We put our Christmas tree up last night. After seven years, I accidentally dropped my "First trip to Disney World " ornament. It scattered all over.😩 I'm so bummed. I know it's just an ornament, and I have the memories. But now I'm afraid of hanging my VERY delicate Haunted Mansion (the talking head lady) ornament, lol. I told my DH and kids it looks nice on the entertainment center. I've been to DL many times, WDW once. I guess this means I have to go back there and buy another one. I'm OK with that. Crossing my fingers 2026 will be when it happens. So, tell me about ornaments you've broken.

I seem to have broken off antlers on 2 different things. Luckily my husband can’t fix them if I have the pieces.

Every year there is on bulb broken in the box.

He is always there with the super glue when I break anything even though sometimes I really want to throw it away…lol

My ornaments are more prone to breakage since we moved 5 years ago. Our old house had a carpeted living room, so dropping an ornament didn't usually result in disaster. Our new house has hardwood floors throughout, so a dropped or fallen ornament is more likely to get damaged. I have a soft tree skirt that goes under the tree, but the ornaments sometimes have a mind of their own and fall beyond the skirt. It doesn't happen often and nothing has totally shattered, but I do have a bunny ornament that's missing ears!

and way back we had a house of cats. ;)

for about a dozen years dh would gift me with some kind of lovely but fragile ornament each Christmas. one year the kids finally noticed that none ever made it to the tree but were displayed on metal holders in my china hutch. they said 'mom, why don't the pretty glass ones get put on the tree' and I simply pointed to the cats who were under the tree crunching on stolen tree candy canes.

candy cane theft, plush ornament theft, bow theft....we decorate/they redecorate.

I have always had cats. I’ve never had kittens. During Covid I lost my cat and adopted a bonded brother and sister who were 4 months old. I had no idea. We lost a lot of ornaments that day. The tree went up and came back down that same day 😂 The cats are now 3 but I only hang non breakable ornaments. I hope to one day hang what remains of my nice ornaments.

I have lost a number of ornaments over the years.
Trees that haven fallen over, cats that have gotten tangles in light strands, and DH just dropping them

None of the ones I have broken have been very special (or expensive) thankfully. I use a lot of plastic ones that the worst thing is arms or something getting broken off, or the character coming off a board or something.

I learned a long time ago that shatterproof stuff is the way to go.

Last year as I was taking down the angel tree topper, she slipped from my hand and fell on the floor. Her porcelain face shattered, we had her topping our tree for 20 years so I was so bummed. I ended up buying a lighted star instead at the end of Christmas clearance once I broke it. I totally forgot I broke the angel until we were putting up the tree the other day and went to pull out the box she was kept in.

The stuff I use to create the look of my decor is mostly unbreakable (lights, plastic stuff and silk poinsettias). My most precious pieces are things DS crafted in his younger years and they’re pretty sturdy. There really isn’t much to break so I’ve never lost anything I really love.

Too many to count and some really were irreplaceable. I know I dropped a glass hand blown sea horse we got in Saba while diving. We will never get back there. I dropped a wooden ornament my Daddy carved and painted, it was a small nutcracker, broke his staff he was holding clean off and the staff itself broke in about 5 pieces. Daddy has been dead a number of years so that can't be replaced. I dropped a Lenox Tinkerbell my Mama gave me, again can't be replaced. There are a number of Disney glass ones I've broken but I go to Disney at least 3 times a year so while those particular ones can't be replaced, I can always get another one. I have a bad habit of unpacking all mine and putting them on the floor so I can see what I have and figure out where to put them on the tree and I'm a tad clumsy. I know the dog has picked up one or two over the years and tried to carry them off but I've caught her in time.

After 50 Christmases we've lost a number of ornaments, we usually break one or two every year in the process of decorating the tree. We have so many ornaments they won't all fit on the tree so mourning over broken pieces doesn't last long. The amazing thing is that we've moved cross country a couple of times and it's remarkable how many ornaments have survived.

Some nice ones were broken over the years, especially heirloom handed down. When the kids were young and we had a cat we started buying less delicate ornaments lol. I think owning a cat will change how anyone does Christmas 😸
