My hair is going silvery gray. I'm about 1/2 and 1/2 in the front and my hair is lightening from dark brown to light brown in the back. I think it looks lovely and my DH and kids love it too. Every time I get my hair cut somebody always says "I can help you get rid of that "blonde." I don't want to get rid of my "blonde". I *like* the way it looks.

I used to color my hair, even had it done professionally for awhile. But once I got to 1/2 silver the upkeep was just too much. I made peace with the silver and it's been with me ever since. I wear a lot of blue with silver jewelry. My glasses are turquoise, which particularly sets off my green eyes, and I always get compliments on my hair. People ask me where I got it done, for pete's sake. So why don't the beauticians just back off? I'ts not like I don't know.

I think they're just trying to make a living and make an extra sale. I wouldn't take it personally.

I'm thinking they say something because most women do color their hair.
I will be 43 soon and have never once colored my hair. I love the color of my hair, brown with a lot of red highlights. It is starting to go gray and I have no desire to start coloring it.
My hair grows fast and personally I have no desire to become a slave to the gray roots.

Don't you think that after hearing me say "no thank you, I like my gray" oh, about 400 times they'd make a little note of it??

Nope, they hope eventually you'll either give in or change your mind :rotfl:

When I get gray hair, I'll let you know if I like it. :)

I'm 47 years old, and miraculously, my hair is still very dark brown. The last time I got it cut, I kept searching through the hairs that fell on the gown, and I couldn't find any gray or white ones.

I'm 41 and got my 1st gray hair at 16!!! I've been coloring my hair since I was 21. If I didn't color it, I'd be totally gray. So in response to your question...I hate my gray!!

I started getting gray at 34yrs old (Im 36 now). I hate it! I have red hair and I have to color it now. I color with the closest color to my original color. I have thyroid issues and have been told that might have something to do with the graying.

I started getting my first gray hairs when I was still in high school. (Unfortunately, both of my DDs stuffered the same fate.) I have been coloring my hair for a very long time. It was totally gray by the time I was in my mid 30's.

Nope - I hate the gray. Some are silvery and silky, but some are white and kinky. I'm lucky enough that I don't have enough to start dyeing yet - I can still pluck them out - but it's going to catch up with me sooner or later and I'll absolutely be coloring my hair then!

My hair started to turn a silver color right after DD was born. I was 36. It started as a patch in the front of my bangs. Over the years, it has spread. I'm a salt & pepper now. I've had several people ask me how I got the silver streak in the front of my hair. I have no plans to color it. I colored my hair when I was young and it really bothered my scalp. I am quite happy with my grey and intend to keep it. Give me another five years and it will be totally silver.

I got my first gray hair at 16. I'm now 38 and only have gray hair on the top of my head -- not in the back on on the sides. If I didn't color my hair, people would start calling me Pepe Le Pue. I like my original natural color that's on the rest of my head, so that's what I color to match.

I have dark blond hair, and I'm seeing a few silver strands myself, but not many yet. I don't mind it...yet.

What I do mind is when I get my hair cut and the stylist is shampooing my hair and says "would you like an eye brow wax today?" Um, no. If I wanted one I would have said so. So you're saying I should have it done? You don't like the looks of my eye brows? Gee, thanks.

I tried letting my hair go grey several years ago. It bothered other people more than it bothered me. When I picked up my DD at kindergarten once and one of the kids asked me why I was a mom with grandma hair, I went back to coloring it.

Now my hair is white and my DDIL talked me into letting it go natural. I hated it and thought I looked much too old with it completely white. Now I have brown highlights and low lights and like it much better. Some people can really carry it off, I am just not one of those people.

Some ladies have silver hair like the OP or white hair. IMO those look pretty while gray hair tends to look a little dirty. Guess that puts me in the "does NOT love gray" camp.

If my hair goes dirty gray, I'll probably make a regular date with hair dye. If it goes silver or white, I'll leave it looking radiant.

I just turned 40 and have been dyeing mine for a handful of years. Right now, I have just enough grey to be noticeable. If I grey in a uniform manner (salt and pepper throughout rather than "chunks" of grey), I think I'd be willing to let it go when the time feels right. My mom has gone grey all around her face, but the top and back are dark. It's odd looking, so she dyes it.

I am 41 and have increasing gray. Whatever it does, it does. I agree with the PP that said "I will not be a slave to the gray roots."

I imagine just a few years of color would pay for a trip to Disney. :confused3

That's a no-brainer for me.... I'll go gray and go to Disney!!

here is a photo of our gray...

Brilliant would be a good description. My hair is fine and straight and very shiny, so it does give the impression that I have "done something" to it. When I wear silver drop earrings it is especially pretty. I've seen women with that dull coarse grey hair and if my hair was like that I probably would be less pleased with it.

No love lost between me and my Gray. I feel OLD if I let it grow so ain't going there.
I just got mine highlighted (heavily highlighted!) and got CARDED yesterday at the store!!!! (I am 50 btw).:worship::worship::worship:
Not going gray!
