This morning my DD said that she didn't feel good. I took her temp and all was normal. She didn't even seem ill or look it. I just thought that she wanted to stay home from school. Well, the school called me this afternoon. Apparently after lunch she started getting sick frequently. I went and picked her up and as soon as I got there, she got sick again. She doesn't look very good either. I feel horrible now. I thought she was faking it. :( Of course she had to say, "I told you I didn't feel good this morning." My poor baby. :(

I think guilt and motherhood are cross referenced in the dictionary, aren't they? Sorry your little girl is sick! Nothing is worse than that! Hopefully it is a short-lived bug! Take care of yourself!

I don't think there is a parent alive who has misjudged how sick their kid really is. I know I have. Try not to beat yourself up over it.

Hope your DD feels better soon.

I wouldn't feel bad, many times children say they don't feel good, when in fact, they are just looking for a day off... the good part, is that since your DD was in school for the morning, it doesn't count as an absentee day... Unless the children have a fever or are throwing up, I usually send them & tell them to try & make it through the day... I've gotten a few calls from the nurse, but not very many!

Been there... doesn't make ya feel too good, but you're certainly not alone in that. With young children it's difficult to judge a lot of times.

Don't be so hard on yourself; you did all of the things most mothers would have done before they made the decision to send their child to school.

I agree with I_Know_You2! - Being a mother and living with perpetual guilt seem to go hand in hand!!

I hope your little one feels better soon.

Oh yes I've been there and done that!

Its so hard to really know just how bad they feel. Don't beat yourself up, its something I think everyone has done as parents.

Hope your dd feels much better really soon!

I've done it before, and I'm sure I'll do it again.

Hope your daughter feels better soon!

Yes it has happened to me too. I don't keep my child home unless I know that they have been sick to thier tummy, or have a fever. I know I tried getting out of days of school faking it!;)
Sorry your daughter is sick. Hope she gets better soon!

Sorry your daughter is sick.

That was how my dad lost his appendix!

dont feel bad. we all have done this. It's tough to make a judgement call. Just remember there will be times when she's a teen that she gets over on you. You will let her stay home when she isn't really sick because you will remember this moment and think... what if.

I know I have done it and probably will do it again.

Hope she is feeling better soon.:sunny:

We've all done it. Last time my son told me he didn't feel well, he throw up all over my van on the way to school.:o

Some here may know that I have told my DD that she was LYING about a dull tummy ache until she was in acute pain and said, "Mom, please take me to a hospital, I am NOT faking" I said, just try to lay down while I call the doctor to see how to proceed. (We had been to the doc earlier that evening and they sent her home saying it must be a bug.) She limped out five minutes later beging me to take her so I did...

She needed her Appendix out... It had perforated and was causing the pain to be more acute. She had to stayin the hospital for a week in horrible pain. I lost mother of the year forever on that one! Needless to say, I will get a cat scan for my DS if he looks like he has a tummy ache and when she says she is sick, I think alot harder about if I think she is really telling the truth!

You are human, don't be so hard on yourself, I am proof positive that there are worse mothers out there!

My DD's pedi had a day off. His son was complaining of a tummy ache. He told his son to go to school. He just "knew" that his son was faking because the night before his sone was complaining that he never gets to see him due to his job.

The school called one hour later saying that his son had been throwing up since he got there.

He told me that he felt really bad about that. "I'm a DR! I should have known!" But he is also a parent, like the rest of us.

We all make mistakes. Have a bite of chocolate, and all will look better.

Yes you are a Mom, but you are also human! I have done the same thing you did, don't worry, you didn't scar them for life! They will be fine, probably better than fine because you feel so bad about this morning you will take even better care now!

Been there. Last year DS (1st grade then) woke up saying his throat hurt. No fever, I said, eat some breakfast, drink something, brush your teeth, it's just one of those scratchy throats that you sometimes get in the morning - will go away shortly. Sent him to school. When he got home, he said "Mommy, my throat still hurts really bad, so bad that I almost cried at school." Crying in front of friends is something he doesn't do unless he's really hurt. I took him to the Dr. he cried in the waiting room. The nurse swabbed his throat & sent that to the lab. Dr. came in, looked in his throat & said "I don't need to see the results, he has strep throat" then looked in his ears & said "both ears are extremely infected." I felt so bad, I sent him to school with a double ear infection & strep throat. The Dr. said that it probably was very painful due to the pressure & swelling of his ears & throat pressing on each other. Yep, I felt pretty bad.

I have also done that as well, with my son. I hope your DD feels better soon, there is nothing worse then a sick child! :(

I've been on the other end of this. When I was in 7th grade, I told my father I was sick. He didn't believe me, got mad because he thought I ws trying to pull a fast one since Mom was away and made me go to school. Sure enough, 1st period Art class, I threw up all over the place. He was so apologetic after picking me up!

Now, many years later (I'm not saying how many!) I still give him a hard time about it! Of course, it's all in fun now!

Don't feel bad, at the very least you can laugh about it later! :)

Don't worry about it! I was such a whiney kid who HATED to get up in the morning - even when I was little - that my mom never knew if I was sick or not. She always says she just sent me to school anyway (unless I had gotten sick or really had a fever) and then waited for someone from the school to call if I really was sick!:p She said she never knew if "but I really don't feel good" really meant that or "I really don't want to get up today." She is wishing a daughter just like me on me in the future!:teeth:
