Squee!
Just a few more days..a little over a week. We don't have to wait 25643 minutes. We don't have to measure, measure a year. :cool1:

TOV

I never had the urge to see the play, but the commercials for the movie are stirring up my interest. This might be one I actually go see and not wait until it comes to video.

I saw the play twice, know that soundtrack by heart. . . . . I'm seeing the movie opening night. I'm sooo over the top excited about it!

:Pinkbounc  :cheer2: :cool1: :bounce:

 "Measure your life with LOVE! "

BTW, who's your favorite? I don't think I can pick. I love Mark. and Angel of course. and Maureen. Do you have a favorite?

I saw the play once, when it came to Dallas. And I'm probably going to go see the movie during the 2 week period when I am off from school for Christmas break.

w00!
You measure it in sunlights and midnights..how do you measure, measure a year?

We should start a RENT fan thread. :cheer2:

TOV

Just so you know, the Rent fans in NYC generally refer to themselves as "Rentheads"...Just thought I'd tip you to that, in case you wanted to use it for the "fan" thread.

La Vie Boheme !!!

I am soooo excited for the movie!! Although I would love it more if the show came back to my area.

My favorite character is Mimi. That would be my dream role in a show, because she is so opposite from me.

I posted this on the RENT thread that was started yesterday. I was able to get free advance screening tickets through www.glamour.com/reelmoments . They are available for several cities (including Dallas, TOV).

As a Renthead from as early as 1996 (seen it more times than I can count), I am so excited for this film.

No day but today!

I can't wait! But I'm interested to see how they turn a pretty much R rated musical into a PG 13 movie. Should be intersting.

DD's been playing the soundtrack nonstop and tells me each day how many days till the movie opens.

I'm not that excited but she's THRILLED.

DH and I saw it in NY several years back. I really liked it. He asked at intermission if we could go back to the hotel  . So, I don't think we'll be seeing the movie together !

I love the soundtrack, but it seems that there is less singing in the movie. There's so many conversations that are sung in the play, that I don't see how they can pull that off in the movie. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I read an interview by Chris Columbus in which he said the movie is pretty much sung through. Apparently there's only about 15-20 minutes of actual dialogue.

They don't seem to have Rent anymore for screenings. :(

About the rating, I read that they didn't cut anything and even the producers & cast were shocked by the PG-13. I would definitley see the film before deciding if your kids should see it or not.

I'm a total Renthead, and my kids love the music. (they listen to it with me in the car with my finger on the fast forward button) But it is very much adult subject matter and the PG-13 is really pushing it.

I am looking forward to it. My sister and I saw it on Broadway a year ago next week so we think it would be fun to see the movie the same week a year later.
:)

Btw, side note, if it is at all like the musical, it is not for children imho.

I saw the stage version (not on Broadway) and I really liked it. I am looking forward to seeing how it translates into a movie. Since it is basically the original Broadway cast, I doubt they have cut out much (if any) of the musical numbers.

I agree with the Previous Poster. This show is about very adult subject matter. I think the PG-13 rating is pushing it because it is definitely not for someone younger than 13.

"Contact" was removed, which I think would have certainly pushed the movie into the R category. A few others were cut as well, including "Life Support" and "New Year's Eve".
