How do you do your hair each day to make it look BIG and FAT? Any tips for super baby fine or thin hair will be appreciated! Products you recommend?

ME!!! I can't tell you how many times I've been told over the years that I have the worst hair anyone can have (fine and thin). I can't do anything as curls never stay. I did have the spiral perm years ago (80's) and that made it appear thick. Spirals are a thing of the past.

My trick now, short with bangs. (bangs to hide the worry lines in my forehead to avoid botox for the forhead :rotfl2:---that is a trick from a doctor when I had botox around the eyes a few years ago)

I just read something on Pinterest by this group of women...all top hair designers, beauty experts...etc...about using dry shampoo in a aerosol....allegedly makes good volume ...the specific one mentioned eludes me...but I think it was with a K...and they said you can also use the ones in a drug store, but be sure its aerosol to use at roots...???

My hair is rather fine, I have found that coloring it adds thickness to it...is it actually thicker?? or is it just that it looks fuller? I dont know exactly but it works....

I have really fine, thin hair and I hate it :sad1:. My hair will do anything I want it to, but the question is will it stay that way if I walk outside? I have the worst hair for rain, humidity or snow. For that reason I keep it long enough to put back in a clip (French twist). I haven't really come across any hair stylists who were able to help me get the best look for my hair type. I do color it (highlights and lowlights) which I know does add texture to the hair. I probably should cut layers in it (just past shoulder length right now) but I am stuck on growing it out so I can have a pony tail. A pathetic, thin pony tail :upsidedow. Now I know why my mom wore wigs a lot when I was a kid, I got this awful hair from her. I tease my hair to get it to look like it has volume, but in turn I have a lot of broken hair on top of my head. I should probably stick with a chin length bob or something like that, but I hate having to wash and style my hair every day and I also have hair that actually crimps and gets bent when I sleep :rotfl:. Have I mentioned I hate my hair :worried:??

Big Sexy Hair products, backcomb your hair, and get foils (color) done. My hair is baby soft and fine and thin.....most products I use just absorb into my hair, but Big Sexy stays.

Have really fine hair
I also have the best hairdresser
She razor cuts it at the roots to make it appear fuller
I also cut in layers
I use mousse and spray that add volume

I have very soft, fine, thin hair. The only blessing is that I have a TON of it so with the right cut, it looks like I've got thick hair!! Until someone feels it.

First off, you have to think about cut. Thin, fine hair works with just a few cuts:

1. Very long, one layer. This will weigh the hair down but since you don't really "do" anything with it, it works. My DD has this and she gets a blunt cut on the ends, versus layer the ends and it appears thicker. You can put a volumizing mousse at the roots and dry upside down for root fullness. The dry shampoo is always a good idea at the roots. You can spray this in after you style.

2. Chin length, graduated "bob" style with severe undercutting. This will provide lift to the hair. In this style, you soft, silky hair is an advantage because it is usually very shiny and this looks great in this style.

3. A shorter/layered cut. Lots of layers. I do this because I'm pushing 50 and, after trying to grow my hair out and having "older" hair, it's just not great in the "hanging" mode. There's lots of volumizing products out that work great on short hair (but tend to gunk up the longer styles).

4. Foil highlights: the lighter the better. Highlights (with bleach versus a color) rough up the hair shaft and make your hair more coarse. This will help your style hold better. Of all the things, this works the best for me.

5. A 3 minute perm!!! I haven't tried this yet but my stylist tells me she does this for some of her fine-haired clients. You do a regular perm but you only leave in about 3 minutes so you don't get a hard curl. You just get some body and a whole lot of texture. Because it's just some body, you can easily blow it out if you want a straight look. If you are getting highlights, you can't do both at the same time.

I have baby fine, thin hair. It collect dirt and oil so much I have to wash it a lot. I use a no collect conditioner and not more than a pea size then rinse a lot. I do this because anything more just weights the hair. Color thickens mine a bit; perm does too and adds movement. You HAVE to find someone who understands and can really cut hair well. A cheap haircut by someone who just can't really cut well is a bad thing for this kind of hair because there is no hiding it.

Nioxin shampoo; blow dry upside down; find a cheap gel with a "10" rate of hold power and then apply only to the roots lightly; use a boar bristle hairbrush; don't wash everyday (yeah, i know, yuck), but only wet your hair and re-style (after all, hairdressers don't want you to come to be styled with squeaky clean hair).

Don't wear hats (I learned long ago, I don't have hat hair); don't get wind blown (or I continue to look wind blown the entire day); use cheap hair spray (cuz you are going to need it forever).

At least we are not alone in our skinny hair struggles...but if I had to be skinny somewhere, did it have to be in my hair??????:confused3

Fine is one thing, but thin is another, and if you don't have much hair, forget going for BIG. Why? Because the minute you step into strong light you will get a halo effect and the outline of your skull will be clearly visible under your teased-up hair.

