.

It's so aggravating, my husband is snoring almost before his head hits the pillow and I lay there staring into the darkness. Sometimes I give up and get up and DIS or vacuum or something instead of just lay there.

I'm the same way -- I can be dead tired all day, and whether or not I take a nap, come about 7 or 8 pm, I wake up so I can't fall alseep until 12 or 1. I usually try to read before bed -- gets me calmed down and more into a mindset of being ready for bed.

    Vaccum...like clean? Oh no. I will NEVER be that desprate :)

I haven't found that Benadryl or tylenol PM are very helpful with ongoing sleep troubles, so if I am having trouble sleeping consistently for more than a few days, because of stress, hormones, or whatever... there are a bunch of things I do to get back on track....
I make sure to get some exercise and fresh air every day....I try to take 2 ten to 15 minute walks outside on break at work...plus 1/2 hour at the gym on the treadmill during the winter or outside at home in nicer weather...it is a challenge to fit it in but it makes a big difference in how I feel and how I sleep! I seem to do OK if I can get the half hour in three times a week or so.
I make sure I have no alcohol or sweets after 6 or 7 pm, and no big dinners after that hour either (which is another challenge).
A cup of Salada Comforttime tea with honey relaxes me...but not TOO close to bedtime..or the full bladder intereferes with sound sleep for me ;) I know, TMI!! LOL
And deep breathing.... or other relaxation techniques that you can do lying in bed have proved helpful...like the progressive relaxation/visualization of muscles from toe to head, etc.
Good luck! Sleep deprivation can sure be horrible!!

I also have a hard time falling asleep. For me, turning on the TV can help some. I watch stuff I've already seen before, like Cosby Show reruns. No news or anything that makes you think.

If that fails, I have a 2 month old baby you can borrow. :teeth:

I used to be this way also. It would take HOURS for me to get to sleep. My solution was to put a cd player next to my bed and I found some cds that have different outside noises on them such as a rainstorm or ocean waves crashing on the beach. I put the cd on repeat and I play this everynight. It has worked wonders for me.It now takes only about 15 minutes for me to fall asleep!!! A lot of stores sell white noise machines but I never liked those because they all sound like static (at least the ones I have tried). My dh also uses it because he works shift work and when he sleeps during the day it helps block out all the noises in the neighborhood. Try this!!

NativeTx - I have the same problem as you. I leave the tv on help me get sleepy.
My husband also snores the second he hits the pillow.
I recorded him recently. He snores lots of diff. tunes, LOL!
When he was about ready to fall asleep one night I played it for him, right in his ear. He said, what is that awful noise?.
He then said, oh no you didn't. He couldn't believe all the weird noises he makes! Nothing wakes him up and everything wakes me up.

15 minutes of gd stretching - start with your toes and stretch and wiggle each part of your body end with a full body stretch - this wiorks for me.

LOL, bumcat. Nothing awakens my husband either.

I am normally the first one asleep at night..but my problem is that at times I have trouble forgetting the day, little problems that seem bigger at night or I do things like add up bills in my head, things like that....So I got some good non medical advice, just DO NOT think when you go to bed. Put yourself in your happy place and do not think things out..sure works for me now. I picture myslef in our favorite hotel and I need sleep as we have a big day in the parks tomorrow..works like a charm, I go to sleep happy then...:D :D :D

Willy, that stuff knocks me on my butt for about 2 days. I just can't handle my Nyquil.:o:teeth:

I have problems sleeping all the time. A hot shower or hot bubble bath helps to relax me. I usually try that, then go to bed and suffer through not sleeping. Sometimes when I get like that, I usually fall asleep about 30 minutes to an hour before my alarm goes off. I've thought about moving my alarm time up so I can go to sleep faster.;)

There is an article in the current Readers Digest about getting a good nights sleep.

Sounds great. But then, I would wake up and realize that I am not getting to go to the parks, get depressed, and want to skip the day :)
