Taking ds7 for his 8th birthday doing 3day Disney cruise and 6night stay at POFQ. Was wondering about timing on the transition day. We have a dinner adr at Boma on that transition day. Will we be able to squeeze some park time in before? After will probably be kind of tough since the trip is in January. Thoughts?

Oh I despise autocorrect. Has to fix my abbreviations. It's a WDW stay, not a wide stay. Duh

You will most likely be off the boat by 9 a.m. or maybe a little later. We usually get off the boat once we are allowed to (or we walk our luggage off when they start the debarkation), so i do not know how long you can really stay on the boat. WDW is about an hour (maybe slightly longer) bus ride from the cruise port. Depending on the stops that the DCL bus makes, you could be the last hotel to stop or the first. That can add a potential 30-60 minutes to your bus ride. That is also if you are taking DCL busses. So, you could possibly be at WDW by 10:30-11 a.m. I would probably choose a park like EPCOT to go to on that day since it's a park that can be enjoyed by walking around even if it is crowded.

You could still get several things done before going to Boma for dinner. You could possibly have time to go back to the park after dinner depending on what time your reservation is.

It really depends on if the extra money is worth it to you to spend for the extra time in the parks. Another option could be to visit Disney Springs and explorer the other resorts.

Have a great trip!

Our preferred method for debarkation for DCL when we want some park time after the cruise is to rent a car from Alamo and drop the car off at the Alamo location at the Swan and Dolphin. Do express walk off and you'll be one of the first few off the ship. You'll be at Alamo within 20 minutes of walking off the boat.

From there you can take the car rental to the park of your choice, then go drop off luggage and family to your room, drop the car off over at the Dolphin and take WDW transportation from Hollywood Studios back to your resort.

If you do direct transportation and drive your own car (rental or not) you can be in the parks before 10 am without little issue.

Yes, absolutely. As others have said, you will be off the ship in the early morning and it takes about 1 1/2 to get to WDW from Port Canaveral. If you want to get off the boat quickly and you travel lightly, the quickest thing to do is to not leave your luggage outside the night before and simply walk off with your luggage in the morning. If you are willing to splurge, hire a private car service to take you to your resort. We did this last August and, even with a leisurely morning on the boat (we didn't go to our assigned breakfast), we were at our WDW resort by 10:30 am. If you get off earlier, of course, you will be at WDW earlier as well.

Thanks folks! My thinking was to try to score a mid afternoon do for FoP if possible. I'll try.

Do you mean a fastpass? If you want to get a fastpass for FoP for your first day of your WDW vacation, that is going to be very difficult for you to do. Currently, people are having trouble getting a fastpass for FoP unless you have a trip booked longer than 4 days (which you do).

Autocorrect again! Yes, FP. I know it's hard, but it is just two of us at that point. I'm going to try anyway. If I can't get FoP FP then I'll let the boy decide what he wants to do that day as we're planning AK for later in the trip when the rest of the family comes down to meet us. We'll have enough time apparently to hit up a park before dinner, so I'll let him choose which one.

Enjoy your trip. It sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun!

If you aren't able to get a FoP FP, I will say the stand-by queue is great to go through at least once. Also, in the afternoon, the attraction has averaged 60-90 minute wait times in the afternoon.

We might just do that. It really depends on when we get to our resort and where the boy thinks he'll want to go. Thanks for the input!
