You probably won't like this reason, but here goes.
God has a plan and his wisdom is ineffable. Let me explain simply. I learned this from experience.
Our first child passed at 18 weeks in utero. DW actually had to deliver him. That was when we found out he was a boy. I mention this tragedy only to highlight what learned. I learned that an 18 mo. old fetus is indeed a child and I almost immediately changed from a pro-choicer to a pro-lifer. Holding you less-than-one-pound son will do that to some people.
Zachary's death also made it possib;e for us to have our first daughter. She was conceived beforse Zach was to even be born. His passing paved the way for the children we have now. Everything would be different if it weren't for Zach's passing.
Before Zachary, my spirituality wavered between a twisted Agnosticism or outright Atheism. My search for truth never treaded far from that crossroad. Our tragedy changed that. I began to see thins in a much different light. Not necessarily a brighter light, or a cleer light...just different. I started seeing order that I never had seen before. My frame of reference had shifted too. Today, I'm a Christian. So is DW. She always was, but had neglected her faith up until the last few years..
To say that Zach died so that we would be Saved oversimplifies the point, so please resist the urge. Our lives were totally changed by Zachary. Mostly in ways that can't be quantified or plotted on a graph. Back then, we couldn't understand. Today, we see God's wisdom from a distance and are awestruck at the complexity of it all and the distance we have travelled and the direction we have gone.
