Who else bought OKW for the low points?

Heck, we bought BWV for the low point cost units: the Std View low point units. From our perspective, we almost always reserve in the 9-11 month range and are now hooked on the low points std view units. I keep meaning to try OKW and SSR (we have stayed at VWL and BCV already) but BWV's low points std vies keep pulling us back.

We bought at VWL for the theming, Bay Lake, and it's close to the Magic Kingdom. We bought at BCV for the location and we LOVE the theme - plus I like the Yacht and Beach Hotels. And we bought at BWV because of the location and standard view points structure. Plus, our family loves that these DVC's are attached to Walt Disney World hotels. All of the services of a hotel, plus we also get the extra room of DVC.

I would like to have some points at OKW because I love how it feels like Florida -tropical, flowers everywhere, and I adore the porches and pastels of the place. It feels like a quaint neighborhood. And you can't beat the one and two bedrooms on how much room they provide - big and roomy. And you're right - the point structure is great. I would LOVE to have points at OKW, too. So far in late April and early May we've been able to book OKW at the 7-month-window, hopefully that doesn't change for us.

Good Luck with your purchase.

There is no reason to own OKW points because the have a "lower" point use IMO. All DVC owners get to use OKW for the lower point use. We just stayed there 1 month ago because once again it was the only DVC available for our spring break 3 months out. OKW has always had rooms available when we have called so why own there-unless you require a GV-which I totally could see someone wanting-just not us.

I agree totally. There is no reason to buy OKW. Availability is almost always there. I'd rather own a small sought after property than a large property like OKW. I got a ressie at OKW once on about 70 days notice. Buying because you love the resort is one thing but buying for the lower point totals seems silly. :confused3 OKW is seldom if ever booked solid.

We bought at OKW because it is where we wanted to stay, and the fact that points are lower was a nice perk. When we purchased, it was just OKW and BWV. We didn't care for BWV at all, but we loved OKW decor, location and style. We have not regretted it one minute!

What is the reason(s) for the OKW being so much cheaper than all the others? It seems you can stay in a Grand Villa for not much more points than a two bedroom place in any other resort. There must be a reason.

The reason is that it doesn't offer as much in the way of features and services as other Resorts. Until very recently it didn't even have a waterslide. No room service and no spa. It also has a lot to do with the fact that it was the original DVC Resort. DVC has wised up and upped the points and made the rooms smaller. Guess what...... it hasn't hurt sales either. Someone at DVC knows what they are doing.

I had no luck getting rooms at OKW during the months of Oct/Nov/Dec on 3 different occasions during the past 5 years at 3-4 months out. So I do believe there are definitely some difficulties finding availability at this resort at some busy times. During the summer months, the only resort I've had trouble getting into was VWL. But I've had success with 60 days out or less at all other DVC resorts. I got BWV at 50 days out in July one year and I could have had BCV as well.
We bought OKW based simply on the fact that we loved it, and should one day DVC mandate that one can only stay at their "home" resort or perhaps reduce the booking window for stays outside of one's "home" resort, we wanted to be where we were most happy. There's nothing to say this will ever happen, but we wanted to make sure we were where we'd be most happy and that is at OKW

I bought OKW because it was the lowest per-point price on the resale market of any WDW DVC properties, and also had the lowest dues -- not because of the slightly lower per-night cost. I figured the lower points per night were good, but if I didn't like the resort, I could stay elsewhere.

Now we stay at OKW because we love the place, not because the points are lower. We will probably try other resorts -- and I'm still looking for that elusive DVC resort I don't like -- but OKW will be our "Home" in more ways than one, I think.
