I am doing a family reunion magical gathering for summer 2006 (I know its a while a way, but the proprosal is due in Jan 2005). Now, I've called Disney and I've gotten "quotes" for the rooms and 2 contracts to look at, but I was wondering if anyone here has done a 10++ magical gathering.

Contract 1 is like a convention. You choose a specific hotel and book there and I'd be in charge of the tickets, meal vouchers, etc. All activities are done at that specific resort.

Contract 2 is set up like the magical gatherings. The families choose from many Disney Resorts (as long as that Saturday night is one of those nights) at exceptionally low prices. Then we as a family can choose a special character Breakfast and a special dinner/fireworks viewing dinner. We also get special tickets, etc. And we would get to ride and view specific rides together at specific times.

I like the idea of staying at one resort together, but the 2nd contract gives the family to choose a resort based off of what they can afford. We also get to do stuff together in the parks together instead of in a banquet room.

I am anticipating at least 50 rooms, if not many many more!!!! Who else has done this. I'm looking for any advise/suggestions. Thank you in advance!!!

I haven't done this and don't know anyone that has.
But, my thought on this, is that the second contract makes more sense in that there is more flexibility for the family members. I can't imagine everyone in an extended family being able to afford the same things as each other. This second contract also sounds harder to manage (for you). Good luck with this. I can't imagine that many families being able to get together at the same time! Amazing.

We have family reunions every year. They are always the 2nd to last weekend in July. Its been that way for at least 10 years. We've done Vegas (100+ people), California, Chicago, Ohio, St. Louis, and a few others I can't remember. They are pretty successful. But last year (St. Louis family turn to throw it) it was boring. So I'm taking charge, and since I'm a Disney nut and so many families wanted to go - well - this is their excuse.

I'm looking forward to it!!! - With Las Vegas being the most successful one (and not family friendly for me - most of the adults were gambling not socializing wo) I think WDW is the perfect place that would draw young and mature (older) to Disney!!!!

I would go with the second option. It sounds like a lot more work for you but maybe you can get a helper who is very reliable.
