Who are your favourite bands and why?

Asia
Keane
Snow Patrol
Vertical Horizon
Def Leppard

There are other bands I like, but these 5 I will see live as often as I reasonably can.

Let's see where to start??? I truly am a musicologist..I love all types of music, music is a huge part of my life....I can go from Tool, Alice in Chains and Slayer to Barry Manilow, The Beach Boys, and Marty Robbins..depending on what kind of mood I'm in. I love it all! My musical tastes cover all. That being said, no matter what band was "my band" of the moment...Kiss, Metallica, The Doors etc... There's always been only 1 band that's been a constant for me...IMO they are sooooo far ahead of all other bands, they should have their own category, it's not fair to compare regular bands to musical gods! It's been 40 yrs. since their last album, their music is fresh as ever...The Beatles are music, they are my favorite band and will always be! BTW I saw Paul Mccartney at Citifield last summer and at 67yrs. old, he rocks harder than bands half his age...He was so great and sounded awesome and played 20+ Beatles songs! If you're a fan a definite must see if you can catch him!!! Thank you John, Paul, George and Ringo! :music::rockband:

i like a LOT of music, but i guess my main favorites would be:

Maroon 5
Tool
Queen

all three of them have a very distinct sound, you know it's them when you're hearing them, i think that's why i like them all so much.

Vampire Weekend --- all their songs are upbeat!

My wife is obsessed with Vampire Weekend. She listened to the first album everyday until Contra came out. Now that is everyday. If you search for songs on google you can find a couple great cover songs they do. :thumbsup2

My top 10 and why...

1. Pink Floyd - There has not been and will not be another band with this sound. It's Rock Chamber Music. Their music has been covered by others, and adapted by orchestras, but the original recordings by the band still stands on it's own as the defining version every time.
2. Peter Gabriel - The most original solo artist of the past 30 years IMO. Career has explored Rock Opera, World Music, Acid Rock, Orchestra based, and a vocal style all his own.
3. Led Zeppelin - Who else has so perfectly married Blues and Rock together?
4. Grateful Dead - The antithesis of perfect fusion of multiple musical styles, followed closely by....
5. The Dave Matthews Band - ...another successful fusion of different styles of music.
6. Silversun Pickups - Best new band of the past 5 years and if they can keep it up, they'll bump Smashing Pumpkins as best alternative band ever.
7. U2 - Great music with an important message to back it up. Defined my high school generation.
8. AC/DC - The best band ever to produce 35 years of 3 chord songs that sound almost identical from one album to the next, but never get tiring.
9a. Van Halen (pre-Hagar) - The second best band to product non-boring 3 chord songs.
9b. Van Halen (Hagar era) - A great evolution of a great rock band, and never get's boring for me.
10. The Alan Parsons Project - An amazing story in music history. A band completely made up of low paid studio musicians, hence the "Project". Listen to the remixed version of "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" sometime, and you'll hear one of the finest concept albums ever made, and the narration by Orson Welles just makes it that much better. The most underrated band of the 70's/80's IMO.

Sorry for the edit, but honorable mention goes to...

11. Pearl Jam - From the ashes of Mother Love Bone came a band that was angry, powerful, and important, and still commands respect today even though the days of the "Grunge" movement are over.

Well I love a lot of bands - to the point that it's humorous. I can't go too long without catching someone in concert! My #1 is Bon Jovi (and I had the pleasure of seeing them from the 3rd row last week. Just had to say :cool1:). If I had to say why, it would be for sentimental reasons. I have been listening since I'm 16 and lots of memories there. Also, there is such an underlying positive message in the songs. Up until the most recent album (no comment), they had a real knack for clever lyricism, too. That seems to be dwindling.

Others:
Paolo Nutini
Carbon Leaf
Elton John
Davy Knowles
Cage The Elephant
Jet
Jackson Browne
.....

Journey-- has been my favorite since 1981
Def Lepard
Bon Jovi
Sister Hazel

What a fun thread!

Queen
The Spice Girls (don't laugh!)
Dave Matthews Band
Phil Collins
She and Him (Zooey Deschanel's (from 500 Days of Summer) band)
The Gypsy Kings

These are my favorite bands but I have quite a few individual singers that I love!

1.Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows, the music is just so beautifully written with the use of woodwind and string instruments and Anna-Varney's ever changing from male to female to a perfect middle style.
2.Schwarz Stein, Kaya's voice and Hora's music were a great combination...one hell of a duo.
3.Ayria, Jennifer is a great singer and songwriter and her ability to write hard edge songs and very emotional filled ones are amazing....and she is one of the nicest people I've ever had the chance to meet.
4.Meat Loaf, I grew up with Meat Loaf through my nan and he was the first concert I went to.

Foo Fighters top the list. There are seriously maybe 5 songs I can't stand out of their entire repetoire.

Barenaked Ladies. Going to see them for the first time in Tampa on June 26 when I'm in FL for the month. I've heard so many wonderful things about them live that I'm not sure I can wait that long!

Them Crooked Vultures. Their music melts my face. That's all I really need to say about that. :)

Sunny Day Real Estate. Nate Mendel being Nate Mendel. Mmmmmm.

Duran Duran. Ah, nostalgia.

Queens of the Stone Age, Gravity Kills, Stabbing Westward. Good music for a specific frame of mind.
