if you have how do you go about seeing if it is for real? Can you recomend any ? :thumbsup2

The unofficial guide to Disney 2007 recommended them if that helps! That is who we are searching through right now. We stayed at the Poly the last two years and want to see some of Orlando's other attractions this year.

In the areas we've rented a house/condo/townhome through an individual owner (such as through VRBO), I've been able to verify ownership through the property tax site: http://ira.property-appraiser.org/ This is for Osceola county and has included Kissimmee neighborhoods/resorts such as Windsor Palms, Emerald Island, and Formosa Gardens Neighborhoods. I assume that there would be a similar website for different areas.

I also ask who is used for the local management company and often can find the place on the mgmt company web site.

Between seeing that the person I'm working with actually owns the place on the property tax web site and verifying that that I can find their mgmt company, I've felt confident with my rentals and have never had any trouble.

Good luck!

We've rented through VRBO a couple of times and we do the same as Mareed. Just look them up to see if they own the property and check out the management company. Haven't had any problems so far. Will be in Windsor Hills at the end of next week and hopefully everything will work out this time also. There's also an appraisal site for Polk county if you're staying in Davenport or out on 27.

I am sure if you ask the owners for information on thier Management Company, and as many questions as you can think of you will find that there are more owners that are real then the one's that are not out there.
I have never had someone ask too many questions of if the home is really there but I sure would not have a problem answering any questions that they have to make them feel more comfortable about booking our home.

I have to say I would not give my information out as an owner unless we were under contract.

I also have something to lose. If I gave out all of this information first off many would have access to exact street and number and our availability calendar.

I know we are in a gated community but anything can happen. I do answer all questions about our home and do give out our man/co to verify before contracts are done.

Not sure if that helps at all but do understand we both you as the rentor and I as the owner have a lot at stake. I have not taken final payment just a lease agreement and a $300.00 deposit and you get the information and can verify all you need with the county tax collector.

We have rented through vrbo many times. In the Orlando area we have used it 3 times for homes in Windsor Palms and very recently in Windsor Hills. We have also used it for rentals in New England where we live.

You will find many posters here have used vrbo sucessfully.

As a homeowner there are some sites that do require verification from home owers every 6 months.
www.onlinefloridavillas.com, www.orlandovillas.com
VRBO is a good site and I do not remember what verification that they ask for from the owners.
I do not give out addresses etc. until I have booking forms and deposits for security reasons as well on our end. But I have not had anyone really question if I truly owned the home.

We are renting at Emerald Island for the third time this January, each time with houses and townhouses found through VRBO. I was able to verify each place before sending in a deposit with a little checking. As mentioned above, the public tax records are fairly easy to verify. If nothing else, just communicate with the owner. If I didn't get a good vibe from someone, I just moved on to a different house.

I love staying at EI.....it's close by, and our family is not the "two beds, one bath, and four walls" kinda group. It really works out well for us, and we think it is an excellent value. Have fun! :goodvibes

My big issue is without a good address - how can we check to see exactly where the house is and if it is a suitable distance to The World? Most owners seem to say 'within minutes' or 'approximately 12 minutes' - which could mean 12 minutes at 2 a.m. but 40 in rush hour.

The tax records will have the address on them so all you need is a name and a bit of patience if it is a common one .

Well, as long as you know the name of the development, a good map will give you a really good idea, give or take a minute or so to get to the house within the development itself.

www.mapquest.com does directions From and To now...I would just stick in the name of the community, whether it's in Davenport, Kissimmee or Clermont, and then World Center Drive, Lake Buena Vista..

Bingo! :thumbsup2

HTH!!

:sunny:

I've used it with excellent results. I limit myself to properties that accept credit cards (as protection against any type of problems).
