Who else is a Substitute Teacher?

No call this morning. I am relieved. I hate it when I get a call but am not sure if I can/want to go in. I feel bad turning down the work but sometimes you have to say no.

I am recovering from a terrible asthma flare this weekend and won't be 100% for a day or two. I did a lot of decluttering by sitting around and sorting through stuff so I kind of want to finish that up today.

I am reading the ideas for discipline/incentives for middle school and taking notes. I have signed up to sub at DD's middle school but am nervous about the classroom control. With the elementary ones I can always offer extra recess or take some away, or game time in the room or other things from my bag of tricks. But they are not appropriate for middle school. DD told me to just get a big bag of candy and pass it out to the ones that behave!

The kids at this school are overall very well behaved and the administration is very supportive. No kid wants to be sent to the office! I haven't been called yet so I know I just need to have a few successful days to feel comfortable with this age group.

I'm with you on that one. Sometimes my fingers are crossed that I don't get a phone call so that I don't have to feel guilty about turning it down.

I started subbing for Pre-K this year. There are only 8 pre-k teachers at my dd's school, but they only have 3 subs. I have been getting called once or twice a week. Each class has to have 2 teachers (regulary teacher and an assistant), so it is never just me trying to figure out what to do with the kids.

I want to sign up to sub at my ds's elementary school, but they require you to take a class. They have a sign up for the class every 2-3 months and they take 100 people in the class. There was a signup in July. I logged in an hour after sign up time and it was full. My friend told me I had to get on right at sign up time or I would not get in. So today was the next sign up, which began at 8:30. I was subbing and got to the computer as soon as I could. It was 8:36 and the class was already full. :sad1: Hopefully I'll get in the next time.
