Who Got A Paper Coconut In The Mail?

I agree it must be purely random. We've sailed twice, the last being in September. And we are scheduled again on the Magic in April, but we have never received any promotional material from disney.

We received the coconut mailout (still think it is a great beginning to
a great marketing tool) BUT, we never received the CD music promotion
that some of the others have posted about.

So my guess, especially using a marketing house it that it is random, I
mean some kids received it but not the parents. So that right there is
a good example.

We are happy just that they did anything. NOW, do I think it would be
a great promo for DCL to send out a mailer to EVERY past cruiser who
is a CC member with a special shipboard credit code or something like
that for a future cruise? I think that would be great. Alot of the other
cruise lines offer mailers with certificates for future sailings, or on sailings that they are trying to fill up.

You never know, they said that this was the first of some surprises to
come???? I thought it was a very cool idea....... I agree it is not like
sitting in Palo's and getting the full atmosphere etc etc etc, but we will
try to enjoy it :)

We did not get the cocomut, but DD did (go figure).

Best recipe is for the "Instant Palo Souffle" (at the bottom of the long recipe)

1. Go on a Disney Cruise.
2. Dine at Palo
3. Order souffle.

Now that is my style of cooking.

I'm looking at mine right now and see that it's addressed to only ME, too. Maybe since it's a recipe they sent it out to women only? I guess we're all just guessing now. :confused3 :earboy2:

Maybe the sent it to all the ladies because we will be the one making it!!!

I got mine too!!!!!!

DW just called. She's playing hooky today, and doesn't really share my obsession with these boards. So she says "we got something in the mail from Disney, some kinda paper..." and I jumped in and said "we got the coconut?!? Whoo!! Coconut!!"

I think she's frightened of me. I thought at first it might be the DCL DVD, which I ordered last week as ammo to convince some friends to come with us next March (that's right, exactly one year from RIGHT NOW, I'll be wandering back into the MK for one last afternoon before the bus shows Thursday morning to take us to the Wonder), but I'll take the coconut.

I'm cool. My mom says so.

We went on our first Disney Cruise this past July. Never got any information about the Castaway Club :( but did get a coconut today.

We didn't get any info either about the Castaway Club, we cruised last April. I called DCL about this, and sure enough, we are members. We all have our own identification number, including the children!!!!

And I REPEAT, drum roll please....AND the RECIPE IS?????????????????

Here's the Palo soufflée recipe I have, from a past issue of Disney Magazine:

3 T butter, plus more for greasing the souffle cups
6 T sugar, plus more for dusting the souffle cups
1 C milk
3 T flour
3 T Dutch processed cocoa
2 oz (1/3 cup) semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate, melted
4 eggs, separated

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and set a full kettle of water on to boil.

Butter 6 four-oz souffle cups and coat with sugar. Set aside. Bring the milk to a boil in a small saucepan. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the flour and cocoa to the butter and beat with a whisk until it has a smooth, paste-like consistency. Reduce heat and let the mixture cook 1 minute. Slowly add the hot milk, whisking until smooth, then blend in melted chocolate. Set aside to cool for 5 minutes, then stir in egg yolks.

In a separate bowl beat egg whites until frothy. Slowly add sugar, 1 T at a time, until stiff, glossy peaks form. Stir a heaping spoonful of egg whites into the chocolate, then fold in the remaining whites just until combined. Pour the batter into the prepared souffle cups. Place the cups in a large baking dish and add enough boiling water to reach halfway up the sides of the souffle cups. Bake for 20 minutes. Serve immediately with vanilla and/or chocolate sauces. Serves 6.

Vanilla Sauce

1 1/4 C heavy cream
1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
3 T sugar
2 small egg yolks

Bring cream and vanilla bean to a low boil over medium heat. Combine sugar and egg yolks. Add 2 spoonfuls of boiling cream to egg mixture and stir well, then pour back into the remaining cream and continue to cook over low heat, stirring constantly, for 3 to 4 minutes.

Chocolate Sauce

3/4 C boiling water
4 T sugar
6 oz dark chocolate, chopped
3 T cocoa

Bring water and sugar to a boil. Remove from heat and add chocolate. Cover pan and let sit a few minutes until melted. Stir in cocoa until smooth.

Enjoy!!!! I'm making this tonight!!! Yum!!!!!!!!

And to you Sharon "WDWmom2" I reply a big big big "THANK YOU"

Thank-you wdwmom2 for posting the recipe and to Kathy who posted it on another thread (that I didn't see), nice of you ladies to share :flower: .

I'm not upset, just alittle wistful ;) , that I'm not recieving CC member mailings. I was also trying to help Marilee not feel left out all by herself. If random is the only way these mailing can come to be, that is better than nothing. I get a smile on my face just recieving the Disney Direct catalog  . I like to get things in the mail from Disney.

I'm glad to read that some fellow 3/20/04 cruisers did get this mailing ( hi Susan and Kathy :wave2: ). Sounds as though this mailing was quite random.

I would hope folks don't stop posting when they recieve goodies in the mail for fear of backlash. The next best thing to being surprised by something in the mail is reading about the cute stuff DCL comes up with.

Anyone make the recipe yet? I bet its hard to make exactly as good as how palos makes it. I had for the first time on our last cruise. It was so good!

I made it last night. Thought that DH and I could split all 6!!!!! But those darn kids of ours showed up and we only got 1 apiece.

I have made it before, it really is delicious. But I have found both times that 20 minutes isn't long enough to bake, probably takes around 40 minutes. Just keep an eye on it. My oven temp is correct. Make sure you whip the egg whites good and fold them into the mixture, DON"T overmix or it won't be light and fluffy. I got alittle yolk in my whites last pm and it didn't raise quite right. It was still yummy though!!! The first time it turned out nice and fluffy.

It's 15 degrees here, not quite like sitting on the in Palo on the Wonder, looking out over the beautiful blue ocean. But we made do!!!!

I believe I posted, more like whined  , on here last week, that we didn't get a coconut. Wellll guess what.......ours arrived yesterday in the mail. My apologies. I would like to also state, they are not just mailing to women. Ours was addressed to DH who cannot boil water, let alone make a souffle! LOL... Guess I will be the one making it this weekend!
Susie
P.S. mmouse37-Just curious, by any chance did you get one? I thought maybe you might have gotten one late like us.
