Seems like lots of us have a child who starting "big school" this year.

When is his/her first day?

Private or public?

Full or 1/2 day?

Hot lunch or sack lunch (for full dayers)?

Do you have your class assignment yet? Any friends of your child's in his/her class?

Are you using any after/before school care?

Bus, walk, Mom/Dad driving?

**********
Brittany starts 9/1. We have an excellent public school. (13 elementary schools in our town. We "lucked out" and got in one of the best districts when we bought our home.)

Full day.

Sack at least to start. I'm so used to packing her lunch. She's also kindof a picky eater.

Yes, we have our teacher. One of her best friends is in her class. She had 3 other friends in the same school. 1 is in a different class and I don't know about the other 2.

Before & After school care. It is run by our YMCA and is right at the school. 1 day a week all the kids will be bussed to the Y for swimming lessons.

I will drive her in the am and dh will pick her up at night. (like now)

My youngest is starting kindergarden!

When is his/her first day? 9/8

Private or public? public

Full or 1/2 day? 1/2 day until January, then full day

Hot lunch or sack lunch (for full dayers)?

Do you have your class assignment yet? Any friends of your child's in his/her class? yes...she knows one from preschool

Are you using any after/before school care? starting in January we'll use extended day at the school

Bus, walk, Mom/Dad driving? bus

O.K..... let's see.

A.J. has "screening" on Sept.2nd(this is a new policy for the state so that each class has so many group A's, group B's etc.) His 1st real day is the 3rd although parents go for awhile in the morning.

He will be going to a public school.

Full days-5 days a week.

Brings his own lunch.

Although we don't have an assigned teacher yet I think I know which one he is going to get. Also, I requested that he be in the same classroom as his best little friend up the street(his parents did the same). The principal said that it would be no problem and that it was a nice idea for them to be together to help with the transistion.

No before/after school program.

He will eventually be taking the bus.

Drew starts school August 30, in public school, also the school his brother goes to who will be starting 4th grade. Its full day kindergarden. Always a sack lunch for my oldest, I imagine the same thing for my youngest, unless of course he has a burning desire to buy lunch. No class assignment yet, that doesn't happen until the day before, at open house. We use aftercare only, and it happens to be at the same place where my son went to preschool, so he is comfortable with all the teachers there. Although I took off their first day, we'll be walking the first day and I'll walk to pick them up. Ordinarily they are walked to school each day and picked up by car in the evening.

I do!

She has her meeting with the teacher on September 1, and then actually starts class on the 2nd. (they do a staggerd opening here). She'll be attending public school for 1/2 day. She does have her class assignment, and only one little neighbor boy is in her class. She didn't get her friends in her class.. oh well! She'll be with me before and after school, and we'll walk to school!

Me Me!! My oldest starts kindergarten this year!

When is her first day? Aug 30

Private or public? Private

Full or 1/2 day? full day (8-3)

Hot lunch or sack lunch (for full dayers)? Hot lunch

Do you have your class assignment yet? Any friends of your child's in his/her class? I'll find out her class assignment and who is in her class on Aug 25. She will have some of the same teachers that she had last year during her Pre-K4 year, and some new teachers.

Are you using any after/before school care? Unfortunately I have to use before and after care, but it is right at the school itself.

Bus, walk, Mom/Dad driving? Mom's taxi, at your service!

Nathan starts his first day on August 25th. All of the rest of the kids go for two hours the day before.

It is public school, and it is the only K-3 in the district. His brother goes to the 4-5 which is right next door.

It is full day, but we did have the choice of going half day or all day.

Nathan will probally have a sack lunch, but can get hot lunch on the days I know he will eat it.

We should get our teacher assignments this week, I know my 5th grader is pretty anxious about it.

There is a before/after school program offered, but I am a SAHM, so don't need it.

I don't know if he will ride the bus or not. It is offered for all Kindergarden students. But we live across a park field from the school. I really don't want him on the bus forever if we could walk/drive faster. Also, Kevin could walk him home as the 4-5 graders get out earlier.

Kate starts on the 4th, for 1/2 day kindergarten. She is to bring a snack and already has her room and teacher assignments. We go in for an open house on the 27th so she can meet her teacher and other kids in the class. She is so excited to be a big girl and ride the bus to school. Now both kids are in school.....what am I going to do?

Today was her first day! and I've been teary eyed all morning!
I thought I would be fine but she's my baby and it sure is quiet around here!

Public
All day!
Packed a lunch for her
She doesn't know anyone in her class.
No after school care...with my last one I am fortunate enough not to have to work.
We will drive her this year MAYBE bus next year...we'll see.

a sad holycow sniff sniff

My dd Julie started Kindergarten last Tuesday!!

Public
All day
She takes her lunch so far
She knows a couple kids and already met a boy she wants to marry!!!
She is signed up for R'Club but grandma picks her up most days.
I drive her to school.

Garrett starts on Aug 26.
We don't know which teacher he has yet.
I will drive him to school (the bus runs by our house at 6:40!!!)
He will ride the bus home.
He's a picky eater so bag lunch I'm guessing.

He's an only and I just can't believe he's old enough for K already.

My youngest will be starting Kindergarten Sept. 9th. Since it's only half day, she will just bring a snack. She doesn't have her class assignment yet, but I do know she'll be going in the afternoon. We do not use day care since I stay home and she will be taking the bus to and from school:D

When is his/her first day? Aug 23rd

Private or public? public

Full or 1/2 day? 1/2 day

Hot lunch or sack lunch (for full dayers)?

Do you have your class assignment yet? Any friends of your child's in his/her class? Im registering her tomorrow so we dont know yet.

Are you using any after/before school care? nope just me :)

Bus, walk, Mom/Dad driving? BUS!

When is his/her first day? Sep 7th

Private or public? public

Full or 1/2 day? full day (9:15 to 3:30)

Hot lunch or sack lunch (for full dayers)? I'm gonna try to talk her into hot lunch most days. Right now, at her daycare, she pretty much eats whatever hot meal they are serving, so I hope to stick with that.

Do you have your class assignment yet? Any friends of your child's in his/her class? I should get her class assignment in the next week. I don't know ANYONE going to her school. Our township has 3 kindergarten schools, and the few other kids we know are going to one of the 2 other schools :(

Are you using any after/before school care? before probably 2 days a week and after probably 3 days a week. Little miss social will love it!

Bus, walk, Mom/Dad driving? Bus on the non-before/after school program days. Mom's taxi on the other days.

****

This is so exciting...we should make sure to check in with each other periodically!

When is his/her first day? September 13th (all other kids start September 7th)

Private or public? Public

Full or 1/2 day? full day

Hot lunch or sack lunch (for full dayers)? Mostly I will pack her lunch box, but on the days I am sure she will eat - she will buy the food.

Do you have your class assignment yet? Any friends of your child's in his/her class? She won't get her assignment until the 1st day. Some of her preschool class is going into the same school as her (we have 4 elementary schools & all have kindergarten classes & her preschool has a private kindergarten), but I don't know which ones will be in her class - there will be 5 rooms just in her school.

Are you using any after/before school care? This depends on if/when I find a job (I was layed off :( at the start of summer :D ). If necessary, her preschool has a before/after school program that I enrolled her in (just to be on the safe side with any employment opportunities). But for now, it seems like no "outside" care is needed.

Bus, walk, Mom/Dad driving? If I am still unemployed, she will get the bus from home. Her choice - she wants to be like the other "big kids" in the neighborhood. If I get a job, I bring her to her preschool & the bus will pick them up there. After school, the bus drops the kids off at the preschool & I can pick her up there.

When is her first day? Aug 30th

Private or public? public

Full or 1/2 day? 1/2 day (afternoons)

Do you have your class assignment yet? Any friends of your child's in her class? Sarah got the same Kindergarten teacher her brother had so we're very happy about that. We don't know if any of her friends are in that class yet, but I'm sure she'll make plenty of new ones! Our neighborhood (120 houses) contains enough Kindergarteners to make up half a class, but they'll all be divided among two morning and two afternoon classes.

Are you using any after/before school care? Sarah will go to KinderCare in the mornings, then after school she'll be in the park district program with her brother, which is right at the school.

Bus, walk, Mom/Dad driving? Bus in the mornings from KinderCare, after school Daddy will pick up both kids.

twin girls starting 9/7.
the district is half-day but mine were preemies and still have some issues, so they're starting in a special ed whole day program. Only problem is there's only 1 class so they're in there together after having been seperated since they were 3 for the pre-school program. They have different needs and I really wanted them seperated.
Probably take bag lunches since it's $2.10 for kid's lunch!
Drop off by dad at daycare in the morning, bus picks up there and bus home at the end of the day.
They don't know the teacher's name yet but they only have 2 that teach 5K special ed.
One dd has her entire preschool class, minus 1, from last yr in the class this yr. The other has nobody from her class but knows most of the kids from her sister's class. We don't live in a neighborhood so they don't have any issues with neighbor kids in their classes.
Their only problem is they thought they would be in the same class as their brother who is starting 6th gr the same day!

ME!! :(

Savannah starts school Aug. 25. For those of you who already started - when does your school year end?? That is SO early! For those who don't start until September - I'm jealous.

She will be in full-day - not my first choice but we didn't have a choice at that school. It's a Catholic school.

She will have a mix of sack lunches and hot lunches. I'm a SAHM, so no extended care and there are no buses, so it's mom all the time!

She's my second and my baby, and I'm going to miss her. But she is excited, so I'm excited for her!

When is his/her first day? August 20th

Private or public? private

Full or 1/2 day? half-day by choice

Hot lunch or sack lunch (for full dayers)?

Do you have your class assignment yet? Any friends of your child's in his/her class? Yes, and DD knows the teacher already...such a plus! Our school is very small (approx. 60 students PK-8th grade), and 99% of the kids from her PK class are returning. All her best buddies go to school there, so she'll be in 7th heaven!

Are you using any after/before school care? nope...I'm a SAHM, so she's stuck with me. :teeth:

Bus, walk, Mom/Dad driving? another Mom's taxi here

Stm61,

Brittany is a preemie, too. She was born at 29 weeks and was 1 # 15.5 oz, 13.5".

We are very blessed that she (to date) has no long term effects of her prematurity.

I hope your girls do well at big "K"!
