We just got back from DL. I NEVER do Space Mountain because it is a dark coaster ride. On this trip my husband rode alone, as usual, and came off it to tell me that the new temporary music change (Red Hot Chili Peppers) has also included more lighting inside so you can see the tracks better etc. I was convinced to ride...the first time in 20 years! It was awesome! I could see where we were going and the music is in sync with the ride! It is only supposed to be this way until April 26th. Who can I contact to persuade them to keep it this way? Why would they only do it temporarily? It has only been this way for a couple of months? Any info greatly appreciated, Marilyn:thumbsup2

Hi Marilyn! Glad you enjoyed your first ride on Space Mountain! My son loves the overlay as well. Unfortunately, both you and my son are in the minority here. DLR has been taking comments from people since the Rockin Both Parks promotion started (January 3rd), and the majority of people do not like the RCP overlay.

From what I have read on other boards (Miceage, Mouseplanet, etc.), most people are VERY excited for the overlay to be taken down and for Space Mountain to return to its original music and theming.

I wish I had read/heard that the lighting was better, cause I would have ridden it then, I can't do it because it's too dark and makes me nauseous. No one likes hurling through space... literally!

Yep, everyone who went on it my last trip hated it with a passion. They want it back the way it was.

The music is not my style and it is VERY loud for me... I don't like the newer ride and can't wait until it is returned to the 'rea' Space Mountain

Since I won't be going until after this promotion has ended and I really like RHCP may I ask what songs, if anyone knows, are played on each ride. I'll listen to my iPod and pretend I didn't miss it LOL.

Most, but i cant really tell Sarcastic on the internet :\

like there was a BIG thread about why CM shouldnt wear sunglasses because its bad show :P

But anyhow, you should just put on the red hot chili pepper song on your mp3s and bring a flashlight. there, your set :P

I have never been to DL, but ridden SM at the MK a zillion times - the majority of the effect is that it is dark (It is supposed to be a ride though space). I would be sad/upset if they kept it this way. . . it just wouldn't be SPACE Mountain. . . . that is my opinion though. Glad you were able to enjoy it after so many years!

The songs are "Higher Ground" for Space Mountain, and "Around The World" for California Screamin'. But they are remixes of sort. I have them so PM me.

I liked the music with the ride but I hated the fact that you could see the whole track. Takes away from the best thing about space mountain it being in the dark. I can't wait for it to go back!

I was a CP at WDW and they threw us a Tommorrowland after hours party where they let us ride SM with all of the lights on. It was awesome! Lets just say I will never fully raise my arms on that ride.

:cool1: I loved the "new" space mountain! It rocked! I can't wait to go on it again in a week! Woo Hoo!
I'm really super suprised that people didn't like the "new" ride!

What was the original music on SM? I have ridden the one in WDW many times and I don't remember any music. :confused3

I don't think there was, least I can't remember any from when I went on it in 98.

Never again. I hate it when people trick me to go on coaster rides...space mountain is fun, you'll like it....oh no it's the matterhorn it's not that bad.

Grrr

Do you mean the music that the Red Hot Chili Peppers have temporarily replaced?

It was added during the pre-50th refurb and was composed by Michael Giacchino. It's great: ethereal, majestic, propulsive and dynamic. Has some of the feel of the old Star Trek theme to me.

You can hear it (and see a CG recreation of the non-Rockin' version of the ride) at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZVyOgp9mns

Prior to the Giacchino soundtrack, the Disneyland SM featured Dick Dale doing a surf guitar version of Saint-Saens "Aquarium" from The Carnival of the Animals.