Most of the time, really fine hair that is thinning doesn't work too well in layers unless it is naturally curly -- if it is straight it ends up lying totally flat on the shape of your head and clinging to your neck.

I've got baby fine hair and major hair loss. What works for me is a blunt cut bob with bangs that I wear turned under at the ends. I color my hair, and I have to limit the color to blondish shades that are fairly close to my skin tone, because if it is darker or lighter the contrast of my scalp showing through is really noticeable.

I wash mine daily because it gets oily and even flatter if I don't; I dry it upside-down and use a tiny dot of shine serum on it, but that's it. It's plain and not really exciting, but it is the only style that hides the baldness.

This is merely a second hand recommendation because my hair is the exact opposite. Ridiculously thick and a ton of it. I mostly try to DE-volumize. My friend has your hair and she swears my Fructis Root booster. Apparently you apply to only the roots then she blow dries it 3/4 of the way upside down, then uses a round boars hair brush to blow dry it the rest of the way.

I do know that color plumps up your hair a little because the hair shaft absorbs some of the chemical.

Oscar Blandi volumizing dry shampoo. Really amazing for fine hair. :thumbsup2

I have horribly thin, fine hair. It is the bane of my existence. I think I've tried every product there was and the only thing that worked at all was to slather my hair in gel, dry it, spray, spray, spray, curl it, and spray some more. It was a total pain, took forever and the result was that my hair looked marginally better than awful.

I wear hair extensions now and I LOVE them - love, love, love them. I know it sounds overly dramatic, but they have truly changed my life. My hair looks fantastic every day and I spend very little time on it.

I LOVED spiral perms! And I'm not too chicken to ask for one again if I decide I need to, fashion be damned! They were a godsend to women like us!

I've read that it roughs up the cuticle of the hair and that makes it appear fuller. I do color on occasion but I've always worried about damaging my hair because it's so delicate.

I just hacked off about a foot of my hair. I grew it out all one length and found I was doing nothing more than putting it in a bun or pony tail every day. Pathetically thin buns and pony tails. It's a chin length bob now and does look a bit fuller. The best it ever looked was when it was in lots of short/medium layers. It was fabulous but took a lot of time and since I have fibromyalgia, holding my arms up that long to style it was just too painful to keep doing.

THIS! It's been the BIGGEST challenge. I always ask at a salon for someone who's great with baby fine hair. I NEVER get one.

That's because I don't think there is anyone great with baby fine hair. I quit going to the salon because there was no point. No matter what they did, my hair looked awful. And let's face it, they are stylists, not magicians. They can't make something out of nothing. I decided to save the money and do it myself. I usually wore it in an updo (up-dos are fantastic for camoflauging thinness), or with clip-in extensions, so it didn't matter if it wasn't perfectly straight along the bottom.

Root lifters can help, too, especially if you dont wear your hair long. My problem was that I don't like short hair and refused to let them cut it above shoulder length. Admittedly, thin hair looks especially awful long, but I just couldn't go short - though like I said earlier, I rarely wore it down without a clip-in piece.

There can be -- what I do is to look for a stylist who has this sort of hair, too. If she can make her own look decent, then there is hope for me.

I have baby fine, thin hair, but quite a bit of it. It has NO body at all and only looks decent if I keep it shorter than shoulder length...once it hits my shoulder, it looks stringy and messy. I do occasionally get fired up to grow it out, then keep it in a twist or ponytail everyday.:( Last time I grew it out I had a family gathering where my picture was taken quite a few times and I realized that my ponytail was awful, so I've kept it short since then.

I use a volumizing shampoo, color it every 2 months, and only condition it once a week...but the key for me is to keep it short.

I use Living Proof, Full Thickening Cream and LOVE IT. I have the thinnest hair and hardly any of it. When I use this, it makes all of the difference in the world... it truly has changed the way my hair looks!

I have thin and fine hair. I also have to wash/condition it every day or it looks like "homeless" hair. I don't know how else to describe it. It frizzes, snarls, sticks up in puffs, and brushing-combing doesn't do anything to it.

I also have wavy hair. Go figure. If I didn't spend time on my bangs each morning, they look like spider legs.

So, I dry it straight evey day. It doesn't take longer than 5-7 minutes because it is so fine and thin.

I wear it straight with bangs. If a wind comes up, all bets are off and I will have flyaway hair the rest of the day.

All thickeners tend to make my hair feel dirty so I gave up.

My hair is baby fine and sections of it are thinner than others. It's super annoying.

Big Sexy Hair Powder Play has changed my life. Not even kidding. It's amazing.

When I want even more oomph, I use Big Sexy Hair's What A Tease...Backcomb in a Bottle. Also, amazing.
