On the radio this morning they announced the winners of a contest to renew your vows on a tall ship downtown (there are a bunch of them here for our bicentennial). Turns out the winner is my cousin and his wife--we are only Christmas card close, but I was at that wedding, which was OK. However, on the way to their honeymoon they hit a deer on the Penn. turnpike and ended up in the hospital, and missed both the honeymoon and my wedding a week later. A year after that they went back to try again and she got sick.
So they won. I am not invited nor expected to be since it is a small ship, but it was cool to hear about on the radio. I have no plans to pay $15 to see tall ships anyhow.
So who here has the worst wedding/honeymoon story?

This will probably not be the worst story, but many people pity us when they hear it.
The first half of our trip was to WDW...it poured the whole time. I mean, going through the seams of the ponchos, need an umbrella to go with it poured. But, we were at WDW, so it was OK. Oh, and we stayed off-site, but we didn't know any better.
One day there was some sunshine, and we were enjoying it at DTD, when a seagull pooped on my head. DH thought it was hilarious.
The next part of our trip was a short cruise to the Bahamas, and a stay there for a few days. The night before the cruise, which left in the very early morning, we got a room at a Motel 6 in Ft. Lauderdale. What a dump! the check-in office was enclosed in metal bars. Construction supplies were everywhere. So much for trusting a national chain!
DH finally stopped laughing about the bird poop on the cruise, because he had eaten a bad chicken sandwich the night before and had the runs. The cruise was only 6 hours, so you didn't get a cabin unless you wanted to pay extra. The pool was not even filled before we arrived in port!
Dh started to feel better the next morning, so we went to our scheduled excursion to swim with the dolphins. That was fun and went well.
Then I started to feel bad, took a nap, and woke up sicker than a dog. Ended up taking a cab ride to the hospital, after several hours of puking up nothing. The Emergency room at the hospital was not a reassuring site. Do not ever go there, (meaning in the Bahamas) if you can avoid it!
At this point I just wanted to go home, so we cut short our trip and caught an earlier cruise back to the USA. We even skipped thelast leg of our trip, to Daytona, just so I could go home.
That was the end of our "official" honeymoon, but I feel like we are on one whenever we go to WDW!

DH and I go to Puerto Rico for our Honeymoon. I've been to PR every year since I was 8 through 16 because my dad bought into a timeshare in the San Juan area. I hadn't been to PR since I was 16 and we always went in February. I wanted to share this beautiful island with DH since he never even vacationed anywhere as a kid.

BIG MISTAKE! PR was not what I remembered it to be. Since it was October (not February) it was HOT, HUMID and MISERABLE. The timeshare was in really bad shape. We should of stayed in the Condado Area in a Hotel.

Needless to say DH HATED PR! So it made our honeymoon anything but fun. After a couple of days in PR DH gets a toothache, and when I say toothache, I mean OMG he was in some serious pain. Try to find a dentist who speaks English in San Juan. We spent 4 hours in a dental office in PR with a dentist who kept telling DH EXTRACIONE' <sp> DH ended up getting his tooth pulled in PR. What a nightmare!

Looking back, we should of booked a cruise like we were going to.

My sister and her husband rented a cabin in the Smokies for their honeymoon. They kept hearing something at night, and after a few nights, they realized that it was a bat. At one point, the bat actually flew directly at my BIL and ran into his stomach. They had reported the bat to the cabin owner, but she wasn't too concerned. But then when they called her in the middle of the night because the bat was harassing them, she tried to get it and couldn't so she moved them to another cabin. The other cabin hadn't been used in a while and had dirt piled up all over the place.

They still had a few nights reserved at this point, but since they weren't getting the cabin they had paid for, they decided to leave early. The owner refused to give them their money back. They called American Express to dispute the charge, and American Express said that if you rent a cabin in Tennessee, you should expect bats. They got married 2 years ago, but they finally now have a court date. It's become more about the principle of the issue than the money.

But the worse part was that when my sister went to work when she got home (she's an RN at a hospital), the doctors told her that she'd have to have rabbies shots since the bat flew towards them. She and her husband ended up having to take the whole series of rabbies shots. It's not as bad as it used to be, but it's no fun. And the ones they used for the first shot made my sister horribly sick because she was allergic to them. They had to call around to different Departments of Health to find someone who had an older batch with different stuff in it so that she wouldn't be allergic to the rest of the series.
