Who Does This Speak To…..

Studios and Springs had a much different vibe in those days. Studios was more like "You love movies, let us show you how they're made" and Springs just wasn't so...I dunno...corporate? One can argue whether either is better, but they are now very different.
I agree 200% ::yes::

When I was in High School I drove a delivery truck.
Delivering and driving across the MGM back lot was an amazing experience every time.

The trains, the HUGE Paddle-wheeler at the dock all the historic homes and estate and business and western sets.

All gone now, may as well erase it at Disney Properties as well.
But we still have those excellent movies.

I have been going to Disney Hollywood Studio's since it opened. I called it Disney MGM for as long as it was Disney MGM. Once it changed I called it by it's new name or DHS. I called EPCOT Center by that name until they changed it to Epcot. Then it was Epcot until they changed it to EPCOT. However you say it the same and if you didn't you would have to spell it out like E-P-C-O-T.

My point is what is so difficult in accepting change. If Mr. Smith marries your friend Ms. Jones and she changes her name to match his, you don't continue to call her Ms. Jones do you. Hanging on to the older names at at theme park doesn't change the experience you had in the past or the ones you are experiencing in the present.

How many, I wonder are going to continue to call Tiana's Adventure, Splash Mountain even though that location isn't Splash Mtn. any more in name or experience. Not anymore than Laugh Floor Comedy Club is still The Timekeeper.

I kinda feel this too. I mean, I can get taking a little time to get used to it and slipping up, but I don't get the outright resistance to using the new name, once it is known.

I've been on the DIS so long that I will literally talk in acronyms. You could very easily hear me say, "I'm going to hit JC and POTC at RD, then do HM before my LL for 7DMT and ADR at BOG!" 🤣

I still occasionally slip and call it MGM, but not as often. We still call the stadium the Miami Dolphins play at by its original name Joe Robbie Stadium, its had way too many name changes throughout the years and to all the locals it will always be Joe Robbie. The Panther's arena at one point was called the National Car Rental Center, so that confused a ton of people.

My first visit to what I still call “The Studios” was in 1993. Was it MGM then? And if so when did the name change. My second visit was 1998.
2008

in fact our first trip was February of 2008 when they were doing the changeover. the maps had one name and the road signs had another and we got so lost that we had to pull up at a gatehouse and ask for directions

ME! :rotfl:

Who else?
Come on….admit it :lmao:

I think of MGM as the park it used to be, with all of the movie memorabilia and attractions like the Backlot Tour. then it was my husband's favourite park.

now it's DHS and there is nothing original about it....it's just repeating the same stories from the Disney movies. so we mostly skip it and go to Universal instead because they basically the same thing as MGM

Well, I think it's pretty fair to say that Universal has changed too. In fact, they started doing that before DHS did.

I have no problem calling it Hollywood Studios. My 34 yo DD does though.

I'm going to call the front park of Epcot Future World for the rest of my life. I genuinely don't care what the new names are now.
I don't even know what the new name is! I never really referred to future World before by name.

It is actually broken up into three - World Celebration (Spaceship Earth, central hub, Imangination), World Discovery (Test Track, Mission: SPACE, GOTG) and World Nature (The Land, The Seas, Moana) - those plus World Showcase = Epcot.

Doesn't matter to me. That's Future World 😁

The only way Disney will get me to accept the name changes is if they'll bring the Innoventions music loop back. Heck, I'll even excuse the airport terminal they built that they refer to as Communicore Hall.

When we went to MGM DHS in June, the CM who was greeting everyone in the arrival courtyard (a man who I think was probably working there as his "job in retirement") was loudly saying "Good morning and welcome to Disney MGM Studios!" I smiled and gave him a thumbs up. :)
