I haven't purchased tickets in a long time, at least 20 years at TKTS. Just wondering do you get decent seats or always lousy ones? We are thinking of catching a Yankees game on Easter Sunday and maybe doing a show the next day. I would love to see Beauty and the Beast with Kristy Carlson Romano or whatever her name is.

I've bought tickets numerous times there and got good seats for all of them. I actually got 3rd row for Cats from there and 10th row for Stomp (which I HATED).

It's been quite a number of years since I've used them, but I don't recall the seats ever being that bad. As I remember, if seats were available, you had the option of purchasing seats in different sections (orchestra, loge, and so forth) at half the ticket's original price.

The last time I checked into buying tickets there (didn't wind up doing it, though), I found that you could buy tickets for the day BEFORE at the downtown TKTS location only. In Duffy Square, you could buy tickets only for the same day.

Not sure if a downtown TKTS booth still exists though. It was in the World Trade Center. :(

Yes they moved the downtown location. Great, I think we'll try it, thanks. I remember the salespeople not being too helpful, it was like WADDAYAWANT, and don't ask no questions you stupid tourist!! And watch out if you tried to pay with your CC!

I have always had great luck with them... and you can't beat the price!

Each time I have used them, I always ask to see the seating chart and find out where those seats are before purchasing. They are usually very friendly and helpful =)

10th row for Fiddler on the Roof last month :)

I've lucked out with seats there many times before. Great deals, considering most shows can go up to 100 bucks now.

If you don't want t stand in the TKTS line try this.......

www.HitShowClub.com

It is a great website that offers discounts on a lot of shows and I think they still have a BATB discount up and running.

Good Luck!

Linda

One thing I want to note. It looks like you want to see a show on a Monday. That is the day that most Broadway shows are dark. So, the selection of shows will be very slim for Mondays.

Actually we are thinking of Easter Sunday. But thanks for the tip on Monday.

I used to buy tickets from them all the time. I haven't for years, though. I always got great seats. I remember seeing "The Tap Dance Kid" in the 10th row center.

I'm taking my parents to see Beauty & the Beast on Sat. I just knew that as soon as I bought the tickets, they'd have a special. You can get $55 seats for select performances. Try going to disneyonbroadway.com. I think that's were I saw the special.

Have fun! I'm also seeing Mama Mia next month with my girlfriends!

I've had great experiences with tkts for smaller shows, where even the worst seats are great because the theaters are so tiny. The bigger ones I've tried were very cheap, but not such great seats. I saw Urinetown and Chicago for about $15 each, both from the ceiling. But it sounds like others have had luck.

About buying tickets the day before: sometimes that helps, sometimes not, since theaters release tickets at various times, sometimes only nearer to showtime. In any case, have several things in mind that you'd like to see so that standing in line isn't a waste in the end if your other choices are sold out.

Also, if you know what you want to see, you might try "rushing." Every theater does this differently. Some only do student rush, but some do general or lottery. Check with the theater to see how it works and what time they open. These are usually very, very good seats for around $25 or so.

the TKTS booth downtown is at the South Street Seaport now.

you can only get MATINEE tickets the day before the performance downtown.

I got great seats for Gypsy last summer.

remember you have to be flexible and you'' do fine.

and they don't take credit cards, so be prepared to pay with cash.

Could you explain a little more about rushing. My friend says somtimes the box office window has Director seats and you just walk up and ask right before showtime. Is that the same thing?

the "house seats" or "director's seats" are usually very good seats. don't count on their availability, though. if the director isn't using them, members of the staff have first choice. when I saw "Phantom" many years ago I sat in the house seats -- a friend of mine worked for Cmaeron MacIntosh at the time. I had to pay full price for the tickets -- my firend wasn't in a positiion to ive them to us for free -- but the seats were remarkable.
