Dont mean to create a "bummer" post here, if it needs moving, I perfectly understand. I just know that DVCers frequent WDW enough to maybe experience this.

Seems lke every trip, one of us goes home with a cold from WDW. Its frustrating! This trip, I felt it coming on Sun. nite. It got full blown last night, enough that I kept DW awake most of the night. I finally got up about 5:30 and took a pepsi and a book to the Iron Spike Room, grabbed a leather chair and tried to rest. Mostly did this to give DW a break. We will be driving home tommorow and need lots of rest. This inevitably happens every trip now.

I figure being in the crowds, lots of stuff floating around. But I am overboard on washing hands. Which leads to another beef, people leaving the restrooms everywhere, not washing hands. Yuck!! Been taking vitamin C, brought Zicam to ward off possible colds, drinking plenty of fluids. AAAARRRGH, all to no avail.

Sorry for the pouting, just needed to let off the steam! Now DD is not feeling good. And we have been here since day after Thanksgiving. So we have had time to adjust to weather changes, etc.

Are we the only ones that this happens too, or are there others?

Did you fly, if you did that is probably the reason. Air planes at this time of year are just a cesspool of recirculated germs.

We use a product called SinoFresh to moisten our sinuses. It has helped prevent travel colds. pixiedust:

Jimmy, we didn't leave any germs behind for you since none of us got sick and we are still healthy here at home one and a half weeks later.

Did you crash on the window seat in the Iron Spike Room (or did you have to move someone else out of the seat)? The rocking chairs are pretty darn comfortable.

I came home with a pulled muscle in my shoulder--From TT (I think) it wasn't working properly the day I rode it, it kept stopping at the wrong time.

Last Feb I came home and had a kidney stone attack for 2 weeks----It must of been all the roller coasters I went on :confused3

I'll take a cold any day !!! :rotfl2:

Hope you feel better. :wizard:

On our last trip to WDW (we came back the end of Oct), my DH caught a "doozy" of a cold; there was this one kid next to him in the Muppet Show................ :rolleyes1 . Anyway, whether it was that kid's sneezes and coughs,or someone else's, DH got it. It took about a week to incubate, and then another week to find it's way to me.
Well, we then go down to Atlanta for our family Thanksgiving feast, all sniffs and coughs, and guess what????? All of them were sneezing and coughing, too! BUT................none of them had gone to WDW! :confused3

Moral of the story: THIS IS COLD SEASON! :rotfl:

I come home with a terrible cold/sinusitis/bronchitis every time we go to WDW. We do fly but we also fly to SW Florida, Nevada, etc. and I never come home sick. It is frustrating. It can be December, March or August, it just doesn't matter. I am starting to think that maybe I am allergic to something down there, that then triggers my allergies, which weaken my immune system and then I get sick, sick, sick. It has happened the last 5 or so times we have been there. I am going to ask the doctor for some prophalaytic antibiotics next time to see if this helps. It sure does put a damper on our fun when all I want to do is sleep and can't enjoy the rides.

After reading the book Nickeled and Dimed (which details a woman taking various minimum wage jobs - including working as a maid), I realized that hotel rooms do NOT get sanitized properly. We've all read about people finding disgusting things in their rooms, and if obvious mistakes like that happen, you know that the things you can't see (germs) are being overlooked.

We carry Lysol and Lysol Wipes with us. I always start the trip by spraying and wiping the door handles, phone, remote control, light switches and faucet handles - as well as the bathroom and kitchen surfaces. We carry alcohol-based hand sanitizer as well and sanitize after every ride. Warm swimming pools are also a breeding ground for germs. I have been known to be a wee bit OCD with the whole germy thing. :rotfl:

Sorry you are sick & hope you feel better soon!

Okay, I've just been diagnosed with gall stones, so I'm wondering if I should, maybe, skip the roller coasters this trip.

We are leaving tomorrow for BCVs and MVMCP on Thursday... DH and I went to our chiropractor today for adjustments and hope that will ward off those nasty germs!

Count me in as another one who ends up with a sinus infection or bronchitis after each trip. I've used Lysol and Purell, but it doesn't seem to matter. My DH thinks I go way overboard.

I think Starbox has a good thing with the wipes. I travel to Boston (I live in florida) by plane a lot, get sick 1 out of 3 trips. Don't know if its the plane or not. I drive to disney about once every 2 months, have never come down with any colds or coughs. My brother, sister and there familys visit disney from boston by plane and never get sick. I guss its just the luck of it. I also never get as good a nite sleep ( love those king beds) when I travel as I do at disney.

I'm fighting a huge ear infection! Will be on the plane to WDW Dec. 15th! I blame my infection on the fact that I talked to DS in New Orleans just before Thanksgiving. He said he couldn't come for the family celebration because he had a bad earache. Darn Phone!! :rotfl: He's still fighting it, now with a new antibiotic, doesn't bode well for me, I guess.

Bobbi

PS. I hope we all get well and that we feel better soon!!!

No we drove. I always get sick flying, even in summer.

After the day has gone on, I think DD and I have determined that we have sinus infection. It must be something down here that doesnt suit me and my nose.

Nah, just avoid all the good, rich food with butter, cream and fat. Plus the marbled fine meats like filet mignon. And sleep sitting up so you don't get the stomach pains/gassy feeling/nausea. And get those darn things removed as soon as possible (plus the gall bladder, too, if it will keep on making stones). Speaking from experience here.

I usually get sick when we fly. I have tried echinacea, zicam, vit C, you name it. I actually just got off the plane yesterday and I am hoping no cold this time. We shall see.....

Hope you are feeling better soon.

I always return with sinus problems after a WDW trip.

An RN recently told me that being dehydrated can mess with your sinuses badly and I realized I probably don't drink nearly as much water as I should (and normally do at home) with all the extra activity in the heat that we do there.

I also was told that Saline Nasal Spray is one of the best ways to guard against and assist in treating Sinus Infections. Keeping your Sinuses hydrated and flushed each morning and evening may reduce Sinus problems significantly. A cool mist humidifier also helps tremendously.

Another school of thought that has been in the news lately is that with the introduction of all of the anti-bacterial products that have come on the market over the last few years, there is a concern that we are actually causing bacteria to develop an immunity to these products as well as to conventional antibiotics. This may result in bacteria morphing into bigger and "badder" strains of bacteria causing people to actually become sicker with fewer antibiotic remedies. :confused3 :scared1:

I usually end up sick after returning also when we fly somewhere - either bronchitis or a sinus inflection :sad2: My doctor told me to take a Sudafed about 1 hour before our flight and last time I didn't get sick! I don't know if it was just luck but I'm going to try it again when we fly in March.

I don't think it helps to be in a place millions of people visit every year from all over the world either.

(I won't use anti-bacterial soap at our house - there's too much evidence against it!)
