Hi,
I am curious as to how you plan a DIS meet onboard. Do you just tell everyone to meet at a certain place and time, or do you actually reserve a space through DCL? And what do you do at a DIS meet? Thanks :)

All the times I've met DISers on board, it has been informal. The easiest way is to just set up a time and place to meet in a public area (deck 7 aft verandah, one of the clubs, etc.). No reservations are necessary.

on the seven day cruise, a bunch of us met for lunch in the dining room and had a nice two hour lunch. The kids sat at one table, and the wait staff did a really good job of keeping them entertained so that the adults could visit. We did this on the first sea day on the eastern cruise, and it worked out well.

The three day cruise, we had a very quick meet in a CAT 3 room that Coach had gotten an upgrade to, and he and his family so kindly invited us to pop in before the sailaway party.

I have been to 2 DIS meets. Both times we held it on deck 10 overlooking the Goofy pool during the sail-a-way.It was very well attended both times! Over 100 people! We gave out name tags (made up in advance) and got to visit. It was a bit loud, but both times we at least got to say a quick hello so that later on during the cruise we would recognise each other!
We also scheduled a few "meets" during the week (a Brunch together, and an excursion with those who wanted to go). It was great fun.
As a wise sister (mine;) ) once said..."You ARE going to be on board with 2600 stangers, you might as well "meet" as many from the boards as possible."
For me and many in our group it made the difference between a great cruise and a "really GREAT" cruise!

And I was at the first DIS meet that RellingTwin talked about above. It was really pretty exciting and while there really was no time to talk, as she said we did at least get to see each other and when we ran into various people over the course of the seven-day cruise, we were able to chat with many that we only got introduced on the first day. I wish we could have had time to chat in a more quiet area with more.

And on our first cruise, DH spotted Inkkognito and her hubby in the hottub where they frequently spend time prior to sailaway party. We were able to chat a bit and then met up again for some bubble blowing off the aft deck at the sailaway party. That was a treat too.

I was on a 7 day cruise in July. About 20 of us who met regularly here agreed to meet a certain location and time. One of them had made a huge sign. It was great! Everyone showed up and it was fun to meet everyone face-to-face. We vowed to meet again but with a full ship, it was impossible as a group.

Must go along with RellingTwin and add that the last party we had was the BEST with the 9/28/02 DIS Board members. For many of them it was their second get together, but they made us (me, Mom and DS) feel like we were part of a big loving family.
We were invited to sit with another DIS Board couple and they were just the funniest and most informed couple we had ever met. My son still talks about Ed and Karen!

Last cruise of 4 nights we had made friends with a couple on the DIS Board and arranged to have dinner with them. We exchanged pictures and they recognized us during the Drill - it was a great time with a wonderful couple.

As TwinAve said you are going to be with strangers - might as well meet as many as you can. Smart set of twins there!!!

one other thing i forgot to mention...on my last DCL cruise, I actually was able to have my dinner reservations hooked up with two other DIS families, and that worked out great! Felt like i already knew these folks from the board. All we had to do was call DCL and have our dinner reservations linked, and this was very easy to do!

We did a few meets on the inaugural Western Caribbean. We did the "normal" Deck 10 sail away party, a Deck 7 aft "wine and cheese" party (several people ordered the cheese tray from room service, and others brought out the Boone's Farm), and a Palo's Brunch. The only one that was reserved was the brunch. One of the first people on board made the reservation.

IMO, it seems to work best when you have an active thread on the board. Our inaugural western thread was well over 1000 posts, and WDW Goose and Joe&Joanne were very active about getting us all together. Goose and his wife had ordered lime green tie-died shirts which REALLY stood out. About 50 of us had those on! Joe&Joanne made lanyards with our board names and our real names. Those were awesome! Our DD got lost before the lifeboat drill. Once we got her back, I told her if she ever got lost again to go to 1) a CM, or 2) someone with one of those lanyards and tell them she's TKD Lisa's daughter! Thankfully, she didn't need it, but it made mom feel better (LOL)!

Tulirose-

Totally OT, but I gotta know. What turned you off Survivor? Turns me off too, but I can't look away!:p

On our 2nd or 3rd cruise...I forget...we all met in Promonade Lounge at a certain time on the second day of the cruise.

Ginger had made name tags for everyone and I think we wore
purple ribbons (as I couldn't find any lime green ribbon down here in the boonies). Then we all went to lunch at Lumere's.

No other formal get togethers were done, but it was nice recognizing everyone.

Then on the next cruise...I forget how we all got together...I think we all just met at the Mickey statue and had lunch. That was
with Prymsu, Tinkerkat, Big John and Mom, I think Nanc and can't remember who else...sorry.

So there are several ways to get together...

If I were to guess, it was the show where they brought on the significant others and teased the survivors with a brief look, before cruelly wisking them away (with the ecpetion of the one winner of the awards challenge).

And to stay on topic  we met on the Sunday of our Easter cruise in the Promenade Lounge.

Last December we had a DIS meet by Scoops. We just grabbed a couple of tables, and put up a sign. I had made up little "gift" bags for everyone with little Disney souvenirs I picked up beforehand in WDW. We had the time/place prearranged before we left home.

Staying on topic, just want to agree that it is great when you *Talk* with people through these boards for months prior to cruise and then actually get to meet in person. It's like family!

Straying a bit off topic, but not too much - I PM'd both Samsma and Gometros with my response to their Survivor inquiries.

Back to Topic: DIS meets onboard the Wonder and Magic - Who is next to write about their experience??? We wanna hear it!

This sounds like great fun. We have booked our first Disney Cruise for next November. I am going to see if anyone has started a thread yet and if not will give it a try.
Thanks
