Who else is tired of people's apathy?

Are you disenchanted with people's apathy?

  • Yes, lack of genuine concern is a problem these days.

  • No, I couldn't care less.

Seriously! Does it bother anyone else when you hear or read...well, it doesn't matter to me but...or...I don't care what you do, but...

Well, if you don't care, why are you going to listen and offer your opinion? <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_14_3.gif' alt='Disappointed 3' border=0></a> It seems to bother me when it's one on one with a person.

Here we go...from Merriam-Webster online.

One entry found for apathy.

Main Entry: ap·a·thy
Pronunciation: 'a-p&-thE
Function: noun
Etymology: Greek apatheia, from apathEs without feeling, from a- + pathos emotion -- more at PATHOS
1 : lack of feeling or emotion : IMPASSIVENESS
2 : lack of interest or concern : INDIFFERENCE

Yes, I agree with you, Sandy, many seem apathetic today, but on the other hand, many do care too. I do think it is more of the former though. I do find the group of people here to be more caring than average, quite a bit more.

Who really cares about apathy anyhow?;)

(somebody had to say it)

Absolutely bothers me. I wonder why people don't stand up more for what they believe in.

I do know its one of the attributes I look for when choosing friends or people I want to associate with. I like people who if they have something to stay, they stand up and are counted for, regardless of public opinion or backlash. ::yes::

I'm tired of apathy too. I do think sometimes when we see apathy though, we might be seeing fear.
I've had people tell me that they're afraid to stand up against something or other because they're afraid of what will happen to them if they do so.

:(

Now THAT is sad.

Maybe it's more a problem of people facing their own reality or perhaps it's merely not wanting to offend the other party's beliefs while maintaining their own privately.

I don't think it's so much apathy as much as people just don't want to deal with the ramifications of saying something. People are just too sensitive nowadays and rather than a huge issue being made out of a molehill, sometimes it's just better to keep your mouth shut.

People are apathetic for lots of different reasons. There's the guy who doesn't care that he threw his cigarette butt on the ground. There's the woman who doesn't care that she forgot to feed her dog today. There's the kid who shoots another kid and doesn't blink an eye.

Then there's the person (who might be me) who can't grow indoor plants no matter what I do, and rather than let it bug me, I pretty much don't care.;)

All cases of apathy, and there are countless more out there. I think it depends on the situation whether it bothers me. If it's trivial, like me and my indoor plant handicap, I guess I don't care - but for more serious matters, you bet I care - and I wish it would stop.

I stand up for my beliefs, but I try to do so without offending anyone with differing opinions. I guess it's just a result of political correctness. We all have to be careful of what we say, you know.

However, when the topic is something I'm passionate about (my husband, children, religion, country, etc.), I'll go to my death defending it.

Apathy is bothersome, but what bothers me even more is the complete self-absorption that seems to be rampant in society today. It's all about MEMEMEMEMEME. It's sad.

Apathy is not a word I would use much in these days. It seems, at least politically, that many are far from apathetic. So much so, that nobody will give an inch either way or even acknowledge some validity to the other sides viewpoint.
