Who else is planning to try VGF?

I thought that the Grand Floridian contracts were not being filled until June 19th?

I bought in (as a totally new DVC member) and was told to call on June 19th.

I was hoping for a studio the first week of Decemeber...now this says there is a waitlist already.

New members can't buy until the 19th but current members have been able to buy for a couple of weeks now. Your contract will be processed on the 19th and you will be able to try for a room before those who don't own at GFV will be able to try.

Well I guess that kills my planned vacation this year, I was going to aim for 12/1 - 12/11 with a back up date range of 12/8-12/18.

Being new to this, I do not even know if joining the wait list is a likely hood.

We'd like to try it out sometime around Marathon weekend next year. Hopefully there will be some leftovers for us non-owners :thumbsup2

You won't know until you buy and have a chance to try- if you want to go I would say you should still try waitlisting- again you will still be ahead of everyone who did not buy GFV. You could also see about the possibility of a shorter stay in a 1 bedroom unit if the studios are not available. I haven't checked on December since I have a Feb use year and don't want to eat into too many of my 2014 points- we just have a 1 night trip planned for opening day.

Thank you for your input, very much appreciated. I will wait list (that just sounds so hopeless, but you never know).

I have seen a comment that the fixed week was filled already, but not totally wait listed.

Most of the first week in December is wait list for studios and 2 bed lock off. I bought there and see the availability. Maybe more will open after June 23 but it is a small resort and those studios are super popular and so is that time of year

I'm hoping for Nov 17-21 in a 1 bedroom, any view I can get. LOL We are presently booked at BWV for those dates and then moving to AKV Kidani from the 21st-27th.
This trip we will be celebrating my birthday on the 18th and our 40th wedding anniversary on the 22nd.

I'm sure we'll try it out eventually but am not in a big rush. We haven't made our plans for 2014 yet so not sure when. Considering that the point chart rivals Aulani's it's pretty point intensive so I'm sure we'll only try it out on a trip where we can go in Dream season or something less. It doesn't really look like our style decor either so it may be for a shorter trip too. But I know we'll try it out one day because we've tried out all the other DVC resorts. That's what we do. We resort hop. It will just be a carefully planned trip for us so we don't waste too many points on 1 trip...

Depends how long you want to stay. Sunday through Thursday availability is fine.

We currently have BLT Lake View reserved for Dec. 16th-21st. VGF has rooms (I don't remember which) for an almost identical point value.

I will likely try to change my reservation. I won't be too bummed out if I don't get it. BLT was going to be a new treat for us on this trip. I'm a little afraid of the BLT studio size and decided that IF we could change to VGF...it would be cool.

I'm hoping to get a couple of days in January 2014. Just so I can say I have stayed there!

Same here!! I just want to try it, so I can say I tried it. :lmao: I am hoping they will have studio for a few days on last week of January before our cruise. My second choice would be BLT. I stayed there for one night on their opening night, but DH and DS did not go with me that trip, so it would be new to them.

I'm hoping to make the switch on July 16 for our November stay in a lake view studio at BLT. Never stayed BLT before and know it would be nice, but would really love to move! Hoping our timing is good, given its the week before thanksgiving and the booking window is so short.

All right... the short answer to OP's question is EVERYONE!

If you own a Chevy rental but can exchange for a Porsche rental, would you take that opportunity?

So every DVC member is planning to do that whenever they get a chance now. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

You should ask "Who for sure will not want to stay VGF if it offered to you as a choice?" :rolleyes1

I decided we will try it before we buy into it. So, I will try for a spot in either January after the marathon, or April before our WBPC cruise.

I will go online at the first opportunity (still not entirely clear when that will be--I'm not and do not plan to be a VGF owner...so when can I start looking for a reservation?) and will book whatever is available in a studio at the 7-month window--in other words, I'll plan my trip around VGF availability!

I've been wanting to stay at the GF for years and years, but could never justify the cost. I have a flexible work schedule (I can work anywhere, most of the time)...so I can grab what's open and go from there...

I'd LOVE to buy in--but there's no way to justify buying more points and I'm disinclined to sell my already-owned points just to buy VGF...so I'll see what I can do w/the 7-month window...it helps that I can book what's available instead of hoping for availability for specific dates...

SO can't wait!

We will try it at some point. WL and VGF are the last two on our WDW DVC list. Our dates are more flexible than many, so maybe low DVC demand season September 2014 or September 2015.

Not in the lock off or lake view studios. And I am sure by June 19th most will be pretty gone anyway. First week of December is always booked up quick since the points are less and all the Christmas activity.

Be sure to watch the DVC member website closely then. On our cruise last week, they are projecting it to sell out in less than six months (around the first of the year).

Lots of things go into that 1) only 100-147 villas (smallest inventory of any resort) 2) high demand - they sold over $8M of contracts in the first day 3) guaranteed weeks of up to 35% of the available villas -- reduces the inventory for normal points buyers .

Also, they expect several points increases within the next couple of months. Already one is scheduled from $145 to $150. As inventory is reduced I would expect it to go to at least the $165 point like BLT and probably higher. By the time it sells out it will probably be close to $185 or higher.
