Who else misses the 90s

Not sure if I want to go back further

But it seems like hi tech is not always easier

Sometimes low tech is easier
Well, at least with photography, with modern cellphone cameras and software, you don't have to be a good photographer to get good photos.
Out of focus? The software can fix it.
Over exposed? The software can fix it.
Color off? The software can fix it.
Unwanted person or thing in your photo? My daughter's cellphone camera has software to fix that. (Although sometimes it can yield bizarre results).

I'd like to see software that can fix moderately out of focus or over exposed photos. Slight? yea, probably. Color fix? That's been around for a while.

In the 90's I had a digital camera that took so-so quality photos and used a 3.5 floppy disc for storage.

I'll go back to the 90's, but not for digital cameras.
I had a Panasonic camera that took a high capacity 3.5” disk called a Superdisk. I had to have a special drive to read it as well. I still have the camera and accessories somewhere in the basement. Yeah, I don’t miss those early digital cameras. I would rather use my old Canon AE-1 35mm than those early digital cameras.

I do miss just going to the mall and window shopping, wandering into Brookstone or Sharper Image and finding all sorts of cool gadgets I never knew I needed. I know malls are still around, but the stores have changed over the years. The shop at home experience just isn’t the same, even if the actual purchase and delivery is more convenient.

I miss Skymall, too. Never bought anything, but I always loved looking through all the random stuff you could buy.

90s were great. TV shows were better and I liked going into "record stores," which was really a CD store. I hate putting music on my phone. Don't get me started with the cars no longer coming with CD players!!!

At least we have boom boxes still….📻

Oh and possibly the best was the almost complete absence of social media until late 90s.

We can go back further in time if you like. My wife found 3 rolls of 35 mm film last month and on whim she looked for a place to process it. She discovered there is a store right here in our town that specializes in film. They process it and make prints and transfer your photos to a CD, they sell film, they sell film cameras, just like the good old days. And there was a steady stream of customers coming in when we dropped off and picked up our film.
I know some places even still process Super 8 film, but it's not cheap.

I remember in the late 90's stores started releasing a new color-process B&W 35 mm, because it was easier for Walmart and photo shops to just run everything on the same processor. I had photography classes and we processed our own B&W anyway, but regular B&W seemed to be getting harder to find about that time.

Technically those predated the 90's.

Look at these guys.
You know that guy named Dad that's embarrassing to hang around with?
He learned how to embarrassing in the 80's!

Further proof of Dad embarrassment: Guy in blue jacket obviously exhibiting the classic "pull my finger" behavior that never went over well at your sleepovers.

I miss shoe shopping. It is so frustrating to go into a shoe store, and 80% of styles and sizes are "online". I NEED to try shoes on. I also just Borders, Waldens, BD Daltons, and Mervyn's.

Part of my current TV package is a bunch of stylized music channels. My favourite one is the channel that plays nothing but 90s music. I have it on in the background almost every day while I'm working and it's very far and few between that it plays a song that I don't recognize. The 90's was the best decade of my life so far.

I had a complete black and white processing setup. Tanks, enlarger, filters, lenses etc. Got it in 1979. Finally got rid of it in 2014. Sad to see an enlarger that cost new $300 in 1979 carted off as e waste.
As for stills, I didn't think that $20 for 36 roll printed and burned to CD was too bad.

I remember that setup from my photography classes in school. You never forget the smell of the chemicals . . .

Wow. Not saying TV is great now, but the 1990's don't strike me as one of TVs strongest decades. Of course I was raising kids in the 1990's so my TV usually had Salute Your Shorts, Guts, Double Dare on it.

Not sure at what point the scale shifts from slight to moderate but I saw some demos of Adobe and Edius software last year that turned what I would consider to be useless photos into usable photos.

I can still smell that stuff! It was pungent and strong, yet I kind of miss it.

Nothing is was PC in the 90s and cancel culture didn’t exist. CDs were crazy expensive compared to streaming nowadays. But I definitely miss all the good 90s music, now everything new sounds whispery, whiny or auto tuned.

I do - I miss gas being $1.10 a gallon and inflation being half the rate it is now. And I also miss the 90s since my kiddos were babies then!!
