Who else is leaving a beloved pet behind?

we are leaving in about 13 days and we will be leaving behind our cat,our little princess Dayle, she is about 18 months old.we have someone to look after her while we are away but we hate leaving her and we will miss her a lot.

Usually my mom or my MIL watch my darling pup. My mom gets mad at me for checking up on my dog so much. My dog is my baby girl.

Yes. I leave my cat, Belle, behind. Typically, I put her in a kennel when I go. I know she gets top notch care there. Its a 3 story condominium for each individual cat that is heated/air conditioned, they are given constant food and play time in the morning while their "condo" is cleaned. It still breaks my heart to leave her.

On my recen trip, I almost cried when I left.

Oh man... do we ever! Our three dogs love the kennel (aka "Puppy Prison Camp") but as soon as we leave the quiet in the car is almost always too much for us.

We're leaving for two weeks next month and we're dreading this trip because of our pets... or at least one of them. In October of last year I planned a trip to WDW to propose to my then-girlfriend. The week before the trip our boxer, Charlie, got very ill and had a stroke. He spent two days in the vet ICU and another three days at home hooked up to an IV pump. I slept on the kitchen floor with him so I could keep an eye on him and give him his shots/change his IV bag. We rescued him in Feb. of last year and found out pretty quickly that his poor little heart is in bad shape. The vet gave him six months to live at that point, so the stroke in October was almost six months to the day that news was broken to us.

He's doing well now and, in fact, is healthier than when we rescued him. We've put him in the kennel for long weekends with no problems (lots of guilt though), but this upcoming trip and the anniversary of last year's crisis are looming large. :guilty:

Pet owners like yourself deserve one of these:  I think that is so sweet how you slept on the floor to tend to him. I would have done the same.

I am glad he is doing well!!!! If you have alot of trust in the kennel to take care of your Charlie, then he will be just fine. Just like I know that my Gizmo will be fine staying at my dad's. Here is another:

We'll be leaving our Basset Hound with his buddies at the Vet when we head out. He stays there 4-5 times a year, and the staff there is so great! They have a doggie day care thing there as well, so he's not just sitting in a cage all alone all day. He's glad to come home, but sometimes I think he's sad to leave all his friends at the vet!

I will be leaving my cat on our 7 day trip this year but my mother is coming up to stay at my house so that will help. I just hope that "Sheba" doesn't scare her half to death when my mother is sleeping and she decided to join her by jumping up on the bed :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :furious: :furious:

We are actually staying at Portofino Bay and doing US/IOA just so we can take our little demon Shih-Tzu Scruffy. We plan to go over to WDW and do the Halloween Party on the 5th, but he can stay in the room at PBH with no problems. He made himself physically ill the last time we boarded him, so this time he's going too! :dogdance:

I'll be leaving behind the 2 furry members of our family: Sugar (cat) and Simon (Mini Schnauzer). :guilty: We'll be staying in a cabin at FW b/c we sold our popup earlier this year. Can't wait to buy a new camper so we can take Simon w/ us. :Pinkbounc (We never take the cat--she does fine at home alone. I have a friend look in on her once a day, though.)

Our dog goes to grandma's for her vacation while we are away. She also gains weight at grandma's.

Yay hugs! Thanks Jlatina. Charlie's sending a bunch of air kisses your way, too. :goodvibes

Yep, I feel bad when I spend just one night at wdw, or anywhere else away from my cat. He , on the other hand, probably does not care lol

My family and I are currently puppy sitting two cute puppies whose owners are at the parks. In a way, it's a vacation for them too! I can understand how sad it can be to leave a pet behind, but think of it this way, they are having a vacation too!!! :thumbsup2

We send our Coton de Tulear, Buddy, to the kennel which he actually enjoys. He'll actually be there this trip with his cousin Lyla - so we'll arrange for play time together so they can sniff and kiss :dogdance:

It's so sad...My beagle goes to the window when we leave and watches us drive out of the driveway...Oh no! We left her for 2 nights over the summer and the pet sitter said she woudn't eat and then she started tearing up magazines and acting up. We never had that happen before with our other dogs. Thank God we have a wonderful sitter and she took action to get her to eat and removed the mags, etc. I look at it as pay the pet sitter to come as many times as you possibly can so the dog can get outside and play and see people. I read somewhere to leave clothes around with your scent like a tshirt. This way it comforts them? We'll call home to see how she's doing for sure.

We just got back from a week long trip late last night and I haven't got to pick up my german shepherd yet. I can't wait. I miss her so much. I cried when I dropped her off, she stayed at my in laws. She is going to be so excited when I go pick her up today.

We have a "pound puppy" , DH thinks he is a Peek-A-Poo, I think he has a little bit of everything in him. LOl We have not left him yet for a long trip but I dread it when we do! He really is just like a second child!!

Jack, the Shih Tzu, is staying home this year. DS and DD will be on break from college and promise to keep an eye on my baby. Actually, if Jack were a teen-aged girl he'd have been the easy chick at the high school. Anyone with a cookie in one hand and a squeaky toy in the other is the absolute love of his life, at least until the cookies run out. He'll go to DD's boyfriend's soccer games (Jack has a special soccer ball hoodie for these occasions.) and to DS's RPG thingies (He likes to wear his sombrero and go as Pancho Villa for the RPG crowd.) Jack the Shih Tzu will probably have a better time than we will.

When we travel (which with Disney so close is rare - everyone comes to visit us here) that is the hardest part - leaving the pets behind. DD is missing them in no time at all! We have a sitter stay at the house with them, and they love her, but I do miss them - (after the first night of course - I love having a night with no four legged critters in my bed!)

We call it the "Puppy Spa" when we did board Princess before I found the sitter!

Our dear Charlie, american bulldog (not to be confused with an english bulldog) and our 3 cats, Phantom, Jessica and Riley must stay at home as well. We usually get a pet sitter, but if not, then Charlie goes for his vacation to the kennel and a friend stops by to check the cats.

I always worry, especially because Charlie gets so depressed when we are away, which is why we try and keep him at home. He loves to travel, so if we could take him on a plane, he would happily sit in a seat and watch the clouds. I know he would love to see WDW and ride the various rides, but alas, not allowed.

We will be going through separation anxiety in about 72 days :sad2: .

Oh def.... I am upset b/c we are leaving our Bichon in the Disney Kennel... I will cry.. I wish Disney would make a pet Friendly hotel.. Wouldnt that be great for us pet lovers :surfweb:
