I want to take the kids to a Broadway Show. I love Kristin Chenowith (sp?). Has anyone seen this show? Are tickets impossible to get?

is this based on the book of the same name about the Wicked Witch of the West. I just bought it for my college dd. Looks lkind of cool.

I haven't seen the play, but the book is really good! Little bit of sex, though - don't know how they handle that in the play.

It's amazing!!! We live right outside of NYC so are able to see more shows than many people get and chance to ............. and this is our favorite! My ten-year-old DD was absolutely enchanted. So, that's the good news. The bad news is that it is difficult to get tickets for decent seats and there are few discounts around because of its' popularity. That being said, if you get a chance to see it then definitely go for it!

LOL Kallison....I thought your post said "Who has BEEN wicked?" :teeth: and I was already to post a reply to that!

I've seen it! Fun show. A bit wordy in the middle but the premise is great and the show itself is charming.

I don't know about kids, though. Not for content but more for wordiness...

Tickets are tough to get.

my girls are 11 and 13 and loved the show. it's this year's hot show, so tickets are hard to come by. if you've read the book, you'll notice a few differences in the plot twists, etc. but it was good to see Joel Grey dancing on Broadway again.

We did!!! Saw it in January for my daughters birthday and we all loved it.
Even my husband who hates most musicals loved this one.
He even mentioned going back.

I can't wait for this one to take to the road! I have been a fan of Gregory Maguire for a number of years now. He writes awesome books! As soon as spring break rolls around I'm going to pick up "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" for a read. I love the leads in this show, and I've seen a couple of numbers from it on tv. It's times like this when I hate being so far from NYC!

Kristin Chenowith is good, but Idina Menzel who plays Elphaba is AMAZING. This show is mainly about the friendship between Glinda the Good witch and Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West. It is about acceptance, loyalty, and love. Yes there is a bit of sex in it, but handled in a modest and tasteful way. The music is clever and moving and you will find yourself singing as you leave. It is full of clever plays on words and if you listen carefully you will pick up a lot of them. This play is NOT about Dorothy. she is only mentioned. What you will find out is why all the other characters finally appeared in " The Wizard of Oz." Essentially this show is a prequel to Oz.

One thing to note, this is what I would call a "dark" show.....although it is cheery in parts it does deal with some topics that may be hard for young children to understand. I would recommend this show for children no younger than 9.

We have tickets to see this in July!!!

Thanks so much for the information.... I'm really excited about seeing this now- :hyper:

I saw Wicked back in November shortly after it opened. Awesome musical!! I love the Wizard of Oz, so naturally I would love this!

I am going to try to get in the ticket lottery soon so I can see it again. www.broadwaybox.com offers discount codes for Wicked (and other Broadway shows as well).

While I liked the show a lot, I think that Idina Menzel made the show for me. I honestly do not think that I would have enjoyed it nearly so well without her performance.

We loved this show. It is much "lighter than the book. My DS8 loved it as did my DS16. It is wonderfully clever and the music is delightful. If you can fine discounts, that's great, but it is definately one show worth the full price.

We saw it in February and loved it. We didn't have problems getting fairly decent seats (center stage and 1/2 way back) about 1 month ahead of time.

A word of caution: if you've read the book, the show's story will seem somewhat dissapointing as when they say "based" on, they interpret that to be title, names of characters and the whole wizard of oz thing. I very much reccomend reading the book, but maybe after so you don't spend the whole time thinking "that's not what happens!"

Every time I see that thread I think it says...Who has BEEN Wicked? :earseek: :teeth: That sounds much more fun. :teeth:
